In the past transgender people in this country had a very small number of choices: they could move to big, cosmopolitan cities like New York or San Francisco, where they MIGHT be able to gain a certain level of acceptance. They could hide who they were, congregating in private, free to be their real selves only in the shadows and in secret, knowing that if they were ever discovered they would be ostracized by family and friends. They could shun their sexuality and attempt to live out a false existence. Or they could kill themselves. All too often the last path was the one chosen. Today we have a much greater level of acceptance. Conservatives hate it, as seen in this forum 7 days a week. But it’s much preferable to our dark and bigoted past.

He has also wished for my daughters to be raped. And I am not the only one he has wished this upon. There are people here whom I disagree with more, but I can’t think of anyone I have a lower opinion of.

Putting aside everything else wrong with this post, if I am the most progressive person on this board, progressives have a real problem. In 2008 I didn’t vote for President. I was an early fan of John McCain but I couldn’t support his VP choice. In 2012 I voted for Mitt Romney because I liked his economic policies (still do.)

Look I rarely agree with @Voltaire but he’s right. A whole lot of people knew and hung out with Epstein, Trump among them. The rules for this debate have designed to show us who is more mentally alert, more competent, more knowledgeable, and most important who has better ideas for leading the country. I think many of you realize that Joe Biden is going to prove superior in every one of these categories and that is why we are already hearing excuses. When the debate is over expect to hear from Trump and his supporters that it was all fixed just like the trial.

You may still be right. Trump should be terrified of an actual debate because he’s going to get demolished in real time. He may still find an excuse not to do it.

I have to add that I’m starting to question the accuracy of a lot of these polls. No I’m not a useful idiot like @supermike80. But the method of calling landline phones, which still appears to be prevalent in 2024, is leading to results that are unreliable IMO. Particularly with regard young people and African-Americans.

One wonders how they could have considered voting FOR Trump before his conviction, and why it’s only 21%. But whatever; if that number holds, Trump will lose. Bad news in that all too many people believe the lies Trump and his allies have spread that this is an illegitimate result. There is long term damage being done to our justice system from these constant attacks.
