They’d do it anyway. Most of the retail businesses in California are owned by new immigrants: Hispanics, Asians, Middle Easterners: Thwy hire family members and undocumented friends from the same country. Everyone is paid under the table. Minimum wage laws have nothing to do with it.

Again what you’re relating has no bearing on reality here in California. Small business food retail is thriving. It’s fully rebounded from Covid. And with most small businesses, minimum wage really isn’t relevant because they pay employees under the table. A majority of small restaurants here use undocumented labor: I keep trying to tell you guys this but you don’t listen.

Only last night Trump promised to federalize the local police of this country. Once again he referred to undocumented immigrants as animals and vermin. He has called for abrogating the Constitution. He continually threatens political violence: So I don’t think any of this is an exaggeration. And I absolutely believe that Trump wants a dictatorship. And there is no equivalence on the Democratic side.

I’m out right now. Watching the waves here in Orange County. Beautiful morning.

I don’t know: it’s never happened in this country. Guess we’ll find out if Trump wins.

So ironic the nickname for her used here when the guy that defeated her wants to impose a dictatorship in this country, In a sane world we’d be living right now in the 8th year of Hillary’s presidency and all of lives would be better by any measure possible.

Fast food is expanding in California. So is all retail: Here in Southern Cal the demand for retail space is incredible. I’m not a fan of raising the minimum wage but it’s not hurting us at all.

The turnover came in 1994 following Prop 187 and Pete Wilson’s disastrous anti-immigrant campaign (mild by Trumpian standards). Thats why we’ve been a blue state ever since. Remove the immigration issue and Cali will be purple in 10 years.

No thank you. @Engorgeous George and several others disagree strongly with my take on this matter and I’m not going to reopen it because it would just create more argument. So far as I am concerned the issue is closed.

The Latino population of Texas is growing exponentially. But- these folks are generally conservative- both economically and socially. Leftism repels them. Right now about 55-60% of them are Democrats but that’s only because they perceive the current anti-immigrant rhetoric of the Republican Party as anti-Latino. Remove that issue, return to the days of Ronald Reagan who was welcoming of immigrants from Latin America, and Latinos will jump to the Republicans 70-30. In fact it will probably give the Republicans a permanent majority since African-Americans tend to be socially conservative as well. I’m a woke guy but woke is not popular among working class Latinos and blacks. The conservative movement is shooting itself in the foot here when it could easily be winning. IMO.
