Timmy’s thread for general discussion
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Hey guys gotta run for most of the day: I have a stupid wedding to attend in which I know absolutely nobody. I hate weddings and this one is Catholic so it’s probably going to go on and on endlessly. And the wife has told me she will kill me if I dare to even look at my phone. So any questions or responses I will try to answer tomorrow. Assuming I survive. -

That’s not going to ever happen because what you refer to in Europe is hardly a consensus opinion. But even if it does happen I’m not going to smile dopily and say my heart is in the right place. Because it isn’t. My head is in the right place, because everything I wrote was based on the strong consensus of the experts in this area that I trust, mostly doctors, psychiatrists, and the highly respected associations they are members of. When and if these folks change their minds about any aspects of this issue then I will too. I rely on them, just as I rely on them if I catch some disease, just as I rely on a pilot to fly a plane, and a climate scientist to tell me what’s happening with climate change, and a IT guy to tell me what to do when my computer breaks down. I am beholden to experts, as are you as is everyone. I see no reason to ignore them on this issue or any other. -

Well we’re talking about a variety of subjects. I certainly acknowledge that on issues like police brutality liberals, like conservatives, are going to hear what they want to hear, and there’s going to be suppression of facts contrary to that at times. You offered an example of that, and it’s something we should always take into account. But the problem with that example is that police mistreatment, especially against minorities, is a far more subjective issue than climate change or Covid vaccines. It’s not a question of science but of human behavior. Thus, history, personal experience, and emotion plays a much larger role. I don’t think it should be used even as a comparison. We can discuss the police, and should, but not in reference to rejection/acceptance of scientific fact. Thats why I chose not to respond to that aspect of your post. -

All of your posts on this issue have the same message: “transsexual people disgust me.” That’s the whole of your argument. I’m sorry they disgust you. But it’s your problem, not society’s. Deal with your own insecurity and stop trying to use it to restrict other people’s freedom. -

Trans is another issue where conservatives rely on fear and disgust. There have been transsexuals among us since time began. The difference now is that we have technology to help them (treatments, gender affirming surgery) and that parts of our society accept them better, so this makes the numbers appear larger especially among youths. The numbers are not larger, they are simply no longer hidden. It’s not a mental illness, the REJECTION by parts of our society creates depression and mental illness. The solution to depression and mental illness is to let these folks, including teenagers, do as they wish, including surgery, and accept them, treat them as they wish to be treated. If we as a society can do this the suicides will stop. These folks don’t hurt you, treat them with love and understanding and you’ll be surprised how much better your life becomes, seriously. -

There is some level of fraud and corruption in all human endeavors. No surprise to discover it. But using that fact as a reason to be skeptical of man made climate change (or the Covid vaccine for that matter) seems like quite the stretch. The truth is, with one notable exception, modern day conservatives reject scientific evidence they don’t like. It’s a sad truth of our current age, and it’s terribly frustrating and I just don’t get it. You don’t like the Covid vaccine because the government might force you to take it for public health safety? Too focking bad, facts are facts. You reject the truth of climate change because it might lead to restrictions on the oil industry? Too focking bad, facts are facts. Deal with reality, not what you want. The only notable exception I can think of is nuclear energy. On that issue the roles are reversed: it’s liberals who rely on fear and innuendo and conservatives who turn to science for the answers. Go figure. -

Yup. But the problem is, for all too many conservatives, doctors have become radical leftists too. Just like climate scientists. And responsible journalists. The modern definition of radical leftist, to conservatives, is anyone who tells them something they don’t prefer to hear. Conversely. Tucker Carlson and Jesse Waters are now the equal of medical doctors and climate scientists: they speak with just as much if not more expert authority and credibility. We live in a focked up world. I wish I knew how to fix it. -

I’m really not interested in watching these kind of videos. I don’t accept them as a reliable source of information, especially when, as I suspect in this case, they contradict the educated medical studies of authorities that I trust. What argument would you like to make regarding Covid vaccines? -

Taking a break from spreading hate filled lies about undocumented people? And just for me? I suppose I should be honored. -

I’ll accept the possibility that the new influx MAY represent new characteristics- we won’t know the answer to that for years to come. But I remain pretty skeptical that they come here for any kind of government benefits, and that any curtailing of those benefits will deter them. I firmly believe that the vast majority of undocumented immigrants come here for the same reason they always have: desire for a better life made possible by our economic opportunities and safety from violence, which is lacking in the places they come from. -

@BrahmaBulls‘ whole purpose for existing in this forum is to post dumb, insipid and crude attacks against liberals. 100% of his posts are moronic, but since that is apparently his goal you’d have to call him a great success. -

Not my claim, but stated by various agencies. I‘m not sure what difference it makes whether or not the folks come from Mexico or other Latin American countries, in terms of the cost-gain question. That doesn’t appear to me to be a relevant factor though perhaps I’m missing something. But I want to stress that in the short term undocumented immigrants cost us more than they benefit us, especially in the border states, especially now. That’s why I agree that the current situation is untenable. -

In another thread @Horseman is offering quotes on undocumented immigration from the Center for Immigration Studies, a white supremacy hate group posing as a think tank. They lie through their teeth about this issue, but they’re important to read because of their heavy influence on Donald Trump and his closest allies. @Horseman once again I invite you to debate me on this topic. I’m not afraid of your nonsense or lies, and I will force you to face certain truths that you’ve chosen to ignore in your attempt to spread your bigotry. But if you’re too afraid to discuss this issue with somebody who actually knows what they’re talking about, I can understand that. -

I have chosen to post only in this thread because it’s the only thread that has the possibility of serious discussion that I can engage in. Even that is only part of the time. A lot of trolls have managed to worm their way in here. Oh well. All are welcome to discuss the issues with me. But if you don’t want to, that’s fine too. -

You wrote “government controlling borders and keeping them open”. That’s a contradiction. You’re the one who wants tight government control over our borders. -

This makes no sense whatsoever. Closing borders involves government, not keeping them open. What the hell are you even talking about? You’re very confused.
