My grandparents were Holocaust survivors. The rest of my extended family back then were murdered. They were murdered by Nazis, not by the German people. Unless your grandparents were SS they had nothing to do with it. And even if your grandparents were involved. Their guilt doesn’t pass on to you.

It sure would be. But- if he actually got elected under those circumstances it would mean that a majority of our electoral college wanted it. And if that’s the case, we shouldn’t pass laws to prevent it.

I’m really opposed to this effort. I believe Donald Trump is a threat to our democratic republic. But the only way to defeat him is to defeat him. The public has to reject him through the ballot box.

Per my previous comments in this thread: I’m listening to Biden right now offer off the cuff comments about the job report (which is excellent BTW). He sounds old. He slurs his words. But there is NOTHING wrong with his cognitive skills. You can tell he knows what he’s talking about. Look, many of you reading this disagree with Biden’s policies, and that’s fine. Some of you are certain he’s corrupt and if you can prove that, that’s fine too. But you guys need to stop with this idea that he is senile. It’s a falsehood, easily disprovable. It’s simply not true.

I think many of the suggestions here, particularly increasing the COLA rates and having some kind of means testing, makes a lot of sense and if presented correctly would be supported by the vast majority of Americans. Unfortunately neither party ever seems willing to address this issue,

My only disagreement with you here is that I believe you need to replace the word “liberalism” with leftism. Liberals and leftists share many of the same views on various subjects but ultimately they are opposed to each other, in the same way that conservatives are opposed to fascists. It’s to the advantage of liberals to conflate conservatism and fascism, and it’s to the advantage of conservatives to conflate liberalism and leftism/socialism/communism, but thoughtful people can and should emphasize the differences,

I would support increasing SS increases to a proper level. Would you? So far as I know most Republicans oppose such proposals because they would add to the deficit.

That’s fine with me. Except for the qualification that they shouldn’t be allowed to participate in girls sports, I really can’t see any other limitation that society should place on them.

Thank you. I read it. The behavior by Oberlin was unacceptable. It deserves to be condemned, and there appears to be no mitigating factors. Really too bad; I guess I can’t admire them anymore.

The problem with your assertion is that I don’t know who “they” is. There are members of the faculty who admitted that other members behaved badly. It’s in the Wiki article. The article also doesn’t make clear that the school approved what happened; it appears to be individual faculty members. I don’t want to condemn this institution because I have great admiration for it based on its history, including recent history. Just as it did with blacks back in the day, this school accepted both openly gay and openly trans students long before they were comfortable at other colleges. They have been at the forefront of movements like Me Too and Black Lives Matter. So there’s a lot for me to like. The action towards the bakery, and the intolerance described in the OP, do bother me. But at this point not enough to condemn what I think is a very positive institution.

I read further but I couldn’t find any reporting that they apologized. I also couldn’t find any reporting that they refused to apologize which is what you asserted. So I honestly don’t know. Based on what I read some of the school faculty behaved very badly.

FTR I do not support trans women competing in girls sports, as they can have an unfair edge. But I do support them using girls bathrooms and in all other cases being treated as girls.

Let me answer this question so there is no confusion: if a male has gender affirming care in order to become a trans female, she should be able to use girls bathrooms, including in high school. But the transformation needs to be complete (removal of male genitals.)

Because when I listen to Biden talk (like yesterday) he sounds clearheaded. I’m no doctor but he seems fine to me.
