He is the lead singer of a David Bowie cover band so that’s pretty cool. Too bad he caught the crazy.

Here is a report on Baker from NBC News. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna14004 According to the article he turned himself into the authorities, faces misdemeanor charges, and is currently out on bail. That certainly seems to contradict your claim that he was seized and shackled by 20 FBI agents- though I certainly have no idea. I never heard of the guy. Is NBC lying here? What parts of this story do you regard as inaccurate?

Hey @Strike here is the National Review on the classified doc case. Apparently they don’t share your use of “data and logic”: https://www.nationalreview.com/2023/06/the-trump-indictment-is-damning/amp/

    1. The classified case is far worse than you’re presenting here. Trump was asked to return the documents, just like Biden was. If he had done so, as Biden did, nothing would have happened. Instead Trump refused to cooperate, lied about having some of them, and attempted to hide them. They had no choice to indict and this will be shown when/if there is finally a trial. His guilt is very clear here. 2. Doesn’t matter how many times Fani went to the White House (I’m taking your word on that BTW). Trump’s guilt was obvious from the moment that recording came out when he asks the Georgia Sof S to manufacture votes. He should have been indicted within weeks of that phone call. In each of these cases they waited too long to indict, that’s the only political aspect; 3. Your conclusion is NOT what “those of us who use data and logic” think; it’s only what MAGA heads and other conservatives think. The rest of us think differently. But it doesn’t matter what any of us think; in each of these cases, unlike the NY fraud case, a jury will decide. I think the evidence that he is guilty is 100% in the classified docs case, 100% in Georgia, about 60-70% in Jan 6, and I’ve no idea about the hush money case, haven’t really followed it.

I won’t. But if they lower the fine to somewhere around 100-150 million, will you concede that it’s a legit case?

Once again the argument is made that ALL the Trump trials are political. Once again I refute that. Once again we go back to the fraud trial. As I wrote just a few minutes ago, let’s wait and see what the appeals court does. That will tell us if this result was legitimate. Even if it does not it has no bearing on the other trials.

Incidentally, the serious discussion in this thread doesn’t always have to be about politics. The Texas wide receiver, Worthy, that broke the 40 record yesterday is now projected to go in the 1st round of the draft. I dunno, this sounds like Al Davis thinking to me. Haven’t we seen enough wide receivers in the league to know that pure speed, while great, is only one factor? There are so many other intangibles. And there’s so many of these guys. This is not a knock on Worthy, I wish him well. But I doubt I would ever spend a 1st round pick on a WR….

I guess I’m stupid then because like almost all of your other assertions in this thread, I find this one ridiculous and I completely deny it.

In my last response to you I explained why all of your examples of my previous posts have no bearing on the larger point I was making and that I wasn’t rewriting any history. My earlier stance on this specific issue was, obviously, based on wrong information. It wasn’t intentional. Do I think that Trump was wrongly charged here and that this particular trial was politically motivated? I still haven’t made up my mind but after reading more about it I lean towards no, that it was a legitimate prosecution. Let’s see what the appeals court says. I suspect that they will reduce the fine some but keep the judgment in place. I don’t think it will be thrown out. If it’s not thrown out then it was a legitimate case to bring. I will wait and trust the result.

Even if all of this were true (and frankly it isn’t, I dispute all of it) it would STILL be highly offensive to compare it to black people in the 1800s. Are you that ignorant of history? Or have you no shame? It’s one or the other.
  11. The Real timschochet

    Timmy’s thread for general discussion

The only reason I got into that argument in the first place with you is because somebody else argued that ALL of Trump’s trials were political, I refuted it, he offered the example of the fraud trial, I got my info wrong and you entered the conversation at that point .You were eager to prove me wrong on that particular argument and to your credit you did. You offered no opinion on the larger argument that proceeded it which was the point being discussed. It’s best to use “full stop” only once in a post, and only at the end of the post. HTH

    Timmy’s thread for general discussion

Wow. Almost all of this is nonsense but I have to focus on these words: “conservatives are treated like blacks in the 1800s”. So offensive. So ridiculous. So repugnant. Sadly this is not the first time you’ve done this. In earlier posts you’ve likened conservatives to Jews during the Holocaust. Are you really that ignorant of history? Or do you just lack any shame? Honestly it has to be one or the other.

Again I don’t always get everything right. Voltaire corrected me about Orban having political prisoners. But he certainly intends to. So I jumped the gun. My main point, that the guy is a dictator whom Trump admires, is accurate. You corrected me that the fraud trial Trump lost was not tax fraud. But it was fraud. My main point which was in refutation of the notion that most of the legal challenges Trump faces are politically motivated, is accurate- most of them aren’t. So again, you’re correcting details and focusing on them but never refuting the big picture. And that gets tiring too.

Oops! You’re correct that slimeball Orban doesn’t have any political prisoners yet. He’s planning on it, he really wants to, but his new sovereignty law hasn’t come into effect yet: https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/23/orban-accused-of-trying-to-silence-all-critics-in-hungary-with-new-law We have also discussed before how Orban’s attacks against Soros (who should be a hero in Hungary as he is the man most responsible for liberating it from Communism) and globalism is filled with anti-semitism. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/18/hungarian-government-viktor-orban-campaign-renews-antisemitism-concerns This is not a dude you should be defending. And it’s frankly revolting that Trump admires the guy.

The California Senate race now looks like it will be Adam Schiff vs Steve Garvey. Schiff is fine with me. I actually preferred Katie Porter, who I’ve met and like, but there’s nothing wrong with Adam Schiff. He has been mercilessly attacked by conservatives for his attacks on Trump. Yet Schiff has been right all along (including about Trump’s ties to Russia). Schiff was amazingly eloquent during the first impeachment trial, and he is a smart and honest politician. I’m happy that he will be our next senator- he should win easily over Garvey, who has tied himself to positions not popular in this state. However- don’t look for me to say one bad word about Steve Garvey. I don’t care about his politics. He is a hero to me and always will he. I was at game 3 in 1981 when he and Ron Cey hit home runs that beat the evil Yankees and began the 4 game winning streak that won the Series. One of my favorite sports moments in my life. Love love Steve Garvey!

I am also still offering even odds on Biden winning the election (though recent polling is obviously worrisome.)

For those like @lickin_starfish and others who assert with confidence that Joe Biden won’t be the Democratic nominee for President in 2024, my offer still stands to all takers: 4-1 odds. Thats better odds than Vegas will give, as @Horseman has pointed out (though for some reason, despite mocking me for offering these odds, he won’t take me up on them.)

I weary of this constant stream of misinformation from you. But: 1. Social media isn’t press, much less free press. 2. I despise lying and false information and hate speech. That said I’m not for restricting it. But I don’t trust it. You’re wrong I oppose regulating it on the internet. You want to go to Stormfront and peddle bigotry, fine with me. 3. The government didn’t suppress the Hunter Biden non-story. I knew about it weeks before the election, so did everyone else who wanted to. Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump complained about it on Fox News. The mainstream media didn’t spend a lot of time on it because it was sleazy nonsense that couldn’t be properly verified. And, though this part doesn’t matter in terms of the supposed “suppression”, I don’t believe it would have changed a single vote. 3. The one part you’re correct about: I don’t have a problem with millions of Americans being censored by Big Tech. Thats because social media is owned by private corporations and can do what they want. The only kind of censorship I care about is that imposed by the government. And here we catch you in a blatant hypocrisy: you want social media to stop censoring conservative voices. But at the same time you don’t want social media regulated. There is no way to accomplish one without the other. You’d better decide what you actually want. Me, I want to leave it to social media to decide for themselves without restriction. But intelligent people should never regard it as news. 4. Your final sentence is pure hyperbole, not worth addressing, except I should point out once again that the Presidential candidate you are supporting has already stated his intention to abrogate the Constitution and “come down hard” on media he does not approve of, like MSNBC, just like his hero Viktor Orban who is coming next week to be his honored guest: https://thehill.com/homenews/media/4332877-trump-msnbc-coverage-election-interference-campaign/amp/ https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/03/politics/trump-constitution-truth-social/index.html

Trump will be meeting with one of his closest friends and allies, Hungarian anti-Semitic dictator Viktor Orban this week in Florida: https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-viktor-orban-2024-93c918f419ff870bbc468676cf5a415c After taking office in a free election, Orban has imprisoned all political opponents, clapped down on the free press and made himself President for life. No doubt he will have plenty of advice for his admirer and buddy…

@jerryskids for the record I don’t think you’re a mean person. To your credit you haven’t offered any hateful rhetoric regarding this topic. Others haven’t followed your example, however.

I process them, I just sharply disagree. And I think you’re being incredibly patronizing to transgenders, by telling them they’re doing damage to themselves, or that they’re sick or mentally ill. I hope they don’t spend any time listening to you- or to me either. They should trust their doctors.
  23. The Real timschochet

    Timmy’s thread for general discussion

You mean worse than it is. “better” than it is, like “damaged” implies that this whole thing is a mistake for most people. From what I’ve read only a tiny percentage ever regret it, though the few that do obviously get a lot of play from conservatives.

I’m not sure but I don’t believe the changes are irreversible. Also the word “damage” is quite revealing. And very inaccurate.
