I haven’t moved the goalposts. I’ve always viewed my stance on immigration issues as an essentially moral one. I don’t believe we should forcibly deport millions of people. I don’t believe we should round up families or separate parents from children. I don’t believe the vast majority of those who come here without documents are criminals or bad people or mean us harm or are a source of any of our major problems. I think there’s a lot of ugly scapegoating going on, its source is bigotry, and it saddens me that so many good Americans and otherwise very bright people have fallen for this crap.

If the poll is accurate then I’m in the minority for sure. Based on education and income I’m one of the elite and I vote Democrat. But I don’t have any contempt at all for working people and I don’t want to restrict them at all. And there are ways to fight climate change without these restrictions, hence my opposition to a large part of the Green New Deal.

No we’re not talking about anything that occurred under Obama. We’re talking about a mass roundup of millions of people and deportation, including children without regard as to whether they were born here. Again I’m not going to get into the weeds of whether or not such a horrendous act is technically illegal. It should be but I have no idea and I don’t care. It’s morally reprehensible.

I’m not going to get into the weeds on this stuff. Like all Presidents, some of Biden’s appointments have been great, others not so much. But he didn’t appoint them with personal loyalty as the main concern, like a mob boss would. Thats what Trump intends.

I don’t approve of that either, and I question your statement that it was legal. Many of his actions were challenged in court and has not been adjudicated before Biden ended them. But in any event you’re wrong. Trump has stated his intention to go way beyond his actions last time on this issue. Beyond building the wall without congressional approval or funding (hence the executive orders) he means to order a mass deportation of millions of people.

I don’t agree. Not about Biden in general and certainly not about Kamala Harris.

This is the correct interpretation. In terms of policy it is, however, troubling enough. He emphasized two issues: the border and drilling for oil. Putting aside the drilling issue, it suggests that he intends to put a stop to migration from our southern border in a way that would violate existing laws protecting civil liberties and perhaps violate the Constitution. No doubt some of his supporters, and some here, approve of such thinking. For me it’s enough all by itself to reject him as a candidate.

Yeah this stuff is starting to annoy me. I think Trump will be a terrible President if he wins, far worse than last time, because he won’t have the guardrails around him. Specifically he is determined to appoint people based on personal loyalty rather than competence. I believe Trump’s stated policies on the border, on trade, on Ukraine, on drilling, will all be awful for this country (and on Ukraine and our international commitments it may lead to decades of misery.) Add that to his apparent determination to punish his enemies and his indifference to the Constitution, and I see very troublesome times ahead. I don’t, however, see an end to our form of democratic republic. And here Maddow and many others go overboard. They’re overstating the case. The case, IMO, is bad enough.

There’s no way to defeat a conspiracy theorist like Jon has become, because anything that doesn’t happen.is part of the conspiracy.

God it would be so awesome if this was true. Sorry guys I believe this is a crackpot theory. It makes no sense whatsoever that the FBI would plan and orchestrate what happened on January 6. It sounds crazy just writing it out.

What info is being covered up? I can’t fathom that there is anything that would exonerate Trump or any of the insurrectionists/rioters/oops I mean hostages.

Even if this was true, Biden’s policies are so much better that it’s not a close contest. That is, provided you are concerned about helping Ukraine, doing something about climate change, protecting women’s rights, and keeping trade and the economy grooving along.

That’s a very similar argument to one Ive made in defense of Biden over the last few years (minus the stupid part).

Many Republicans in Congress want to cut off aid to Ukraine. This appears to be the attitude of the base of the Republican Party, and MAGA types in particular. I think it’s a reasonable concern that if we cut off aid it will lead to Russia conquering Ukraine. Do you agree?

Some of you guys are just class acts all the way. But I get it: when your bigotry gets called out you lash out with personal attacks. What else do you have left? Personal introspection would be nice but that’s never gonna happen.

I expect, around here, to get this kind of pushback for my views about immigration, trans, climate, etc. I didn’t expect to get it about white pride. Goes to show I overestimated you guys once again. lol.
