I totally get hyperbole. I don’t like it. It prevents serious discussion. And no offense to you either but I don’t think your questioning anyone else’s sophistication is a good look.

He’s making some good points. Because Trump did some good things. That doesn’t mean he was a good President. I would strongly argue that he was not.

I would dispute RLLD’s last post entirely. I believe Trump’s trade policies were, and continue to be, disastrous for this country. Especially rejecting the Trans Pacific Partnership, our best means of countering China.

I also appreciate deregulation of unnecessary red tape. But of course the key word is unnecessary. I don’t mind cutting government but let’s use a scalpel and not a hammer. All too often Trump’s approach was the latter one which can be dangerous. Case in point: the Obama administration set up, within the CDC, a section designed solely to deal with potential disease crises and make recommendations about how the federal government should proceed. Upon taking office Trump immediately disbanded it as wasteful. I don’t think that decision served us well.

This isn’t true. I think very little of Trump’s Presidency but when you post nonsense like this you don’t sound very smart: Like every President, Trump accomplished some good things. Personally I appreciate his work on prison reform, Operation Warp Speed which brought us the vaccines quickly (and thus saved thousands of lives) and the fact that he avoided new wars.

Interesting that my take in this thread resulted in your analysis but whatever. I find your 4 examples absurd and evidence that you don’t really understand liberalism. I’m not a leftist because in MOST cases, not all, I’m skeptical of top down approaches: I’m a firm believer in capitalism and that the free market usually produces the best results. But not 100% of the time. Sometimes government has to step in, as in some of the examples you brought up, but these are the exceptions to the rule not the rule. Your biggest error in political analysis is that you assume a level of rigidity that doesn’t apply to most people: I’m not a leftists but I often agree with leftists, I’m not a conservative but I often agree with conservatives: I don’t consult a guidebook.
