You do realize that there were black slaves who murdered their own babies rather than see them grow up in slavery, right? And that there were babies that were sold away from their parents right after being born, or as young children? And that husbands were sold away from their wives and vice versa? And that this lasted for hundreds of years, not for a couple of terrible years? So please stop with this comparison. It’s offensive.

Yes I know all about the Death Ships. I’ve read a few books on the Great Famine in my time. It was a horrible time. And it was completely preventable. Potatoes were the only crop that failed- Ireland produced plenty of food to feed the natives but it was shipped to England by the British landlords who were in debt. These same landlords also prevented the peasants from fishing in order to protect land ownerships for the Scots Protestants they had imported in Ulster. It was a terrible time. But trying to compare it to the centuries of American black slavery is just absurd and awful.

I’m actually open to the argument that Democratic policies have done little to alleviate poverty. Whether it’s in Hawaii, or the inner cities of America, there is no doubt that traditional liberalism hasn’t achieved the desired results. I can’t argue with that. Truth matters. My problem is that I haven’t heard compelling alternatives from conservative sources. Whenever they get into power they want to cut liberal spending. But they don’t replace that spending. They talk about helping small businesses but they only seek to do that by lowering taxes and regulations which really only benefit large corporations and businesses that can already afford to take advantage of that. And they support school vouchers which benefits expensive private schools but does nothing for the schools that the vast majority of students in these poor areas will continue to attend. So those don’t seem like good solutions to me. Offer some real practical solutions and I’m open to them,

This is another incredibly ignorant comment. What you’re basically saying is that you’d rather be a slave than dead. BFD. Even during the worst years of the Great Famine, like 1845, the Irish peasants were free to emigrate. Black slaves were not. Trying to compare the two is really awful.

If you want to read the debate about what Texas is doing it’s easily accessible by Google. Some (me included) think they are defying the Supreme Court. Others argue they are not. It’s an open question, an interesting one, but not something that I care to discuss with Strike.

You raise some very interesting points here. Last time I was in Oahu I couldn’t believe some of the poverty I saw outside of Waikiki. Like a third world country. Billions of tourist revenue every year for beachfront property that was basically stolen from the natives if you read the history. Why shouldn’t the descendants be getting some of that money?

It’s not shtick. Dozens of people who have worked with or been near to Trump during his time in office and afterwards have testified to his craziness, lack of rationality, derangement. Practically everyone who has been close to him. There are books about this. But conversely there is not ONE person close to Biden who has reported that Biden has lost it, is senile. Not ONE. In fact they say the opposite. Dozens of world leaders have commented on their bewilderment or amusement about Trump; there have been many articles and books about their disrespect. But conversely there is not ONE world leader who has ever said that Biden is a laughingstock. Not one. In fact they say the opposite. This whole narrative is a false one. As I wrote it’s a fantasy by conservatives with no bearing to the truth. And I’m not engaging in shtick here.

This is almost 100% wrong, as usual. Biden and the USA was trying to work out a deal with Hamas through Qatar which would have involved the release of all the remaining hostages, but it would have involved Israel having to free many imprisoned terrorists. Israel refused. Biden is criticizing Israel for expanding the war without significant results and for not having any kind of plan for what happens after all of Gaza’s infrastructure has been destroyed, without effectively destroying Hamas. These are legitimate criticisms; Netanyahu is doing nothing to make Israel safer long term; in fact he is making things worse.

I’m going to guess right now, without knowing for sure, that there are considerably more gay people living in San Francisco than in Kansas City. Just a hunch.

Congress gave them missiles against Trump’s wishes. Trump only signed off after getting caught trying to blackmail Zelensky in order to get fake info on Joe Biden. Stop trying to revise history. If Trump had been elected in 2020, Russia would have invaded Ukraine in 2021 exactly the way they did, The only difference is they would have won easily because Trump wouldn’t have lifted a finger to help. And if Trump somehow wins this year, that will be a message to Putin that he can finish off Ukraine and move on to the next target.
