…is one of the dumbest people in America. Just trying to finish the sentence, HTH.

why do people think that others should be liked because of their skin color?
The Real timschochet replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
Why are conservatives always whining about skin color? Is it so tough to be a white man these days that everybody is a snowflake? What a bunch of pu$$ies you guys are. You’re terrified of woke, terrified of blacks and women and trannies having any kind of say in society. Get your fat a$$ back on the couch where it belongs and pipe down. -
Man you make a lot of assumptions here. When did I ever say I sided with Hamas? Hamas is evil. There is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas. On those points I agree. And, like you I stand with Israel. But that doesn’t mean that Israel hasn’t behaved badly. They have. They have contributed to this situation. And they may make things worse. And just because Hamas is evil, that doesn’t give Israel the right to commit crimes against humanity. They don’t have that right and if they do bad things they should be condemned.
-
Because it’s not as simple as that. And when you make it as simple as that you make things worse. If there is any aspect of the Trump era of politics I detest most of all, it’s the dumbing down of all ideas to in order to satisfy emotional needs. That’s what populism is all about. We don’t need to act like idiots.

I’m forced to agree unfortunately. And of course a large number of Muslims express sympathy for Hamas, or at least a reluctance to condemn them. There are reasons for this far more complicated, IMO, than a lack of moral clarity. For one thing Hamas is on THEIR SIDE (at least nominally) and as we have seen over the years it is extremely difficult, perhaps impossible, for most people to be willing to criticize their own side, ESPECIALLY in times of conflict. There is, I believe, another reason that is even more complicated but it goes to human nature: most people, given the choice, prefer leaders who fight. Among the Palestinians you have a binary choice: you’ve got Fatah, weak, corrupt, always willing to negotiate, and then you’ve got Hamas: strong, defiant, cruel and ruthless incorruptible in the same way that Martin Luther was cruel and ruthless and incorruptible. And that’s why they’re so popular.

Yes and no, but it’s too lengthy to get into. But I was referring to complaints against the Netanyahu government in particular.

Speaker of the House discussion
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Lots of reasons, among them that Trump is going to be the GOP nominee next year because you guys are such morons, the party of stupid. Nominate somebody else and I’ll stop talking about him. Another reason is that I want aid to Israel and Ukraine to go through and for the government not to shut down. And for that we need a speaker. But you morons are preventing it. -

The establishment types are going to need the Democrats help to elect a Speaker, that means they’re going to have to compromise. Or they can cave to MAGA. -
Speaker of the House discussion

From what I’m reading one of the main stumbling blocks for any potential Speaker is the election of 2020. Trump’s allies oppose Emmer because he acknowledges that Biden won in 2020, and there are enough of them to kill his chances. Other Republicans have stated that they will ONLY vote for a candidate who acknowledges that Biden won, and there are enough of them to kill any vote. -
Ilhan Omar breaks down in fit of rage aimed at Biden, Democrat leadership over support for Israel
The Real timschochet replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
First off I’m not a progressive. Never have been. I’m a Democrat, for the moment, because I side more with them than I do Republicans. I am a globalist, a capitalist, and pro-establishment. Next I am not defending corruption. I’m only suggesting that those like @jerryskids who believes that it is worse now than it was 100 or 200 years ago are not paying much attention to history. I don’t think it’s going to destroy the republic. -

Also let’s be clear: the Israelis are NOT fighting for their survival. Hamas caused a lot of terror and managed to kill several thousand Israelis. But Hamas cannot destroy Israel or even come close. They don’t have the means. -

I strongly reject this point of view. I would refer you to our own history to see how much sorrow this type of argument has caused. -

They weren’t oppressed either. When there is a nationwide pandemic the role of the government is to protect as many folks as possible. -
Awful

Well it is my tribe Ya know. And don’t talk to me about programmed. I’m not the guy denying the Holocaust. Don’t you realize: how ridiculous and hateful you sound? You’re probably a decent guy in real life but your mind has clearly been twisted.

It’s not the same reason. It’s the exact opposite reason. We need to humanize Israelis AND Palestinians.

It won’t be. The federal government is not oppressing you. -

@IGotWorms mistakenly wrote that we are a democracy. But his overall point is correct, We resolve our issues at the ballot box and through free speech and peaceful protest and not through violence. Violence is unacceptable. -

I agree with the first part. Strongly disagree with the second. Politicians have benefited from their offices since the start of the republic. There’s been corruption forever. Somehow our pluralistic system still survives. -
If you’re serious (and I doubt it) the harsh restrictions on Gaza and the West Bank, the continued advancement of settlements, the treatment of Palestinians within Israel as second class citizens, various war crimes over the years, and the refusal to accept a two state solution to the Israeli/Palestinian dilemma.
-
Almost no American Jews hate Israel. There are many American Jews, however, who are highly critical of past and present Israeli policies towards the Palestinians, especially those of the Netanyahu government. Only morons can’t tell the difference.

[** Official President Joe Biden Thread **]

Brit Hume lavishes praise on Biden for his speech: https://thehill.com/homenews/media/4266646-fox-news-brit-hume-praises-president-biden-speech-israel-hamas-russia-ukraine/amp/ “The best speech of his Presidency….firm and unequivocal”. -
Both sides WILL lose, and I’m sure that will make a Jew hating, Muslim hating bigot like you happy. Hamas will see their leadership and most of their organization as it currently stands destroyed. They will gain nothing for their efforts other than to place the people they claim to lead in abject misery. Countless innocent Palestinians will suffer and die. Israel will spend billions, lose many of the IDF (and likely most of the hostages), create even more enmity and hatred and will be even less safe and secure in the long run than they are now. This is a tragedy of epic proportions. But hey, given your proclivities you should be delighted and cheering it on.

Because the vast majority of Democrats disagree with Omar. Personally I don’t like many of her comments in the past. But I am also glad that there are a few people speaking up for innocent Palestinians. Someone needs to.
