Everyone involved in this on the prosecution side risks disbarment. Eventually there is a price to be paid for being a sycophant and acting without ethics.

He tried to pull this sh!t all the time during his first term. He wanted Comey indicted then, and Hillary, Mueller, etc. But back then he had smart people that either talked him out of it or threatened to resign. Now he’s got a bunch of sycophants and nobody says no to him.

Very good chance there won’t even be a jury trial. But interesting to see you’re already predicting an acquittal.

Trump has already been humiliated this week by Kimmel. This will take a little longer but the result will blow up even worse.

I didn’t follow the Stone situation. He’s an awful human being but maybe he was mistreated? I’ve no idea. It doesn’t seem relevant here.

I’ve no idea but if I had to guess it’s probably because the case against Stone was legit while this one is a total sham.

There is always the possibility that there is something new here and then I will have to retract what I wrote. But I doubt it. The evidence is by all reporting what was already revealed: that they’re going after Comey based on a statement he made to Congress that he had no knowledge of McCabe giving info to a news reporter, whereas McCabe supposedly told the Wall Street Journal that he told Comey he was going. Maybe Comey lied. Maybe McCabe lied. Maybe one or the other misunderstood the question or the answer. It was 5 years ago. There is constant leaking from the FBI to the media, always has been. Both Comey and McCabe have discussed this in interviews and claimed innocence. This is not the sort of dispute that normally results in criminal charges. It strikes me as extremely selective and vindictive, and ordered by Donald Trump. This last point (Trump’s involvement) is the main reason I think it will be thrown out.

Thrown out of court is a very strong possibility. Vindictive prosecution. if not look for a quick acquittal.

This is wrong, it wasn’t homosexuality they were concerned with per se, it was men dressing up as women and women as men. The vocabulary was different but it was the same idea.

Most voters are not and have never been single issue. But in terms of priorities there are very rare times that the economy isn’t #1. It’s important to add that on most of the other issues you’re naming, particularly immigration, safety, and national security, Trump and the Republicans are underwater. So it’s hard to claim these will help them.

No we don’t have hyperinflation. But there are a few parallels. Here’s one of them: in the 1920s the conservative right in Germany became obsessed with transsexual culture with Berlin in other large cities and it played a big role in the rise of the Nazis as Hitler promised to restore “cultural order”. Another parallel is the Nazis blamed Jews for all their problems. You guys blame undocumented immigrants and Muslims. It’s always the outsider.

I certainly don’t buy into @supermike80’s claim that they don’t mean anything. There are outliers, sometimes they get stuff wrong, but for the most part they reflect opinion fairly well. That being said they don’t matter right now too much. They will matter a year from now as we approach the midterms. By then it seems unlikely that the public will be focused on any of the issues they are focused on now with two exceptions: the economy and healthcare (the latter because of the Big Ugly Bill.) Those two, IMO, are the constants. Specifically if prices don’t come down Republicans will be in huge trouble.

Not really. A lot of foreign aid IS in the form of loans- or guarantees of loans- or forgiveness of previous loans- always has been. It’s all intertwined.

The previous prosecutor reached the conclusion that not only would Comey never be convicted, the evidence was so shoddy that it was a real question if a grand jury would even indict him. That dude was fired, replaced with a Trump sycophant. The likeliest outcome is that Comey WILL be indicted (the whole ham sandwich thing) though even that isn’t a lock. But if he is this case will either be thrown out of court or he will be quickly acquitted.

The forced deportations are of course awful and un-American. It’s a temporary stain however. But the self- deportations, if accurate, is of nearly as much concern. It’s a clear sign that our economy is not growing. We can only hope this also is temporary.
