Years? The war was declared in September of 1939 but didn’t really kick off until May of 1940. Lend-Lease started in early 1941 but we were already helping out Britain long before. We gave them 50 destroyers in the summer of 1940. Russia didn’t enter the war until 1941 and the moment they were invaded we immediately gave them weapons and money: My facts are correct:

If current spending levels continue, the annual deficit is estimated to be 3 trillion in 10 years. 3. 90% of the deficit is due to non-discretionary spending: defense, Social Security, and Medicare (the big 3). 4. The extreme conservatives threatening a government shutdown are only demanding cuts to discretionary spending- mainly Democratic programs they don’t like. 5. Even if these conservatives get everything they want, the annual deficit will be increased to 2.8 trillion in 10 years instead of 3 trillion in 10 years- a meaningless reduction. 6. They also refuse to raise any taxes, which is the only other way to reduce the deficit. So basically this is all for show. When conservatives tell you they’re concerned about spending levels they either are being disingenuous or else they don’t really understand the above facts. Unless they also add that they are seeking to reduce spending on defense, social security, or Medicare, or willing to raise taxes.

As you write this you are supporting politicians who are seeking to cut off funds we are already spending on the issues you named, and they are willing to shut down the government unless that spending is stopped. Which you support. I’d call you a hypocrite except I suspect you’re too stupid to actually be one.

No it isn’t. We did stay out of it until Pearl Harbor in terms of military action, but we gave tons of weapons and money to Britain and Russia through Lend-Lease, same as we’re doing now. It saved them, exactly the same way we’re saving Ukraine now. But the Lindbergh-America First wackos were opposed to Lend-Lease then, just as they’re opposed to it now. We are not going to put troops on the ground. We are not going to take the place of Ukraine. This is not Vietnam. We are going to help Ukraine win.

If we were living in 1940 these same dudes would have been rooting for the Germans against England. After all the pro Nazi types back then had the exact same motto: “America First”.

I can understand being opposed to this particular policy or that one. I can even understand your opposition to our support of Ukraine, however strongly I might disagree. But I can’t understand this nihilistic “let’s blow it all up” mentality. Our economy is fragile at the moment. A government shutdown would be a serious disaster. Lots of people will be hurt.
