FWIW I don’t like taking down the statue, or any statues. Thomas Jefferson was one of our greatest Americans. He was also a slave owner and the worst thing he did was sell slaves south, into horrible conditions, in order to beautify Monticello. He forcibly separated families, children from parents. And he was a great man. People have to realize that historical figures are full of contradictions just like the rest of us. Trying to fit everyone into absolute modern terms of good and evil is lazy thinking. Keep the statue, point out the flaws and the greatness, and let people decide for themselves.

Right. I reported people a few times. I regret that now. It was at their urging but it wasn’t their fault. It was my fault for listening to them. However if you listen to some of the folks here they think I was going around reporting everybody and brought down that forum. That never happened. I doubt that, in the 15 or so years I posted at FBG, I reported people more than a dozen times all told.

Except that in every southern state laws were established that anyone with “negro blood” was a slave permanently, along with all of their offspring, except in special very rare circumstances (if their owner chose to free them.) This was ratified on a federal level by the Dred Scott decision which stated that black men had no rights in the USA. So yes, in this country slavery was always very much connected to race.

When did I write it was the moderators fault? I never wrote that and don’t think it. Fault for what?

I’m honestly surprised by this analysis. The only time I ever reported anyone here was when they posted personal info about me, which I think is out of bounds. Otherwise I would never report anyone. Back at FBG I reported a few people at the urging of the moderators there. In retrospect I regret that. I may be a little rude to those who are rude to me first but in general I try to be pleasant to everyone and avoid personal insults. I certainly have strong opinions and engage in discussion. I try not to troll. So I can’t fathom that I would be the cause of anything being shut down.

This isn’t over the line at all. What Texas is trying to do is over the line. And they’re not protecting their constituents they’re hurting them. IMO

Some WTO aircraft tariffs, none of the rest, unfortunately. But Trump wants a whole bunch of new ones particularly a 10% tax on all imports which would be a complete disaster. Biden at least doesn’t want that.

Well first off I didn’t sue him. But second if you mean they hate liberals more than they love him- I think you’re probably right about that. But what can I do? That’s their problem.

I don’t know crap about this case. Haven’t really followed it. All I know is that he was found guilty, by a unanimous jury, of sexual assault. And I know he’s whining about it as usual. And I know that you think he’s an alpha and are planning on voting for him again.

When I read the title I thought this would be about tariffs. But no, wrong President. (Biden hasn’t been good on tariffs but not nearly as terrible as the last guy.) This is really minor compared to that.

He’s a sexual assaulter. I’m glad he has to pay but he really deserves to be in prison.

Thank you. It says a Biden advisor told Axios they are worried about losing young voters. Obviously this is true. But you implied that Biden either told Netanyahu that directly, or that this worry was the impetus for Biden’s actions. That’s a false interpretation. Biden has real concerns about Israel’s actions as well he should. Israel appears to have no plan for victory and no plan for afterwards.

As I feared, this war has become a quagmire for Israel. They appear to be no closer to destroying Hamas than when they started, but are managing to alienate the rest of the world by indiscriminately bombing and killing civilians. There is no plan for what happens to Gaza afterwards. The point of all this was to make Israel safer and more secure and to try and prevent what happened in October from ever happening again. I would argue that none of these goals have been met, and that Israel is less safe than before.

Since you’ve been asking me for links this morning you won’t mind me asking you for a link for this, in which Biden specifically mentions losing young voters in November.

@TheNewGirl makes thoughtful posts from time to time and I think she’s well-meaning. I’m also not sure she’s a full MAGA person though she’s certainly conservative. Unfortunately she has consistently misunderstood my motives but perhaps that’s my own fault for not expressing myself clearly: To be honest with you I don’t see much of a difference between “Megatard” and “Megaturd”, lol. I also disagree with you about San Fran but that’s a different issue.
