The UN was pretty effective in its initial years: created the State of Israel, defended South Korea, etc. I won’t argue that in the years since it has earned your disdain. But I still think it’s a noble idea and necessary. It’s been a while since I read up on Ms Wilson so I’m not sure. I seem to recall she relied heavily on a Colonel House. In any event she wasn’t quite the despicable person her husband was- Woodrow was easily the worst racist President in our history.

Not really. She spent most of her time trying to punish her husband’s enemies. Perhaps if she had been willing to compromise with Republicans the USA would have joined the League of Nations and the entire history of the interwar years rewritten for the better. Who knows?

So I watched some highlights of the Senator debate the other night. My thoughts: Barbara Lee Seems nice enough but too leftist for me. In the Bernie/AOC category. I could never vote for her. Adam Schiff One of the smartest people in Congress. Honest, erudite, eloquent, certainly not a liar despite what the MAGA types think. But he’s somewhat tarnished by being unfairly portrayed by his enemies. He’d make a great senator but not my first choice. Katie Porter My first choice. Great lady and local. Moderate, creative, pro-business and pro-women’s rights. I think she’d be outstanding. It will be tough to defeat Schiff but we’ll see. Steve Garvey The lone Republican. Supports Trump. I don’t agree with most of what he said. But you will NEVER hear me say a bad word about Steve Garvey, one of my boyhood heroes and favorite Dodgers of all time. My folks had season tickets. I went to game 3 of the 1981 World Series- (a classic; Fernando pitched!) I mean come on now, it’s Steve FREAKING Garvey! Love him.

They certainly don’t. Haley is the old school Reagan type Republican that the conservative movement now rejects in this age of Trump. But that’s no stain on Nikki; it’s a stain on the conservative movement.

Biden’s who we have and he’ll get the job done. I think it’s going to be pretty decisive. My biggest concern is how the MAGA crowd handle yet another loss. There’s likely to be violence.

I’m not sure what your point is here. But of course you’re wrong. Haley has been supported by traditional Republicans who don’t like Trump- like the Koch brothers for example. There’s not many of them left in the GOP, but they’re still around and they’re certainly not “from the left.”

Inflation staying high, OR people continuing to perceive that inflation is high, remains Donald Trump’s best chance for November, along with the border issue staying bad. But I have a feeling that neither issue will seem as bad to the public in a few months.

She’s not being funded by the other party. At this point Democrats benefit by Trump being named the nominee ASAP.

He is uneducated in the current field he has chosen, which governing this country at the highest level, He has a college degree from a tremendous university but he’s shown no knowledge of American civics or history. His ignorance is stunning. Also for a man who has admittedly achieved much in business, his economic and trade ideas are simply awful. And I don’t think he understands capitalism at all. It’s the old story that if you’re good at one thing it doesn’t make you good at anything else. Trump is great at marketing, even perhaps genius at that. He also has probably the best political instincts since FDR. That I will give him.

Pelosi on MSNBC right now just killing it, explaining how Trump will be easily defeated next fall if the Dems just keep focusing on a few issues: democracy, health care, gun control, climate change, abortion. She’s so good at this, hopefully Biden takes her advice.

George W Bush a great man, a heroic soldier. A good director of the CIA, an excellent ambassador to the UN (you forget to mention that), and actually a pretty good President. But as a Vice President he did nothing, like all the others. It’s a ceremonial job for the most part.
