OK I’m going to re-enter this thread because it’s too important not to discuss. I’ll simply try to ignore the anti-Semites. To your point, Israel has just done the exact opposite. They have bombed the road to Egypt, blocking all exits for Palestinians.

Omar and Tliab and their supporters have absolutely been the target of hateful attacks and bigotry, no question about that. It didn’t help that a couple of years ago Trump said they should go back to their “own country”, demonstrating his racism and ignorance. Twitter or X since Musk took over hadn’t helped either, spreading lies and hate all over the place. And now Trump has gone back to promising a new, larger Travel Ban once he’s elected. And his fans cheer. We are living in ugly, scary times right now.

He was unable to predict that so many other Republicans would turn out to be buffoons as well.

I don’t agree with Tliab at all on this issue (and many others) but her perspective is important at this time. She is certainly anti-Israel but I wouldn’t call her comments anti-Semitic. If you want to know the difference check out the posts by CDub100 and Casual Observer in this forum.

So to recap: 1. Trump gave away classified Israeli secrets to Russia, an ally of Hamas and Iran. This is very possibly how Hamas got around Iron Dome. 2. Israel was taken by surprise because Netanyahu’s right wing agenda, strongly supported by conservatives in this country, weakened the Israeli military (just as the right wing agenda by conservatives here like Tommy Tuberville is weakening our own military.) 3. Luckily we now have Biden in charge.

Hey guys much as I would love to continue to discuss this subject, I find this CDub guy’s comments so distasteful that I really don’t want to participate. If that was his goal, mission accomplished. I’ll bow out so long as he keeps posting his hate.

Religion is certainly important but so is economics. A Palestinian living in Gaza has a hopeless existence: overcrowding, locked in, no hope of advancement, poverty, hunger. Such conditions breed extremism every time. They look across the fence and see the Israelis living in fine houses, their children well fed, attending clean schools and hospitals, restaurants, living the great life of westerners. And they’re not allowed in. Of course they’re going to hate.

The acting speaker has no power. According to what I heard (and it’s all I have to go on) he can’t even attend the Gang of 8 that responds to such matters. I have no idea if we should send special help to Israel or related issues, but the point is that we can’t until Congress meets and Congress can’t meet without a speaker. The word used by Kevin McCarthy was “hamstrung”.

No. According to a military expert I heard on the radio Israel is planning a ground invasion of Gaza in order to rescue the hostages. I believe that this would be a terrible decision and make things far worse. I would urge Israel to try to deescalate. I suspect that is what the Biden folks are doing. But I don’t know if the Israelis are in a listening mood. ETA But why am I answering a raging Jew hater? You have no legitimate part in this discussion.

No. Well maybe one guy. They’re all evil. But there did seem to be a debate about what was the worst of the worst and I kind of think that the Holocaust was the worst of the worst in terms of events, for the reasons I stated. But I also think that Stalin was the worst of the worst in terms of people. Joseph Stalin, was, IMO, the worst most evil person who ever lived with Hitler a close second.

Stalin certainly did kill lmore people. About 10 million as a result of collectivization (mostly Ukrainians,) about 4 million as a result of the Purges in the late 30s. Hitler killed about 12 million overall: 6 million Jews, and an equal number of Slavs, Russians, Poles, etc. I know less about the numbers for Mao or Pol Pot but I think they’re significantly less- Mao maybe 4 million, Pol Pot half that. But I’m going by memory so I could be off. Certainly these are the 4 most murderous people in all of history. That being said, I would argue that the Holocaust was a uniquely awful event because it was a form of industrialized murder, with the victims marched into gas chambers. The other genocides in history are not really comparable in that aspect .
