The whole time Trump was President he complained that he couldn’t fix the border without Congress’ help. He even shut down the entire government at one point to try and force Pelosi to go along with his border proposals- remember? He also has stated recently that he needs to be a dictator for one day in order to deal with the border. Yet now we are being told that Biden could easily deal with this crisis if he wanted to and he doesn’t need this new bill. What hypocrites you guys are.

If African-Americans opposed liberal policies they would demonstrate that by voting against Democrats. But since they consistently don’t that tells me that they reject your paternalism argument.

I am flat out right. What is happening at the border right now would not have been prevented by Obama’s policies or Trump’s and Biden can’t fix it through executive order. Biden is not responsible for either. It’s an emergency situation and has to be fixed through more stringent laws, many of which Republicans have been pushing for years , like an end to catch and release. These were in the bill being rejected. Also way more border patrol. These are temporary solutions but they’re necessary for now. Long term we need to reform our whole immigration system and address the reasons these folks are coming here. But none of this is being done because it doesn’t help Trump get elected.

Well this is the standard conservative argument; you’re not offering anything new. I appreciate some of what you’re saying but not enough to dismantle the programs we already have. I would work to improve them rather than destroy them.

Biden: the world is waiting, the world is watching. He’s right. We can’t fix the border because Republicans are afraid of Donald Trump. We can’t fund Ukraine because Republicans are afraid of Donald Trump. The American people will know and vote accordingly.

They’re spending hard earned taxpayer money. It will be completely ineffective. It’s all for show to impress people like you. I don’t think you really want a solution to this issue. I think you want the show and the feeling that we were “tough”. That’s far more emotionally satisfying.

Good question. How best should we deal with poverty? The liberal solution: you have a safety net for the poorest among us. You have programs to combat inequities, including racial inequities. And you improve education across the board. The conservative solution: You lower regulations and taxes so that small businesses have a chance to thrive. You strengthen law enforcement in order to make society safer. On this issue I’m not an either- or guy. I think my state has too many regulations and I’d like to lower taxes if I can. I’d like our communities to be safer. On the other hand, I do believe in the safety net and social programs and spending a lot on education. So it’s a mixed bag for me, probably why the politicians I like the best are business oriented Democrats like Rick Caruso.

He stopped construction on the stupid wall (it was never going to be completed anyhow.) And he ended the travel ban (thankfully.) But most of Trump’s awfulness was sadly kept in place.

The bill was mostly written and negotiated by Republicans. There are virtually no Democrat demands.

Which ones? Be specific. Which ones did he reverse the day he took office?

But it was House Republicans who insisted on tying the two items together. Biden wanted a standalone bill on funding Ukraine. Republicans said no it has to be part of the border package. And now you’re complaining about it??

Because he knows the House bill is unacceptable to Democrats so it will never become law.

The bill to impeach Mayorkis just failed by two votes. This is a major embarrassment for Mike Johnson. Nancy Pelosi never brought a vote to the floor that she thought might fail. What a joke.

In all seriousness: California certainly has its problems but we’re only going to get wealthier long term. Many reasons for this but the main one is that the United States trade with Asia is at the beginning stage, and is going to explode in the decades to come. California is at the center of that trade. We are the marketplace of the world. Trade and energy- this is the future of the world’s economy. Nothing else really matters.

I stopped here. It’s not happening. Not in Southern California anyhow. Not in most of Northern California either.

This thread seems cruel to @seafoam1. He’s probably not a bad dude. Maybe a little immature. Anyhow I didn’t vote. Nobody is insufferable to me.

Thats not the issue that’s bothering me. And I don’t mind this woman being held to a certain level of responsibility: civil. What bothers me is the prison time. This mom acted irresponsibly but she clearly did not intend for her son to go on a shooting spree. Yet she’s going to prison. I’m not comfortable with that. But I’m also not saying it’s wrong. I’m just not sure,

Well I’m not really a slippery slope kind of guy but it seems a little problematic to me. If my 16 year old son is an alcoholic and he drives while drunk and kills somebody, am I responsible if I had liquor around in my house? Is that a decent analogy?

You’re not a fan of ALL numbers. Because if you include Obama and Bush years in that list, you will discover that Trump’s policies to contain illegal immigration were completely ineffective, AND Biden’s polices have had nothing to do with the explosion that has taken place in the last few years. But those numbers wouldn’t help your cause would they?
