There is no better conservative shtick than “we have real lives, you fockers don’t, that’s why you pay attention to politics and we don’t give a sh!t”. Any time one of their own gets in the slightest bit of trouble they run out this playbook. It never fails.

We seem to have a whole lot of folks here assuring us that this case is over, it should never have been brought, the prosecution has failed, etc. They seem to know more than the defense, the pundits, everyone. I have no idea how this trial is going to turn out, but I think a full acquittal is pretty unlikely. I’m thinking it’s going to be a conviction or a hung jury. Yet many of you seem positive it’s a full acquittal coming. So once again I will offer money on it. $500 says a conviction or a hung jury. Any takers? If you guys are so certain the prosecution has no case this should be easy money for you.

I don’t think so. I don’t think it’s a reasonable analogy. Let’s take Merchan’s daughter for instance. She’s politically involved and opposed to Trump. But she has nothing to do with the specific charges that Trump is being accused of in her father’s case. On the other hand Ginny Thomas was apparently directly involved in issues regarding January 6- therefore from my layman’s understanding of the law, Clarence Thomas should recuse himself from decisions regarding January 6, like this latest question of immunity, and Merchan shouldn’t recuse himself- no reason to- from the current court case. With Alito it’s more of a murky situation, IMO.

Once again people keep trying to tell me why I think the way I do. Except that I already wrote why I think the way I do and your explanation has nothing to do with it. Once again: my beliefs regarding this issue are based on my love for American values and what I think this country is supposed to be about. My personal situation (which by the way bears no relationship to your description) is irrelevant. You’re welcome to disagree with my views, and it’s obvious you do, but please stop trying to tell me what my motivations are.

Yes you’ve written this before. And worse- you have openly hoped that my family suffers- one of my daughters get raped, etc, because of my position on this issue. And I am not the only person here you have wished this on. I’ll leave it to others to judge what sort of person you are for expressing this desire. I know what I think.

I respectfully disagree. I don’t believe we should have laws that treat severely masses of individuals because of the actions of a few. I would refer you to those who believe that, because of some school shootings, we should ban all assault rifles (I am not one of them.) They use the same logic that you are using here.

OK serious time. I don’t want people without papers to come here. I would much prefer they come through legal means. But I am very sympathetic to them once they get here because I believe the vast majority are very hard working, honest people with no thought of violent crime or abusing our social system. I also don’t buy that we don’t have room for them and think our immigration system should be a lot more open. I don’t think these people present either an economic or security risk to us. There are always exceptions of course but exceptions are what they are. This is my honest position.

If it’s a trans person who hasn’t had surgery? Yes. Shouldn’t be allowed, but not a huge deal and no rights are truly infringed. That’s my position.

As ai wrote earlier- if I had to decide I would prohibit anyone with a pen!s from being in those spaces. But I don’t think it’s that big a deal and I don’t think if it happens that any rights are seriously infringed. It’s really pretty minor, IMO. Any large focus on it smacks of fear and bigotry, IMO.

I also don’t agree with the phrase “militant trans”. The use of the word “militant” here is ALWAYS used by conservatives against any group seeking equal treatment and an end to discrimination. Before “militant trans” there were “militant blacks”, “militant feminists”, “militant gays” etc. The term is used as a perjorative to characterize the group as angry and extremist. Which I don’t believe is the case.

I don’t agree that other people’s rights are being dismantled.

I know very little about this guy (I don’t follow golf that much.) But if he really accelerated and hit the police officer that should be a felony, shouldn’t it?

MSNBC and the others are trying to make this trial seem more exciting than it is, with the outcome a horse race and in doubt. They get more viewers that way. In truth the defense’s big “triumph” was probably much ado about nothing. The key parts of Cohen’s testimony are backed up by evidence. Attempting to argue that this phone call misstep proves that Trump didn’t know about this payment will fall flat on its face. As I wrote before, the prosecution has proved beyond a doubt that a crime was committed here. Now they have to show that it’s a felony. The defense should focus on this question; it’s really their only chance to escape a conviction.

Because I want immigration and individual rights. Sure. Another casualty of the Trump era: the English language.
