Timmy’s thread for general discussion
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
@Nomad99 in response to your earlier post, obviously we’re going to disagree whether or not Joe Biden has been a good or bad President because we disagree on policy issues. Truth be told I think he’s been good in some ways, mediocre in others, awful in a few ways. If a “normal” Republican were running against him (for example Nikki Haley) I wouldn’t be sad to see him leave after one term. I might even vote for her. We haven’t had a Reaganite conservative in office since 2008 and I wouldn’t mind seeing one again, no matter how many issues I might disagree on. The problem is Trump. The Republicans are offering an untenable alternative. I have stated why numerous times. It is not simply a matter of policy (though in Trump’s case his stated policy, including abandonment of Ukraine and NATO, represents a catastrophe in real time to this country IMO). It is also that he will govern this time around without the guardrails. And he really does want an authoritarian regime. -

I think you’re really overstating the case here. As I’ve written many times before, it’s typical that real estate developers will overstate property values to lenders. But usually not by the incredible amounts that Trump did. That should be illegal. What the punishment should be I don’t know. Whether or not Trump, in this one instance, was unfairly prosecuted I don’t know. Which is why I wrote I’m not sure yet. I will add this: on my industry I’ve heard now for 20 years or longer that Donald Trump was an unscrupulous, crooked businessman who never paid his bills, cheated people out of a lot of money, and belonged in jail. I heard that long before he ever went into politics. -

Moving on from my detractors…. Latest polling on immigration and the border issue is very bad for Joe Biden. The message that a majority of Americans seem to agree with: 1. Joe Biden has been a disaster at the border. 2. We need to get tough, including a border wall and deportation. 3. Donald Trump is tough on this issue and knows what to do. No surprise: I don’t agree with any of this. But what I think doesn’t matter. The public seems to think it (according to Monmouth a large majority). And if that remains the case Biden is in deep trouble. -

Feel free to keep posting in this thread. You make yourself look ridiculous every time you do, but it’s entertaining. On a serious note are you ever in California? The OC Pride parade has been moved to October at the Orange County Fairgrounds. I’m going; you ought to come. It might give you a different perspective about what a loving community this is that you spend so much time badmouthing. But don’t bring any weapons. -

What’s funny is I actually agree with your point. It just doesn’t apply to me. -

Yeah no. The folks trying to remove Trump from the ballot honestly think they have a case to make with the 14th Amendment. I disagree but it’s not an open and shut thing. And of course I’m concerned about what Trump might do. Guy loves autocrats. Says he wants to be one. Why wouldn’t I be concerned? -

As I wrote in the very first post, I will engage in serious discussion with those who do likewise, even those I strongly disagree with like @Strike and @supermike80. You’re a joke. I don’t take you seriously because everything you write is nonsense. Some of it is absurd nonsense and some of it is hateful, bigoted nonsense but it’s all nonsense. So I respond to you in kind. -

Yes. You are terrified of them. And I don’t believe your internet tough guy routine for a second. If undocumented people come towards you in a threatening manner (hint: they never will because they don’t give a crap about you) you’re hiding under your bed. Just like you do whenever you think some transgender is at your doorbell trying to convert you. -

So you are determined to believe that I am an extremist even when I tell you I am not. Ok. -

When did I write that? The Supreme Court has every right to do what they did; I’m just tremendously disappointed in their decision. I think it’s clearly political. -

So first off I’m not extreme left. My views on most issues, particularly economic, are quite moderate. Im completely opposed to socialists like AOC and Bernie. Let’s get that straight. Next my statement that half the country is under an evil spell was obvious hyperbole. Do I think most Trump supporters want a dictatorship? Of course not. Do I think they’re racist? Of course not. But they’re being fooled and they don’t see the threat before their eyes. And I think many of them look at our problems, are impatient or angry with liberals, and really would prefer a strong man type without thinking it through. (And what’s so ironic is that Trump has got to be the wimpiest strong man type ever.) -

Dude you’re the one deathly afraid that undocumented immigrants are going to come murder you in your sleep, or that transgenders are coming for your kids to groom them. So don’t accuse anyone else of paranoia. My concerns about Trump are perfectly reasonable. Unlike your childish, irrational fears. -

Sorry that you and so many other people are not paying attention. Let’s hope that by the time you do it’s not too late. Donald Trump is a great admirer of Vladimir Putin and Victor Orban and there is no question he would like to impose their sort of authoritarian regime if he is re-elected. He has very clearly stated this on numerous occasions. I haven’t worried too much about this because (a) I didn’t think he will win and (b) we have too many checks and balances in our system to allow that. Now I’m not so sure of either. After what happened on Jan 6 Trump should never be close to the Presidency again. Yet here we are. Half this nation seems to be under some kind of evil spell, and it’s not the half supporting Joe Biden. We are sliding towards disaster. -

Trump should not be removed from any ballots and the SC will decide this in his favor. I think we all know that. -

As I wrote I only fear it part of the time. But the concern is real. He doesn’t appear to have any respect whatsoever for our democratic institutions. And yet people want to vote for him anyhow. -

I love this country. I am honestly afraid that Donald Trump may want to impose a dictatorship if he wins, an end to our free system of government. Sometimes I tell myself I’m crazy for thinking this and sometimes I believe it to be true. I always figured that we had checks and balances that would prevent such a thing but I’m no longer sure. We appear to be stumbling into a very bad time ahead. -

The notion that Trump is immune to being charged for anything he did as President, even after he is President, is spurious and goes completely against the Constitution, and you know it. The SC could have decided this in 2 minutes. Instead they took weeks and now they are going to take further months. And they put a stay on the trial as well which they didn’t have to do. What purpose was there other than delay the trial? -

Donald Trump gets away with it again. By taking up his spurious claim of immunity, the Supreme Court has given him de facto immunity. There will not be a January 6 trial until after the election- and if Trump wins there will be no January 6 trial at all. There will also be no classified document trial before the election and no Georgia trial before the election. This means the only trial before the election will be the New York hush money case which is pretty meaningless. This is a game that Trump has played and won. There will be no repercussions for anything Trump has done- unless he loses the election- and maybe not even then. -

McConnell will attempt now to prevent a Trump type from taking his place. We’ll see how successful he is. If I had to guess he will fail. -

Trump hates McConnell, and vice versa- and yet McConnell is responsible for Trump’s most important accomplishments, including the makeup of the Supreme Court. And he is responsible for not convicting Trump after the second impeachment- that would have happened if not for Mitch. -

Mitch McConnell announcing that he is stepping down from leadership in November. Never a huge fan but there is no doubt that, historically, he will go down as one of the greatest senators in American history.
