No disagreement. But how is your side thoughtful and careful? Have you been reading this thread? Deport millions of people, shoot them in the legs if they try to return. Your New Year’s resolution should be to offer some coherent thought in this forum. So far you have not been very successful at this. Try harder.

The phrase refutes itself. It’s a contradiction. Marxism is a form of leftism which by definition rejects liberalism.

These laws, which have nothing to do with Marxism, are mostly designed to resolve very real inequities and unjust outcomes in our justice system, many which involve race. Other reforms are essentially stopgap or creative measures intended to make up for the lack of money and resources spent in our justice system creating unnecessary and highly burdensome delays which also leads often to unjust outcomes. As a result, predictably, some of these reforms are going to produce troublesome immediate outcomes. Some will improve the system. We won’t really know which is which until after many years and long analysis. But in the meantime, it will always be the knee jerk conservative reaction to oppose any and all reforms that appear in any way to make things easier for felons or anyone caught in our justice system. These sorts of complaints can safely be ignored by thoughtful people.

Using the word “Marxist” in this context makes it meaningless. It was originally supposed to mean a group of ideas, originated by Karl Marx, that led to the workers controlling the means of production. Eventually, after the rise of Communism, it came to mean being in favor of redistribution of wealth regardless of earning power. (And, among extremists, a state dictatorship in order to enforce that redistribution.) But among foolish people like this sheriff and those who support him here, it apparently has come to mean any liberal policy which conservatives don’t like. Which isn’t surprising but really inane and dumb.

A right wing sheriff who throws around the word “Marxist” is certainly an objective source of analysis.

I don’t think you’re correct here. If the amount you pay an independent contractor exceeds $600 then you have to report it and prove that it’s a contractor, provide a W-9, etc. I do that with multitudes of contractors, But if it’s under $600 (or $300, it may have changed, doesn’t matter for me) you don’t have to report anything. You can even pay cash, which I do.

“Business model”, lol. 2-3 times a year some losers dump trash and old furniture at one of the shopping centers I manage and I have to find someone to haul it away. So I pay some day laborers to do it. It’s not easy to find people. The other day some homeless guy decided one of our centers was his personal bathroom. That I had to clean up myself, no day laborers for that. It’s a glamorous job.

I would never argue that conservatives don’t have reasonable concerns about this issue. Of course they do. But your solutions- especially since Trump came along- are completely unreasonable IMO. Mass deportation is never going to happen. Deporting anyone who is caught is never going to happen. Come up with something reasonable and Democrats will negotiate with you. Biden is willing. The leftists won’t like it but we can come up with a decent solution here.
