Sure. But isn’t that a good thing? I can’t think of any reasonable person who would want Biden to lose, given the alternative.

You’re complimenting him: And me. I approve of what this Chicago mayor is doing; -
Maine’s top election official removes Trump from 2024 primary ballot
The Real timschochet replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
His specific reason (that Maine isn’t winner take all) is also irrelevant, because the difference isn’t going to be less than 5 electoral votes. -
The main problems are mortgage rates and the inflation that people can see in their daily lives- so long as these remain high, all of the talk about the good economy won’t help Biden. But I think both will improve by the summer.

Stop with the “people like you are OK with this”. I’m not OK with this, and I’ve posted that several times now. All I’m saying is that I doubt it would affect the outcome. -
You’re aware that when Virginia seceded, what is now the state of West Virginia didn’t go along with it? That they attempted to secede from Virginia but the Confederacy crushed the rebellion?
-
Correct. I didn’t mean to say all Christians. Some are stricter than others of course. But that’s true of Muslims as well.
-
The statement itself is hypocritical because it was written by a slave owner. But that aside it became even more hypocritical once the United States was established, since every state had to abide by federal law, the Constitution and the Supreme Court. A society based on the rule of law cannot function if anyone has the right to bow out if that law at any time. Now, it would have been one thing if southerners had said, “we can’t live in the United States, we’re leaving,• and then they packed up and left, like the Boertrekkers or the Mormons did. But southerners didn’t leave; they stayed where they were and said “we’re no longer part of your government.” That, said Lincoln, was untenable, and he was right.

The problem with this whole theory is that when it comes specifically to homosexuality there really isn’t much of a difference. If freedom for gay people was my primary concern I would hesitate equally to vote for a religious Muslim, or Christian, or Jew. I would prefer a socially liberal atheist. But if that wasn’t a choice I would have to decide on other factors. You continue to treat virtue signaling as if it was some kind of bad thing but that’s only true if one rejects the virtue being signaled. I don’t.
-
I agree with this, it’s generally true. But it’s not true in terms of attitudes towards gays and trans.
-
Should they have voted for religious Christians who would have delivered the same result?

Then please explain why the movement to keep gay marriage illegal lasted so long and was supported by all of the exact same people. -
I see no contradiction in celebrating Muslims winning elections here, as a sign of our diversity, and still deploring anti-gay attitudes.

Maine’s top election official removes Trump from 2024 primary ballot
The Real timschochet replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
It actually wouldn’t, in the final analysis, be a joke, because there is no state that Trump will be removed in which would ever go for Trump, and vice versa for Biden, in the election of 1860, most southern states did not have Abe Lincoln on the ballot, -
Unfortunately? Lol. Im sure you’re not a lunatic in real life. But your political views are IMO, way out there.

Well that’s 3 “you described Biden!” in a row. I certainly don’t share that perspective. Guess at this point we’ll have to vote and see what happens. -
I want to reform Social Security. I don’t want to completely blow it up. The two ideas are not the same. If you’re for blowing it up then you’re not for reform. Which is it?

Probably, in retrospect, not the best use of terms. But I’m very concerned. He’s an autocrat, an idiot, a racist, with terrible ideas for the country. -
Actually you are the one being manipulated, not me. But I know you will never be convinced of that.

Toranaga: There is no right to rebel against your liege lord. Blackthorne: Unless you win. Succession is not a constitutional right. But there is an argument to be made that it is a moral right, otherwise the United States would never have been established in the first place. On the other hand, Lincoln made the argument that a democratic republic such as ours cannot long survive if we ever grant the right of succession to anyone who chooses. Ironically, during the Civil War the Confederacy attempted to crush the secession of West Virginia from the state of Virginia arguing that only states and not groups of people had the right to secede. It’s very much an open question but I side with Lincoln.

Hmm. I would like government spending reform.

I’m terrified of Trump. I can’t believe so many people are considering voting for him again. But this remains a poor decision. The key point hasn’t changed: Trump has not been charged with, much less found guilty of insurrection. There are reasonable doubts that what happened on January 6 even WAS an insurrection, rather than a spur of the moment riot (though I think it was). There are reasonable doubts that even if it was an insurrection that Trump, who did not personally commit any violence, is guilty of insurrection (though I think he is.) How then can the 14th Amendment clause apply to him? It can’t, IMO.
