Yes we generally agree on this overall point; my differences with you are a question of degree, particularly as it pertains to the USA. For instance I have never had a problem with the MSM’s coverage of the 2020 protests and riots. I believe they were fair; I know you don’t. Also I have no problem with woke on our college campuses. I have a problem with hate speech and violence, from any side, and with censorship from any side (that is public.) But I think modern day conservatives tend to find threads linking all of these issues and I reject that way of thinking. Each case is its own and should be analyzed as its own. I reject the idea of slippery slopes, always have.

Because Israel is regarded as part of the West, and Palestinians are regarded as part of the Third World, and thus is this viewed, wrongly, as an issue of imperialism. That, and not anti-Semitism, is IMO at the root of the answer to your question.

[** Official President Joe Biden Thread **]
The Real timschochet replied to Rusty Syringes's topic in The Geek Club
Incredible that anyone could object to fighting against Islamophobia AND anti-Semitism. Incredible that anyone could accuse Kamala Harris, whose husband is Jewish, of not doing enough to fight anti-Semitism. Yet here we are. -
I don’t see how a Palestinian state would be less “controllable” for Israel than what is happening now.

Because it really bothered me at the time that he (Knight) would lend his name and legacy to such a bigot. It still does. It was a shameful thing. To promote such a bigoted man is dishonorable.

Wasn’t meant to be a troll. Specifically, Netanyahu spent years propping up Hamas and trying to work with and promote them: https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/amp/ As a more general rule, Israel’s policies of expansion of settlements since 1967 heavily contributed to the formation of Hamas in the first place.

This is an evil, awful human being. And you confuse many of my comments about Israel. I don’t blame them for what they are doing right now. I just don’t know if it’s the wisest choice. (I DO blame Israeli policies in the past for contributing to some of this current crisis but that’s a different issue.)

Cdub’s worldview is that the Jews are behind everything bad and the Holocaust never happened. If my truthful post about Knight makes that easier for you to believe, then I would suggest that you have designated the wrong piece of sh!t in this discussion, and should really look in the mirror.

He wasn’t a terrible man. But he wasn’t a great guy either. At least not as a public figure. He may have been a wonderful guy personally and therefore I’m sorry for his family.

The safest and most secure election in the history of American politics
The Real timschochet replied to Dizkneelande's topic in The Geek Club
Yeah but it’s mainly limited to Chicago. New Jersey and Louisiana are statewide. -
The safest and most secure election in the history of American politics
The Real timschochet replied to Dizkneelande's topic in The Geek Club
Of course it happens on my state. And every state. Just not at the same frequency as New Jersey or Louisiana. Your wager is getting tiresome. I’ll leave when I feel like it. Sorry if that bothers you. -
The safest and most secure election in the history of American politics
The Real timschochet replied to Dizkneelande's topic in The Geek Club
Shenanigans in New Jersey is almost an American tradition. In the history of American politics no state, with the possible exception of Louisiana, has ever been more corrupt. This is true irrespective of political party. It must be something in the air in those two states… -
Speaker of the House discussion

He just gave a news conference. If I understood him correctly, he split off the spending for Israel from the spending for Ukraine because, like Gaetz, he believes in the principle that each proposal should stand alone. And he is pairing spending for Ukraine with spending on the border because he believes that that both should be addressed at the same time. And he is pairing spending for Israel with removing money from IRS spending because he believes in fiscal responsibility (even though removing money from the IRS will actually INCREASE the deficit, per the non partisan CBO). These statements strike me as all contradictory to each other. Anyone think that they all make sense? -
That should have been the reaction to Trump for sure. From the moment he came down the escalator. But unfortunately for a lot of people it wasn’t, and still isn’t. You’ve only got yourselves to blame.

Colorado Trial to Disqualify Trump from the Ballot
The Real timschochet replied to Engorgeous George's topic in The Geek Club
I have no idea if this would be a good legal decision- I’m not a constitutional scholar. But it would be a terrible political decision. If Donald Trump is to be defeated it needs to be at the ballot box, fairly, as he was in 2020. If he wins re-election next time around so be it. But taking away the right of the voters to decide will bring about nothing but more discord and dissension. -
That is for sure. But the same is true for John Wooden and Coach K, and by all accounts, they weren’t a$$holes. Knight was. Knight also chose to campaign for Donald Trump, AFTER Trump’s racist and bigoted remarks against Mexican-Americans, blacks, women, and Muslims in 2016. Anyone who publicly campaigned for Donald Trump (and Knight was enthusiastic about it) deserves a whole lot of shame for that act alone.

Look this isn’t complicated. If we cut off aid to Ukraine they will lose the war. If they lose the war, Poland and the other border states of NATO will be threatened. Which means we will have to put more troops in to defend them, and spend more money. In other words, cutting off aid to Ukraine will actually cost us more money in the long run, and possibly American lives as well. Unless of course, you simply want that we should renege on our honor and obligations and abandon NATO altogether (many MAGA types seem to be in favor of this idea.)

I don’t think there was ever any evidence that the hospital wasn’t bombed. It was simply never confirmed who did it. Turns out it wasn’t Israel which is very good news. I entirely reject your premise that, because I trust the MSM as a general rule, that somehow indicates a lack of critical thinking.
-
You seem to be particularly upset with my views. Yet I support Israel trying to destroy Hamas. I am concerned about both the civilians who are dying as a result, especially children, and I question what the endgame strategy is supposed to be. But apparently in your eyes any doubt at all is the sign of a “useful idiot.” Whereas I would say the useful idiots are the ones who don’t question anything.

I’m glad, generally, of the Holocaust memorials. But Denver is about as far removed from what happened at Babi Yar as just about any place on Earth I can think of. Perhaps a Sand Creek memorial would be more appropriate? (There may be one I have no idea.) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_Creek_massacre
-
I don’t think it’s intentional genocide. But they may very well be shading the truth.
-
Somebody is lying. The Israeli government is claiming that there is a “safe space” in south east Gaza where it has urged Palestinians to go to. “Nobody has to die,” Netanyahu said yesterday, “they can flee to the safe space and they will not be harmed. Hamas is preventing them from fleeing to the safe space so Hamas is responsible for all of the civilian deaths.” However the United Nations is claiming that south east Gaza is being bombed at an intense level and there is no “safe space”. They are backed up by most of our mainstream media, particularly MSNBC and CNN which are showing pictures and videos which apparently demonstrate that Israel is lying.
-
If they can achieve the outcomes you list here I’m OK with it too. It’s a big if IMO. And in any case I’m not in love with it. But I have no argument with what you’re saying,
-
Figured you’d like it, But I’m hoping the American public won’t, we’ll see. In any case the Senate will never accept this, so there will be no aid for Israel, or Ukraine, and we are at a standstill.
