Personally I wish there was a way to remember Confederate figures without celebrating slavery or racism. Stonewall Jackson, for instance, was a brilliant general and his exploits in the Shenandoah Valley in particular should be studied and even celebrated. But the cause for which he fought should not be. Even so Im not in favor of exorcising his memory.

Turner Ashby didn’t really “lead the pro-slavery states.” He was supposedly a genius horseman, kind of dashing, but he died in the first major Shenandoah battle.

The appeal makes for a long delay but I suspect that they will uphold the judges decision. Probably will have a trial a year from now.

News ratings are up for this trial. Three theories: 1. the public cares and is paying attention. This trial will make a significant difference for November. 2. The public isn’t paying attention. This trial will make no difference, 3. The public isn’t paying attention but will pay attention to the verdict. If and only if it’s a guilty verdict, that will make a difference in November. I honestly have no idea which theory will turn out to be correct.

If you truly believe that “death to America” is an attitude typical of the million plus Muslims living in this country, then you’re an ignorant fool.

Thats simply not true. Have you been to Istanbul? I just spent the summer there. I’ve never encountered a more capitalist society in my life. In this country, over the past 40 years, I’ve worked with dozens of Muslims from all sorts of countries: not only Turkey but Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar, and yes, Palestine. On the whole they are terrific business people and fine Americans. I certainly don’t agree with all aspects of their culture, but guess what? My forebears came from the Jewish ghettoes of Eastern Europe and THEIR culture was just as restrictive, just as socially intolerant, as many of the Muslims I know. Here is the secret: their children reject the old ways and become Americanized. This is true with every culture that has ever arrived on these shores.

Also there’s no replacement going on. When we take in new people they mostly enrich what’s already here. But they don’t replace anyone.

Your question is irrelevant because it’s not going to happen. The American system isn’t based on ethnic culture, it’s based on ideas that have been incorporated into law: capitalism, freedom of the individual, liberalism (in its broadest sense.) All ethnic cultures thrive in such a system. Thats what’s wrong with Coulter’s racism, and what’s also wrong with your question (though I’m not calling you a racist.)

Wrong. Are you familiar with Ronald Reagan’s “city on a hill” concept? He thought of the USA as setting a shining example for the rest of the world as to how things should be done. That’s exactly the way I view it. I’m not a leftist. To me, America is the greatest country that has ever existed, for all of our flaws. But we need to live up to our ideals so the rest of the world can watch and eventually follow. We need to be the city on the hill. And that includes wokeness and diversity.

First off you didn’t prove me wrong. I noted that it’s gone down and it has. I have no doubt that you can take a wider lens and show that it’s still high. But that won’t hurt Biden so long as the numbers are down NOW and through November. Second why so rude? You’re not a very nice guy.

And BTW why should I or anyone reading this care about diversity in African or Asian countries? We live here.

This latest testimony has me wondering: this woman received checks from her boss, Weisselberg, she then sent them by FedEx to Trump’s bodyguard, who gave them to a White House staffer who gave them to Trump, sent back to the staffer, to the bodyguard, then by regular mail to this woman who then waits for final approval from her boss and then mails them out? This seems like a really convoluted process. Granted I’ve worked for a small company my entire life but man does this sound odd. (Of course in my company we cut maybe 1/10th of the checks we cut 5 or 10 years ago- everything is paid online these days.)

Maybe but I think it might be a mistake for the prosecution to keep Daniels too long on the stand for a re-direct that discusses even more of the relationship- I think the jury gets it.

I have a feeling this attack against Daniels will only make the jury more sympathetic to her. But no doubt Trump ordered his attorneys to attack her.
