Illegal slaves can stay, everybody else out!
The Real timschochet replied to peenie's topic in The Geek Club
@peenie I agree with your overall sense of the hypocrisy here. But I disagree with your use of the word “slave”. It’s actually, IMO, an insult to those Americans whose ancestors were actual slaves. These people are certainly paid low wages but they are paid. And even the low level of their wages is relative since in most cases they receive far more spending power than they were would have received at home. Furthermore they are free to quit at any time. They can’t be sold, they aren’t whipped, they don’t fear death if they leave the plantation…”slave” just isn’t accurate. -
Why do liberals not understand that illegals are illegal?
The Real timschochet replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
A person can commit an illegal action. Depending on the nature of that illegal action, a person can be called a “criminal”. (Entering this country without proper papers is either a misdemeanor or a low level felony depending on circumstances and does not by itself make a person a “criminal”). A person can NEVER be “illegal” in a free society. Illegal is an act. To a call a person that is to dehumanize them. That is an aspect of a dictatorship. -
Harvard & Trump Thread: Harvard files legal challenge over Trump's ban on US entry for incoming foreign students.

I am Jewish, consider myself a Zionist, and have in the past donated money to Israel and Zionist causes and will likely do so in the future. I am also sympathetic to the Palestinians, deplore the actions of the current Israeli government, support most of the college protests against that government’s actions (depending on rhetoric and peaceful nature), strongly support free speech on our college campuses. I don’t see any contradiction here. I assure you there are many Jews who feel as I do. -

I agree with this. Trump does not; he is willing to dole out money to universities so long as they agree with his agenda. But personally I share your principle: let’s just cut off all of the ones who can afford to operate without our help. -

To your first point, I don't believe this is a new claim or a clarification of a previous claim. The “rival gang” stuff apparently never came out of any court proceeding; it was fabricated either on the internet or from a conservative news site that simply made it up. To your second point I’m glad you’re on the side of due process. Now what? Since the Trump administration has stated they have no intention of trying to get this guy back, do they deserve to be held in contempt? Do you regard this as a constitutional crisis? -

If that guy was convicted that means he got his day in court, was found guilty, and now he goes away. Why should I weep? Also to correct you because you keep repeating the same nonsense: we are not making a fuss over this one guy: we are making a fuss over the SYSTEM -

The other day you asserted that logically this guy must be a gang member since he told the court that if he was returned to his country of birth a rival gang would kill him. That logic actually made sense to me too. But now we have learned that, according to him, it wasn’t a rival gang; he was recruited to be a gang member (like all young males in his community) refused and was threatened with death. So it’s possible, if he is telling the truth about this (we don’t know) that he is not and has never been a gang member. This is why due process is so important. It’s scary to me that so many people are just willing to let it go in order to achieve a result they approve of. Perhaps you think, as so many conservatives do, that the threat of authoritarianism from Trump is exaggerated, but this sort of thing is how dictatorships begin. -

They may be forced to make a further decision. First, however, a lower court is going to have act bravely. We’ll see if that happens. -

Except that I didn’t bring up the question of public approval. It was @avoiding injuries who asserted that this was an 80-20 issue and liberals were on the wrong side. I thought that was wrong so I looked it up: I found several polls that all said the same thing. I didn’t find any polls that said differently so there was no cherry picking. I chose one and posted it. I did it to refute his assertion, but personally on an issue like this one I don’t care much about polling anyhow. If 99% of the public disagreed with me it wouldn’t affect my view which is: 1. If this dude is an undocumented alien who is also a member of a violent gang, he shouldn’t be here. Deport him and I don’t care what happens to him. 2. If he was deported by mistake, or if he didn’t get due process, that’s wrong. Everyone here, legal or illegal, deserves due process. He needs to be returned to the United States immediately, if only to get his day in court and then be deported again. 3. if the Trump administration refuses to obey the court’s instructions on this then they are in contempt of court and people need to go to jail until they comply. It’s that simple to me. -

First you’re wrong about my opinion on the first issue; you shouldn’t generalize. Second, you read what I wrote, sparky. You’d make a good Brownshirt or Blackshirt. Not an SS guy; they’re typically a little smarter (and a lot more evil.) -
I have reported two people in this forum. In both instances it was because they chose to post personal information about me that they got elsewhere. In both instances I privately asked through PM that they remove the original post; only when this didn’t happen did I report them. I suspect it was the same person with two different aliases though I’m not sure.

Yes we know. This is in keeping with many of your other views. Do you also enjoy inflicting physical violence on those afraid to fight back? (Women, children, the old, the physically frail). If so, combined with your political views you would make an ideal Brownshirt. Perhaps you should contact Tom Homan; he’s looking to hire guys like you. -

This is wrong: https://thehill.com/policy/national-security/5230288-americans-migrants-due-process-survey/amp/ 6 out of 10 Americans oppose deportation without due process, which is exactly what took place here. -

Trump defies the courts, Sends migrants to El Sal Prison
The Real timschochet replied to Ron_Artest's topic in The Geek Club
So this is what I’m hearing on the news: John Roberts thought this was a perfect time to repudiate the Trump administration for bypassing the law, and to do that he wanted a 9-0 decision. But in order to get Alito and Thomas to agree, he had to change the language from “expedite” to “facilitate”. Now Miller and Trump have taken that word, “facilitate”, and driven a Mack truck through it. Miller claims that it only means that IF El Salvador decides of their own accord to send the guy back then the USA must accommodate that, but if El Salvador does nothing then the USA need do nothing. What a mess. I see two options: 1. A lower court tacitly accepts Miller’s interpretation. I suspect this is the most likely option, because the alternative would surely create a firestorm: 2. The lower court holds the government in contempt. If they want to be really brave they can start putting people in jail (like Tom Homan). Of course the government appeals and this goes right back to the SC to explain what “facilitate” means. I’m guessing in that instance it wouldn’t be a 9-0 decision. -

While I am very much rooting against Trump and Stephen Miller on this, they may have a point. I don’t know. I wish I knew better what the Supreme Court meant by the word “facillitate”. I wish they explained it better. -
LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
To correct you: I have not stated that Trump wants to destroy our economy. I have stated that he is doing so, IMO. It is certainly not his intention. He believes that the tariffs will make us more prosperous. I do not. I also have never believed Donald Trump is evil, I don’t think he is a good person. But I reserve evil for the truly wretched among us: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Charles Manson, etc. Whatever Trump is, he’s definitely not that. -
