Timmy’s thread for general discussion
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I do not agree with the accuracy of events as some have described above regarding the wager. But I’m not going to explain it again because the matter has been settled and @Engorgeous George has behaved like a gentleman so I will as well. I recommend anyone who wishes for an accurate accounting of what took place to go back and read through the thread, last 3-4 pages. It doesn’t take that long. -

Mentally Ill people should not be allowed to vote or own a gun.

Do I really need to? OK. I believe that Donald Trump is mentally ill. I think he is incompetent for the Presidency and proved it last time with his terrible performance. I don’t think Joe Biden is perfect but at least he’s competent and stable. -

I don’t think it’s a wise practice to send a cashiers check in the mail to somebody I don’t know. But it’s settled anyhow. -

@Engorgeous George I just tried to send you a message but you’re no longer receiving them, so this will have to be public. I lost my temper there, and I have throughout this entire discussion. I apologize to you. I don’t agree with how you won this wager and I never will, but you did win and I agreed to pay you. I should not have given you an ultimatum, you’re right about that, and I apologize for that as well. I am asking you nicely to accept a form of payment other than a check because a check would involve other people in my office and I don’t wish to do that. It is a request, not an ultimatum or demand. But I will find a way to pay you one way or another. Can you please come up with some alternative to a check? I don’t think that’s an unreasonable request but it is a request. I’ve been overly rude to you because you pissed me off. Thats not the person I want to be so I apologize for that as well. I don’t know you at all but I don’t want to feud with you or anyone here. Let me know how you want to handle this. Thank you. -

OMG such bs. I agreed to pay you by check then I changed my mind. Too focking bad. You don’t get to dictate how you’re going to be paid. Now you’re not going to get paid at all. You had 3 days to set up a Venmo account. If you had I would have immediately sent you $2,000.00. Now you get nothing. And go ahead and insult me all you want. You always have. You’re rude and you’re stupid for a lawyer (I’ve met some dumb ones though.) I’ll repeat what I wrote earlier: you have no integrity. -

Well I’m voting Democrat up and down the ticket this year and I don’t regard myself as a leftist. I simply oppose current Republican views on a variety of issues, and I find their current Presidential candidate and their stances on immigration, NATO, trade, to be unacceptable. -

This might work if Republicans had chosen a sane candidate to oppose Joe Biden. Since they didn’t I’m afraid you may have to wait until 2028 to see if this argument has merit. -

@RLLD I don’t think you’re stupid, but I do disagree that this is the worst economy in recent years and it’s a pretty ridiculous assertion. Putting aside the Covid crisis (because I will grant you your point that that was not a question of policy at least starting out) it was worse in 2008-10 following the bailout, by any measure other than inflation. Unemployment for example was far worse- it hovered at about 10% or higher for 3 years. Many more homes were underwater. If we’re going just by inflation then we need only go back to 1979-1981. Interest rates were a whopping 15%. Gas stations had lines around the block which I well remember. So I think your assertion is a little off. -

The only reason I “spiked the ball early” (by posting about it, not in actuality) was because he was being such an a$$hole about it, wanting me to send him a check with the words “I am a dumbass” on it, etc. And yes he wants me to pay him because he pm’ed me a mailing address. But it’s not gonna happen. -

There is way too much name calling in this forum on all sides. I don’t recall if you’re partaken in it yourself. But most people here don’t. ETA- actually, writing that “there’s no such thing as serious discussions with liberals” is itself a form of name-calling. -

Update: I posted this yesterday morning. Before that I posted numerous times that @Engorgeous George needed to provide me a Venmo or PayPal address and that I was not going to send him a check. He responded directly to this post with “there you go” so it’s not a question of him not seeing it. But he has never given me anything other than a mailing address. So be it. I consider myself absolved of this wager. It’s over. I tried to pay the man despite his weasley bullsh!t, he wouldn’t provide the means. And now we’re done. -
https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/01/climate/nuclear-fusion-record-korea-climate-intl/index.html Biggest story on the planet. 100 years from now, historians looking back will talk about this topic as they do Gutenberg’s printing press or the start of the Industrial Revolution. This energy will change all of our lives in profound ways we can’t even imagine at this moment. Virtually every problem we face now will be eliminated.

?? No joke. The climate change problem we’re suffering from is a result of man’s use of fossil fuels. Eliminate fossil fuels and the problem goes away. -

It’s not BS. They believe in it. I don’t. I vote Democrat mainly because of social issues (I’m pretty woke) and because I completely reject Trump and MAGA. But I don’t think Democrats have great economic ideas. Far from it. I voted for Republicans most of my life. If Ronald Reagan rose from the grave I’d vote for him right now. -

Agreed. ETA- and that is why this issue, despite its absolute urgency, doesn’t motivate my vote one way or the other and it shouldn’t yours either. Vote on the issues in which you truly believe that the people you’re voting for will institute the changes you desire. This isn’t one of them. -

Not at all. If a significant percentage of folks had 2 million or more, say 25%, then yeah I would agree such a restriction would incentivize failure. But at 1% the argument becomes meaningless. Most people won’t get there anyhow. -

Update: according to Quora, 2 million or more is less than 1%. I can’t verify that. 1 million or more is 8.8%- that figure is verified in the link.
