Looks that way right now. But a year is a long time: 1. if Trump manages somehow to bring down inflation everything is different. 2. If Trump relaxes his tariffs everything is different. 3. If Trump relaxed what ICE is doing everything could be different. However I don’t think any of these things are going to happen. I think Trump will double down, and look for distractions (war is possible) and try to paint every Democrat as a Mamdani socialist. And I think it will all blow up in his face.

So I was way off on the margin of Mamdani’s victory. Everything else is pretty much as I predicted. Big night for Democrats, no real surprises. Again I want to stress- none of this means the country is moving to the left. We remain pretty much a center right nation. Tonight is a rejection of Trump overreaching.

I think some people here are going to be really surprised when Mamdani governs like a normal, liberal NYC mayor. Most of his wilder ideas he has no power to enact. I think he’ll be fine.

I am probably going to be wrong in my projection that Mamdani will win 70% or so of the vote. That race appears to be tightening a little though he should still win pretty easily.

He’s also missing a main point here. Many people, including Hillary Clinton, admired Alinsky’s methods of community organizing, which were at the time new and very innovative. That had nothing to do with his ideology. It’s akin to someone who studies warfare admiring Erwin Rommel or Robert E Lee. That doesn’t make you a Nazi or in favor of slavery.

This exact same argument has been made in the past 150 years regarding about a dozen Latin American countries that we have meddled in militarily or otherwise. How has it worked out?

I did understand the point he was making. But the accusation is dumb and pretty offensive regardless. I was pretty bitter after last year’s election. I wrote some things about the media I shouldn’t have. Deep down I don’t believe the mainstream media is biased. But they made some mistakes for sure and I behaved like it was deliberate. I acted like a petulant child. In short I behaved like a conservative. Conservatives are the ones who always blame the media when real life doesn’t go the way they want. I succumbed to that weakness for a short time; I will try not to do so again.

Crime, especially violent crime, is caused by poverty. Specifically urban poverty. Liberal politics have nothing to do with it.

Actually I’m not excited about Jones. I predict he will win but there’s no excitement there. If I lived there I think I would abstain on voting for him. If you’re going to accuse me of such an awful thing as voting for someone who wishes for the death of children, you’ll have to come up with some examples. (And that might be difficult because I’m having trouble coming up with an example on either side.)
