If you had predicted that I would ever write, with a straight face, that the head of the FBI has no credibility and can’t be trusted I would laugh at you and tell you that will never happen. Even J Edgar Hoover, within his misconceptions, bigotry, and preconceived notions, was almost always at least honest with the American public. Yet here we are in 2025 America. The FBI head lies on a continual basis to us. He has already been caught lying several times to Congress. So I’m only repeating what should be true to everyone.

You’re overlooking two important points here: 1. The head of the FCC went on the air, said he wanted Kimmel removed, and then said we can do this the easy way or the hard way. 2. Sinclair Broadcasting and so think one other group, both of whom are looking for the FCC and Trump to approve large acquisitions later this year, responded to the FCC head’s statement by immediately suspending Kimmel’s show. This in turn resulted in Disney placing Kimmel on suspension. You can continue to claim that there is no connection and the government played no role but you look ridiculous in doing so,

Personally I now think he was fired, and they were going to announce it (legally you “suspend indefinitely” first for contractural reasons.) Then the public weighed in and Disney changed their minds. Making it a “big issue” is what caused the reversal. Kimmel basically acknowledged that last night .

No. First I need to correct something about the Gestapo. They arrested people to be deported from Germany and occupied countries. Most of them had no idea where they were sending them too. The Gestapo has some guilt for the Holocaust but not guilt at that level. It’s an important distinction, and it’s why most Gestapo members were not sentenced to death at Nuremberg or at other war crimes trials. Under Trump ICE has used Gestapo like tactics. They arrest people without cause and without allowing for due process. They have grabbed people off the street and have forcibly separated families. Thats why I believe it’s an apt comparison. But the comparison only goes so far: while they use Gestapo like tactics, neither their motives or their actions are quite at the level of the Gestapo. Hopefully it never gets that far. Even more hopefully we pull out of this dreadful time we’re in.

There’s been more studies done since that time and it’s only grown. For most women MAGA is a turn off. This is why when I joked a few years ago that most MAGA women were ugly there was just a kernel of truth to it. Most good looking women are liberal. That’s always been the case.

I was actually at my doctor’s yesterday for my annual physical and because we had this discussion earlier that day I asked her what she thought about all this. She called it nonsense. She said “it’s like we’re going backwards through time.” She said that people were going to believe Trump and RFK’s nonsense and some were going to get sick and some were going to die. As I wrote in the RFK thread this isn’t a laughing matter. When it comes to health you either accept the consensus of people who spend their lives doing this or you don’t. It’s frankly pathetic that you think you “won” this discussion. You’re on the wrong side here. Wake the hell up.

Horrible events like this one produce emotional responses from all sides so I understand your reaction. But since I believe that, despite our differences, you seem like a decent dude, I hope you come to realize eventually how irrational your position is here.

I am one of those who have written here that ICE agents under Trump are behaving like modern day Gestapo. I think that’s correct. I’m not going to stop repeating that until they stop their Gestapo like behavior. I think it’s wrong to target non violent people, to separate families, to detain and deport non violent people. I don’t care what their legal status is. What ICE is doing is anti-American in my book. Full stop. But I am not calling for violence against them (or against anyone) and I condemn it. Passive resistance only. And if you or anyone else tries to blame this horrible incident (if indeed ICE agents were targeted, we just don’t know) on what I wrote or on anyone else who shares my opinion, kindly Fock off, because you’re wrong.
