Timmy’s thread for general discussion

You’re wasting your time. Byrd, much a couple Republicans I can think of, repudiated the racism if his earlier years. Biden correctly gave him the benefit of the doubt. It’s very silly of you to bring this up. Joe Biden supports ending institutionalized racism in our police forces, increasing education benefits for black people, supporting the inner cities, restoring voting rights that Republicans are trying to remove. This is why the vast majority of African-Americans, as well as most of those who give a damn about racism, will be voting for him. Whatever reasonable claims Republicans may have made in the past about this issue has been destroyed by their support of Donald Trump. Until he’s gone you don’t even get to talk about this subject because you have no credibility. -

The current first page of this forum demonstrates how only a couple of people here can pollute all reasonable discourse with truly ugly and moronic rhetoric- it’s the main reason I’ve chosen to stick in this thread. Of course they pollute this thread as well, just look at the last couple of posts. But they’re easier to bypass here. The latest insipid argument, brought to us by the same morons who post that Joe Biden is a pedophile, is that there is no difference between the racist Democratic Party of the pre-Civil Rights era and today’s progressive, pro-woke Democrats. Actually to call this an “argument” is probably too complimentary. It can only be offered by people with no sense of history and those who feel guilty that the party they support is featuring an open bigot as their leader. They should feel guilty; they’ll never live it down. -

Fani Willis: “The train is coming”. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/03/23/politics/fulton-county-da-fani-willis-says-the-train-is-comingfor-trump-and-his-co-defendants I love her. This isn’t like the New York case, which I’m unsure about. Here Trump is very clearly guilty and he really belongs in jail. They tried to make a big deal about her relationship with the other DA and that was really stupid- who cares? It has nothing to do with the case. Really hoping this is the one that takes Trump down. -

Polls are starting to turn towards Biden: https://www.newsweek.com/joe-biden-leads-donald-trump-eight-polls-1882336 Here’s the problem for Trump: he’s got no room to grow. Biden does. -

Marjorie Taylor Greene may have just enabled funding for Ukraine. The motion to vacate will eventually force a vote on the Soeaker, threatening chaos again. But Hakeem Jeffries has indicated he’ll get the Dems to vote for Johnson in exchange for Ukraine funding. -

There is no rational way to respond to this irrational post. Such anger cannot possibly have its source in politics. -

This is false. The borders exploded during and after Covid. Nothing to do with Biden (or Trump.) Wake the fock up, Mr Privileged. -

Liberals and leftists could pass every bill on Bernie Sanders’ wish list, we could adopt every woke measure that’s ever been proposed, we could have reparations for slavery and allow complete and open inmigration at our southern border and white male Christian conservatives would STILL be the kings of our society with privilege and power unrivaled by any other group of people. They are not victims and never can be. Take your win Jon, the win you had guaranteed at birth, and stop whining. -

As usual almost everything you wrote here is false. You seem to swallow conservative rhetoric whole and spew it out. Biden does not have the power you think he does. And if he did you’d call him a dictator. Someday you might learn to think for yourself again. -

The ugly rhetoric of blame has really contaminated our public discourse. This morning Houae Republicans angry about the new budget deal said that any death committed by an undocumented immigrant will be the responsibility of those who passed the bill- language just like that of @jonnyutah. It’s really sad that we live in such times. Lincoln, that first and greatest Republican, spoke of the better angels of our nature. Where have they gone? -

I could have just as easily written “Thanks Trump”- because he and the Republicans refused to pass the border bill which would have helped. But I don’t blame Trump. Because blaming people for acts they didn’t commit is the height of immaturity and a sure sign of extremism and I don’t want to be that guy. I feel sorry for you. -

You still focus on irrelevant details almost all of the time. And you don’t think there’s any evidence of Trump inciting violence. Talk about ignorance. -

Serious question- not for the Maga types but for anyone else reading this: Does the blind loyalty to Donald Trump, and the insistence that he is a victim no matter what the evidence shows, remind anyone else of the way a lot of black people felt about OJ Simpson when he was on trial for murder? It does me. -

You’re wasting your time in this thread. Come up with some of your own arguments. If you truly believe that Biden is to blame for the inflation that occurred after Covid, you’re going to have to explain why it’s lower here than in almost any other country. -

I get that many people here side with Texas on this border issue because they prefer Abbot’s policies towards undocumented immigrants and the border over those of our current federal government. But it’s a bigger issue than that: does a state government have the right to enforce federal laws in a manner of its own choosing? I thought we settled this back in the John C Calhoun nullification days and then again in the Civil War. The answer is still no. -

Here is a breakdown of Engorgon’s decision and how he arrived at the numbers: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/25/trump-354-million-penalty-judgment/ I’m not sure it’s right, but the assertions that @Jon_mx have been making, that it’s entirely bogus, that it’s based on tax assessed values, that there no victims here, is not true. Basically Jon is repeating Trump’s attorneys’ arguments and adopting them as gospel ( which is always unwise because these attorneys are almost always dishonest and lose big all of the time.) On the issue of no victims, one big one appears to be whoever else bid for the Old Post Office building that Trump was able to secure apparently through fraudulent means. Again I’m not saying I agree with the judge’s decision. It’s pretty complicated and very large numbers are involved. Let’s see what the appeals court says. I suspect they will knock the amount down some but it will still be substantial. And that will make Jon’s arguments look ridiculous once again (but that’s an old story around here.)
