I don’t think this makes you transphobic. But I do think it makes you wrong. Because it DOES help resolve the underlying mental health issues. Although sometimes the lack of societal acceptance can prevent this.

Nicely said. On this point I agree with you 100%. It’s the greatest country in this history of human civilization. But it’s not a perfect union and we need to work to make it better. And when you add “it’s not racist”…well sometimes it is. And it’s important to acknowledge that and try to fix it. I will also use this opportunity to point out the difference between myself, a liberal, and a leftist. An American liberal acknowledges the problems in our society and sometimes focuses on them, but generally believes that America is awesome and that we can fix any problems we have. A leftist refuses to acknowledge anything good, focuses on the bad, and wants to tear the whole thing down (much as the MAGA types want to tear the whole thing down.)

I wish you guys would stop getting this wrong. He’s not being charged for being caught with classified documents. He’s being charged for telling the feds he didn’t have them, refusing to return them, and attempting to conceal them. If he had cooperated from the beginning there would have been no charges. He brought this on himself.

Really stupid. But pay attention, because this is the only type of discrimination white people are ever going to face in this country: not being invited to some party. The real discrimination, the serious stuff that takes place on a daily basis- involving economic disparity, education disparity, and most of all being treated worse by police and our justice system because one’s skin color is a darker shade- white people are privileged to be free of those concerns.

It is not available. Between 1880 and 1924 we had open immigration- albeit only from certain countries. Still if you were from those countries and you weren’t sick you could come here and be processed. There was no line or waiting list. Thats what I want, except that I want every country on Earth to have an equal opportunity. Despite what @Strike and others keep asserting, it’s what I’ve always wanted- my entire life. But I’m also very sympathetic to those who come here illegally. These are mostly good, mostly hard working people looking for a better life. We can’t take them all in as quickly as they come so I’m not opposed, now, to measures to stop them. When it was smaller numbers I didn’t care so much. But even now I feel terrible about it. I don’t see these folks as villains at all and it pisses me off that so many people, mostly on the right, do.

I just edited the title to reflect what is happening right now. Every Republican is voting for this. What an embarrassment this is. There is no evidence whatsoever that Biden did anything wrong. This is being done to muddy the waters to help Trump get elected. Thats all. Really shameful.

I wish he had said it we need it. I would like him better. It’s generally a true statement and pretty close to what Ronald Reagan used to say.

I love that you always think it’s some kind of insult that I watch CNN. What it actually means is that I’m better informed than you.

Biden has done little to fix our problems on this issue. We’ll see what he does now. I can’t ever support Trump’s “solutions”; I regard them as inhumane. To your first question: the problems lie not principally with our policies, but with the conditions in the countries these people are fleeing from.

Please understand that open immigration is not the same as open borders. What countries in the history of the world have benefited from open immigration? Israel. Australia. The Kingdom of Hawaii. And most of all, the USA.

This issue is tied to the border issue. Republicans are insisting on fixing the border in exchange for funding Ukraine.

And I’m glad he did. I don’t believe that reversing those policies had anything to do with increasing illegal immigration, and returning to those policies would do little to stop illegal immigration. The problem lies elsewhere.

I’ve never voted for open borders because nobody has ever campaigned for open borders. I’ve never voted for open immigration because nobody has ever campaigned for that either (but I would.) In my first election ever I voted proudly for Ronald Reagan in part because he advocated for more open immigration and I’d do so again, eagerly.

Nope. I’ve always been for controlled, regulated open immigration ala Ellis Island. Always.
