What’s funny about your comments is that the left doesn’t need to do anything. The tarrifs are going to destroy Republican poll numbers (along with our economy.) -
LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs

Interesting that nobody seems to want to talk about this. Catastrophe is less than a week away… -

CNN economist just now: by this time next year every new car in this country will be $5,000- $10,000 more expensive. I am not trying to fear monger here. I’m just looking at what is likely to happen. We are going to face higher prices on virtually all products, which will lead to less spending and more unemployment. Those in favor of this seem to believe this is short term pain for long term prosperity. I think it’s short term pain for longer term greater pain. -

Lol “you’ve moved on”. You haven’t even begun to see the effects in your own life yet. You likely won’t for months to come. When you start to notice it will be too late for you. And me and everyone. -

These tarrifs are the biggest story right now in the news. Way more important than anything else going on in my estimation. Biggest thing since Covid and possibly bigger in terms of the long term effects on all of us. -

Japan will be economically devastated by these tariffs: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/03/27/japan-auto-industry-trump-tariffs/ Economic instability in Japan and other countries will lead to political turmoil as well. There’s going to be a lot of unforeseen consequences to this, none of them good. We are choosing, very deliberately, to upend the world order which has brought this nation great prosperity for the last 80 years. -
NPR chief admits dismissing Hunter Biden laptop story was a mistake

Funding for NPR should absolutely be cut. Not the government’s role. I don’t need or want taxpayers to fund my entertainment. -
Trump's objection to his Colorado Statehouse Portrait
The Real timschochet replied to Engorgeous George's topic in The Geek Club
Trump’s defenders always argue that none of this (his personal behavior) matters because he is a good and effective President who gets things done. I always thought this was an interesting argument when made by the Christian right, since they failed to apply it to previous Presidents, but that’s beside the point: it’s a damn good argument and I happen to agree with it. My problem with Trump is that I don’t find him to be a good and effective President who gets things done (not things I approve of anyhow.) -
NPR chief admits dismissing Hunter Biden laptop story was a mistake
The Real timschochet replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
Meaningless story. Once again: 1. The laptop story wasn’t covered up. 2. There was no censorship. 3. it wasn’t an important story which is why it wasn’t overly reported (even so we were all aware of it.) 4. It would have had no impact on the outcome of the election one way or the other. 5. Joe Biden is not guilty of any corruption. Time to let this go, fellas. There was nothing there, there still isn’t. -

It didn’t suddenly disappear. The pressure caused by Covid finally receded. I am not claiming that added security on the border doesn’t make a difference. Of course it does. But it doesn’t address the root of the problem and eventually the numbers will swell enough as to overwhelm the security again. This is inevitable. -
LIBERATION DAY: USA and China agree to a 90 day pause on most new tariffs
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Yes there’s going to be all kinds of anecdotal stories about companies coming to the U.S. investment in the U.S. etc. But they won’t come close to making up for the cost of these tariffs. According to the vast majority of economists from all sides of the political spectrum, there will be far more jobs lost than gained and the rise in prices will be extremely painful. Hope Im wrong since it appears we’re going through with this no matter what. I don’t think I am. -

Transgender runner blows out competition, he sets season records in girls' races at Oregon high school track meet 🌈
The Real timschochet replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
It’s very unfair. And- something that nobody talks about- I’m convinced it’s unfair for transgender people as well. Most transgender people aren’t athletes, much less athletes competing for championships. They just want to be left alone to live their lives. But as long as these stories occur they are going to be grouped in with these few individuals which adds to atmosphere against trans. -

Jasmine Crockett tells it like it is
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Some of these criticisms are fair. I did behave like a poor sport in the betting thing, I was really being a jerk, for which I apologized and offered to pay in full. I don’t welch. I also probably do rely on studies too much and make some claims I can’t back up. I don’t deliberately lie. I don’t pretend to be open minded, I honestly do try to be. But I have core convictions so there’s probably a limit. I also plead guilty to the ubiquitous charge. There’s about ten of us around here who are guilty of that. Anyhow @Engorgeous George I’m sorry you don’t like me. Too bad, I’m really a likable guy! Maybe we can try again at some point. -

If we were in a class on journalistic ethics, and this exact scenario was offered, I honestly don’t believe that any fault would have been found with Goldberg’s actions to date. In fact I think he has an obligation to the public to perform exactly as he has. -
Jasmine Crockett tells it like it is
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
@Engorgeous George is quite reasonable to many people here and I enjoy reading him. I don’t find him reasonable in his responses to me. I think he he has a poor opinion of me; I’ve tried to rectify that to no avail. It is what it is. But I’ll repeat that while he is certainly erudite and often witty, his views are hardly non-partisan IMO. As regards Crockett I seem to be on an island in my defense of her. But I stand by it; I honestly don’t believe she was intending to be offensive. -

It’s buffoonery. HTH. And in this case the bounds are reasonableness and common sense. Have you spent time over the last year, as I have, listening to Jasmine Crockett? If you had you would know that she would never deliberately attack or insult handicapped people. That’s not her. She fights for the underdog in our society. I don’t agree with all of her economic views (like AOC she is too leftist there for me) but she is a really good, really bright leader. Hopefully she will go far.
