Speaker of the House discussion

Also let’s be clear: the Israelis are NOT fighting for their survival. Hamas caused a lot of terror and managed to kill several thousand Israelis. But Hamas cannot destroy Israel or even come close. They don’t have the means. -

I strongly reject this point of view. I would refer you to our own history to see how much sorrow this type of argument has caused. -
Ilhan Omar breaks down in fit of rage aimed at Biden, Democrat leadership over support for Israel

They weren’t oppressed either. When there is a nationwide pandemic the role of the government is to protect as many folks as possible. -
Awful

Well it is my tribe Ya know. And don’t talk to me about programmed. I’m not the guy denying the Holocaust. Don’t you realize: how ridiculous and hateful you sound? You’re probably a decent guy in real life but your mind has clearly been twisted.

It’s not the same reason. It’s the exact opposite reason. We need to humanize Israelis AND Palestinians.

It won’t be. The federal government is not oppressing you. -

@IGotWorms mistakenly wrote that we are a democracy. But his overall point is correct, We resolve our issues at the ballot box and through free speech and peaceful protest and not through violence. Violence is unacceptable. -

I agree with the first part. Strongly disagree with the second. Politicians have benefited from their offices since the start of the republic. There’s been corruption forever. Somehow our pluralistic system still survives. -
If you’re serious (and I doubt it) the harsh restrictions on Gaza and the West Bank, the continued advancement of settlements, the treatment of Palestinians within Israel as second class citizens, various war crimes over the years, and the refusal to accept a two state solution to the Israeli/Palestinian dilemma.

Almost no American Jews hate Israel. There are many American Jews, however, who are highly critical of past and present Israeli policies towards the Palestinians, especially those of the Netanyahu government. Only morons can’t tell the difference.

[** Official President Joe Biden Thread **]
The Real timschochet replied to Rusty Syringes's topic in The Geek Club
Brit Hume lavishes praise on Biden for his speech: https://thehill.com/homenews/media/4266646-fox-news-brit-hume-praises-president-biden-speech-israel-hamas-russia-ukraine/amp/ “The best speech of his Presidency….firm and unequivocal”. -
Both sides WILL lose, and I’m sure that will make a Jew hating, Muslim hating bigot like you happy. Hamas will see their leadership and most of their organization as it currently stands destroyed. They will gain nothing for their efforts other than to place the people they claim to lead in abject misery. Countless innocent Palestinians will suffer and die. Israel will spend billions, lose many of the IDF (and likely most of the hostages), create even more enmity and hatred and will be even less safe and secure in the long run than they are now. This is a tragedy of epic proportions. But hey, given your proclivities you should be delighted and cheering it on.

Because the vast majority of Democrats disagree with Omar. Personally I don’t like many of her comments in the past. But I am also glad that there are a few people speaking up for innocent Palestinians. Someone needs to. -
Maybe tell him about your hatred of Jews? He might be a Nazi himself and give you a bonus.

I have my answer.

Did the anti-Jewish bigots and anti-Muslim bigots leave this thread yet? Or are they still here polluting the discussion?

Associated Press: The Term "Patriot" Is Appropriated By American White Nationalist Groups
The Real timschochet replied to Blue Horseshoe's topic in The Geek Club
I agree 100%. Of course freedom loving means freedom to come here (open immigration). It means a person’s right to make decisions about his or her own body in MOST cases (the right to an abortion, the right to a sex change operation, but NOT the right to refuse a vaccine in a public health crisis.) It means the right to free elections without interference by government or mobs (which means prison time for January 6.) It means the right not to be mistreated by police or white vigilantes like George Zimmerman or Kyle Rittenhouse. Seems to me that liberals these days are far more freedom loving than conservatives. And that’s why I vote Democrat. Because I am, above all else, a patriot. -

@Patented Phil the problem with your argument, as well as the articles you’re quoting, is that you are conflating criticism of Israel with anti-semitism. There is a HUGE difference between somebody who says “Jews control the media” or “wealthy Jews control the United States” and “I don’t like the way the Israeli government is treating Palestinians; I’m sympathetic to the Palestinians.” The first two views are anti-Semitic, the third is not. But you can’t, or won’t, recognize this fact. -

Your opposition to Democrats is based on policy. But this situation is based on competence. The American political system isn’t broken. At least it needn’t be. Every Democrat in the House will go along with a coalition compromise with a Republican in charge. It’s the Freedom Party extremists who won’t agree. -

You seem rather embarrassed. Both parties elect crazies. But Democrats don’t put them in positions of power. Disagree with Pelosi and Biden all you want, but the one thing you can’t deny is that they’ve been effective leaders. They get things done. Democrats don’t have people like Trump and Jim Jordan in charge. -

I edited the title again. Trying to keep it current. Although the current title is rather timeless as well. -

This is hilarious. Kevin McCarthy, nominating Jim Jordan, just called him an “effective legislator” and “great at compromise”. The House burst out laughing and the chair had to call for order.
