This is a common conservative belief and I really think you’re wrong as you could be. Immigrants do not come here for government services. They do not vote Democrat for government services.

It sounds like the meeting between Biden and Xi was very productive. And it needed to be. We are never going to go to war with China. Like it or not we need them, and they need us. Trade needs to be expanded.

I don’t think they’re really considering it one way or another. Rather, they view Palestinians as a downtrodden minority, persecuted by the world much as they have been, so they’re sympathetic. One of the greatest ironies of your nativist position is this: whether it’s immigrants from Latin America, or the Middle East, or Africa, these folks once they get here are mostly conservative! The only reason many of them vote Democrat, for now, is that they sense your antipathy to their presence. If you ever remove that you will have solid conservative majorities on most issues. Normally I don’t respond to you but this one is too important not to. You are not correct here. The Qu’run teaches that Jews and Christians are “People of the Book” and are not subject to death, which is why early Islamic society included thriving Jewish and Christian communities, and these minorities were treated far better than Muslims were in middle age Christian societies. There are radical and extremist Muslims who do not abide with the Qu’run, and that would include Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, and the Iranian government. But it does not represent the majority of the 1 billion Muslims on this planet.

Yes. It is. Hopefully their exposure to American culture will change their minds, or their children’s minds. That’s usually how it works here. The Irish immigrants of the 19th century were absolutely hated by nativists who tried hard to get their numbers limited or deported. These same Irish were among the most savage racists against black people in this country. Yet some of their descendants became great civil rights leaders.

Death of civilization? Well I wouldn’t go that far. But it’s a distinctly conservative trait to look at events in terms of black and white, good and evil. This can be a great strength: sometimes it helps to have moral clarity and liberals often get confused about this: the college students who sympathize with Hamas struggle from a lack of moral clarity IMO. It’s an admirable trait and it has always caused me to admire and like most conservatives I know. But on the other hand it can also be a weakness particularly as you move beyond the general outlines of a situation and into the details and that’s what the problem is here. Moral clarity is not so good if it causes you to make snap judgments based not on the specific details of an event, but instead that aligns with your world view. Simply put, many here have decided that Israel is the good guy in this affair and will therefore find justification for anything Israel does- because Hamas is so evil (which is true.)

Or maybe, just maybe, this is a complex subject and black and white viewpoints don’t apply and aren’t really helpful.

The vast majority of those from the Middle East that we let into this country, as refugees or immigrants, are hard working Americans who want nothing more than freedom and economic opportunity. I’m proud and happy that they come here and I for one continue to welcome them same as I do immigrants and refugees from every other part of the globe. As far as I’m concerned the nativism that you are expressing here, and your characterization of these poor people, is anti-American, opposed to our core values, THIS more than any other issue is the main reason I am opposed to MAGA and will always fight those that think like you.

Political violence is unacceptable, 100% of the time, and always needs to be punished.

I know some of you are rooting for this. About 20 extreme Republicans are trying to force the rest into it. And apparently Trump behind the scenes is pushing for it as well. They want to shut down Ukraine spending. Actually, it sounds like they want to shut down ALL spending. They want to tear it all down.
