This is largely thanks to the efforts of General Milley. Per The Divider, on two occasions Trump attempted to order an immediate pullout of all troops without any plan whatsoever or even notifying the Afghan government. Milley resisted these efforts and threatened to resign, and Trump backed down.

And it should be the issue that modern day conservatives should support, since they don’t seem to like free trade either.

Normal people convicted of a federal crime are sent immediately to prison WHILE their cases are under appeal; right? I have no idea how that is decided.

Good. Now for the next big fight: this case needs to be televised. No matter what Trump says publicly his lawyers will fight that all the way. Trump absolutely does NOT want the American people to see any of this. But it will be up to John Roberts.

I don’t think it’s helpful to label those opposed to our involvement in this war “cultists”. They have an argument. It’s not an argument that I agree with but nonetheless it’s legitimate.

This is actually correct. Trump’s nonsense regarding hydroxychloroquine and bleach were made long before the vaccines became available. I give Trump credit for Operation Warp Speed; however his overall performance during Covid was awful IMO. But hey I’m a liar so what would I know?

That’s very clearly a racist statement. Writing that you can’t have cheese and chocolate together in terms of race is a typical segregationist comment. There’s no other way to interpret this, no context that would make it acceptable,

I’m flattered that you read what I wrote. But as usual, you completely missed my point. I wasn’t arguing that Trump didn’t come up with most of those ideas; I’m arguing that Trump was OPPOSED to most of those ideas, and that he ended firing the people who made them, My overall theory is that Donald Trump was a disaster as President, not because he is conservative or populist or nativist, but because he is an incompetent narcissist, He was only saved by the guardrails of competent people around him who resisted his crazy ideas. This time around those guardrails will be gone. The quite reasonable conservative ideas that @RLLD approves of will be nowhere in sight.

Not a bad list. Interestingly Donald Trump has, to the best of my knowledge, failed to mention a single one of the above accomplishments in his current campaign. I doubt he will. One major reason is, per the book The Divider (which I highly recommend) almost all of the actions you listed were conceived by underlings, and Trump had to be talked into them, often with great reluctance, and most of these people were fired by the end of Trump’s term.

The 2nd Amendment seems to be the only amendment they’re willing to defend. In this thread the 14th Amendment is apparently invalid.

I have to agree with you here. All they have to do is say “this is awful, it doesn’t represent anything we believe, one can be a conservative without being a white supremacist, etc.” That’s not a difficult argument to make, or at least it didn’t used to be. But instead they respond by posting examples of black on black crime, and black crimes in general. It’s almost as if they want to defend the shooter in this situation. Conservatives have gone completely over the bend these days.

Can we put all this “you’re a liar” stuff aside and discuss the issues? These threads become unreadable with all the dumb name calling.

Yep I was pretty mercurial about my thoughts that summer. If I wanted to go back I could find posts where I expressed a lot of concern about Trump winning- but ai don’t want to go back. I want to go forward. My position is that Trump is very unlikely to win this time around because (a) he is a known commodity, unlike 2016, amd he is firmly disliked by around 60% of the public and (b) because the abortion issue is hurting Republican support in battleground states. There are other reasons as well but these are the two main ones. Do you agree with analysis? If you disagree, how come?

Yes this argument was made consistently back in the day by the KKK and segregationists. You’re doing a good job at imitation.

That would be the 14th Amendment. Perhaps you need to study the history of the civil rights movement and the necessity of the FBI investigating crimes in southern states.
