I want to reform Social Security. I don’t want to completely blow it up. The two ideas are not the same. If you’re for blowing it up then you’re not for reform. Which is it?

Maine’s top election official removes Trump from 2024 primary ballot
The Real timschochet replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
Probably, in retrospect, not the best use of terms. But I’m very concerned. He’s an autocrat, an idiot, a racist, with terrible ideas for the country. -
Actually you are the one being manipulated, not me. But I know you will never be convinced of that.

Toranaga: There is no right to rebel against your liege lord. Blackthorne: Unless you win. Succession is not a constitutional right. But there is an argument to be made that it is a moral right, otherwise the United States would never have been established in the first place. On the other hand, Lincoln made the argument that a democratic republic such as ours cannot long survive if we ever grant the right of succession to anyone who chooses. Ironically, during the Civil War the Confederacy attempted to crush the secession of West Virginia from the state of Virginia arguing that only states and not groups of people had the right to secede. It’s very much an open question but I side with Lincoln.

Hmm. I would like government spending reform.

Maine’s top election official removes Trump from 2024 primary ballot
The Real timschochet replied to Mike Honcho's topic in The Geek Club
I’m terrified of Trump. I can’t believe so many people are considering voting for him again. But this remains a poor decision. The key point hasn’t changed: Trump has not been charged with, much less found guilty of insurrection. There are reasonable doubts that what happened on January 6 even WAS an insurrection, rather than a spur of the moment riot (though I think it was). There are reasonable doubts that even if it was an insurrection that Trump, who did not personally commit any violence, is guilty of insurrection (though I think he is.) How then can the 14th Amendment clause apply to him? It can’t, IMO. -
Yeah I’m an idiot for thinking that fascism is nationalistic and racist. I’ve redefined it to mean those things. It’s not every respectable historian of the 20th century who has done this, only idiot leftists like me. You’re such a laughable tool.

Why Won't Democrats Protect Kids?
The Real timschochet replied to League Champion's topic in The Geek Club
It remains fascinating to me, and perhaps highly revealing, that this issue is such a dominant topic around here. More threads are devoted to the the subject of transgenderism than any other topic by far. It’s not even particularly close. And almost all of these are started by conservatives who are the ones obviously obsessed with the issue. But look at the statistics: about 1.2% to 1.8% of our population identify as transgender. Of these only about 10% have gotten the surgery or plan on it. Of these far less than half are minors. So the numbers are miniscule. Not only are the chances of any of these kids being related to you are extremely low, the chances of one of you ever encountering one of these kids is extremely low. Yet this subject is the number one topic? I suspect that at the bottom of all this lies the same motivation that spurred the anti-gay marriage movement: a deeply rooted, Calvinistic desire to express disgust for the private lives of others which conflicts with an otherwise laudatory libertarian attitude among most conservatives. -
That’s not “going full maga”. It’s actually, IMO, a reasonable choice, one that I’ve considered myself. The consequences of imprisoning Trump might be devastating to this country, and that might not be worth the price of justice in this case. Or it might be. I’m honestly torn on this question. That being said, the timing of her statement is obviously designed to change the subject from the Civil War.

"Republicans hate black people." Today's yutes really have been brainwashed by the left
The Real timschochet replied to edjr's topic in The Geek Club
I don’t believe that most Republicans hate black people. But there are problems: 1. Everytime there is an incident involving white police and young black males, conservatives side with the police. Every. Damn. Time. No matter what the circumstances most conservatives blame the black youth. In this forum the murderer of George Floyd, who was convicted by a unanimous jury, is regarded as a political prisoner. 2. The leader of the Republican Party is proposing that police be allowed to act any way they choose without consequence. There are plenty of other issues with regard to economics, voting and justice that would cause most black voters to stay alighned to the Democratic Party. But the above are, I believe the main reason that they will. -
It’s not that secret Mr. Jew hater. Jews fought on both sides of the Civil War. Some Jews owned slaves. Some tried to free them. Like everyone else, there are good and bad Jews.

Let’s demonstrate how terrible this post is: 1. Andrew Johnson, VP of the Confederacy, in explaining the reasons for the war in 1861, wrote that the main reason was slavery. The South were afraid that the Republicans would slowly strangle the Peculiar Institution. No modern historian, including those devoted to the Lost Cause, denies this, which makes your first statement completely absurd. 2. Apparently you’ve never heard of the abolitionist movement. You might want to look it up. There were thousands of white men willing to die to free black men both before and during the war and many of them did. Also, although slavery was mostly a upper class affair, many slaves were owned by middle class and some even by lower class (for example Nathan Bedford Forrest.) 3. The South left the Union for one and only one reason: the preservation of slavery. Your statement that the South didn’t need the North is probably the most absurd of all of your statements. Roughly 80% of all goods manufactured in the USA in 1860 came from northern factories. The south was hamstrung without this trade and its economy quickly crashed within months of the war starting, with mass starvation soon to follow. 4. The north had no intention to invade the south until Fort Sumter was attacked. Even after that if the south had rejoined the Union there would have been no invasion. 5. The “programmed liberal sheep” include all of our greatest Civil War historians, such as Bruce Catton, Shelby Foote, James McPhearson. You might want to read one or two of these. If you’re concerned about bias, Foote was a southerner. 6. Nikki is the complete opposite of what you wrote: not an a hole but totally wrong about this. As are you.

It’s hard to get every sentence in an argument wrong. Usually there is a kernel of truth in even the worst of these. But you have succeeded in getting everything completely wrong. Everything you wrote here is the exact opposite of the truth. Congrats?

This post is hilarious. But actually there is some truth to your first paragraph. 90% of those who fought in the Confederacy didn’t own slaves. They fought, as a rebel soldier explained after Shiloh, “because you’re here.” But the rest of your post made me chuckle. Haven’t read such a good Lost Cause screed in a while. You might ask yourself some time what is meant by “Southern rights” and what right they were defending. Carry on.

Lauren Boebert Switching Districts
The Real timschochet replied to Engorgeous George's topic in The Geek Club
Ahahahahahaha! Sorry it took me so long to respond to this but I am on vacation in Hawaii, yet another blue state where the women might be even more gorgeous than California. Sure both my wife and I have had weight issues…by California standards. We’d be considered practically svelte in whatever MAGA trailer park you cohabitate in. -
Politicians can still get in trouble for saying dumb crap…. except for Donald Trump. He’s the ultimate Teflon guy. Trump could have said that he supported slavery and wish the South had won, and his supporters still wouldn’t care. lol

Lauren Boebert Switching Districts
The Real timschochet replied to Engorgeous George's topic in The Geek Club
Once again I can tell that most of you guys don’t live in California. If you did you would not regard Boebert as a 6 even. In this state she’s more like a 2 or 3. But I guess whatever freezing dull conservative area most of you losers spend your time in, Lauren is highly desirable. -
One of the ways to distinguish right and wrong in modern history is to divide societies by those who kill innocent civilians as unintended casualties of war, and those who kill innocent civilians deliberately. Only the latter is an evil act. Some examples: the Japanese rape of Nanking was an evil act. The United States bombing Hiroshima was not an evil act. What Hamas did on Oct. 7 was an evil act. Israel’s retaliation in Gaza is not an evil act. What Putin has done in Ukraine is an evil act. If you consider yourself to be a moral person there really is no other way to look at this.

Biden should deal with the border issue, but he’ll win anyhow.
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I don’t claim to be well read on silly conspiracy stuff. It’s all BS designed for simple minds so why bother? -
Biden should deal with the border issue, but he’ll win anyhow.
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Sounds like an idiotic right wing conspiracy theory that has no bearing on reality. -

The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
If you truly understood communism you would know that restricting the movement of people between countries is a key component. You’re much closer to communism in your views about immigration than I am. But I know you don’t understand. -
Biden should deal with the border issue, but he’ll win anyhow.
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Neither one. My ideas are pretty and true. -

Not really. I make arguments sure, but I don’t keep posting a bunch of really ugly stories. -
Yeah this is exactly the same crap my hippie uncle used to say about Fidel. “Sure he’s a dictator but his criticism of capitalism is dead on”. You know what? Fock Fidel and fock Putin too.

@League Champion I really feel sorry for you. Your vision of America is such a warped and ugly place. You seem to have a terror of outsiders, minorities, immigrants, trans people. Maybe take some time off between Christmas and New Years to appreciate this great country of ours? Truly things aren’t that bad here.
