    Texas flooding terrible, tragic

The main problem with your arguments is that Republicans never use a chisel. They cut with a large sword. They slash percentages. They’re not careful. Essential people always get tossed out with the unessential (usually the essential ones get tossed out first; unessentials are always good at protecting themselves.)
  2. Birthright citizenship is protected once again.

    Donald Trump blasts Bruce Springsteen

Is this the same Bruce Springsteen who is paying for all the funerals from the Texas flood?

    Here come the tariffs

He seems like a nice guy to me but unfortunately he doesn’t seem to understand economics whatsoever.
  5. That’s for the Health Department to figure out. Not ICE. ICE should stay away.
  6. So even after all of the disasters and awful decisions Trump has a chance to be a decent President: 1. He appears to finally be realizing that Putin is playing him and he’s moving to firmly support Ukraine. Better late than never. 2. He keeps talking about softening the mass deportation fiasco, limiting it only to actual violent criminals, and allowing the vast majority of undocumented immigrants to stay. 3. Most of his tariff threats have, SO FAR, been huge bluffs; everytime he hits a deadline he backs down. If these three trends continue forward, I will be satisfied. Still don’t like the guy, could never vote for him, but at least our country will continue to be moving in the right direction overall.

    Ukraine - Doomsday

Trump finally realizes he’s been played by Putin for years? Reminds me strongly of Neville Chamberlain finally waking up in March of 1939 after Hitler invaded Prague, realizing that he had been made a fool of. Trump’s got less excuse than old Neville but hey at least now we’re starting to move in the right direction.
  8. So do you. So does everyone reading this.
  9. THEY'RE ALL CRiMINALS!! DEPORt THEM ALL! it’s hard to argue with mindlessness. It’s probably not worth it to try. Best to treat it like a bad storm- just let it run its course and hope the damage isn’t too great.

Brianna Wu: If I were in charge of the trans movement...

Since you accuse me of doing this I’m sure you’ll provide an example of when I’ve done it.
  11. Much like Peter Pan and the Seven Dwarves, you apparently live in Fantasyland.
  12. When you brag about being ignorant it doesn’t make anyone seem dumb but you. HTH
  13. Nope. I employ former slaves who are now freedmen.
  14. And usually accurate. Seriously you’re a thoughtful guy and I enjoy reading your posts though of course I often disagree with you. But your biggest flaw IMO, going back a few years now, is your dismissal of all polling. Polling is a science. It’s an inexact science but a science nonetheless. It’s far more accurate in predicting results than not, something like 60- 80% of the time, if it’s one of the respectable poll companies. I know we focus on the exceptions when the polls get things wrong but that’s what they are: exceptions. The most negative study ever down of polls is from 2020 and found that they were accurate only 60% of the time: https://alumni.berkeley.edu/california-magazine/online/election-polls-are-only-60-percent-accurate-which-0-percent/ But even that is still most of the time.
  15. And let’s be clear about this: in the long run you will NEVER be able to convince people not to come here illegally because no matter how bad you think you make the conditions, they will still be infinitely better than where they’re coming from. All we’re doing right now is satisfying people who enjoy cruelty- that’s it. In the long run we are not reducing the number of undocumented immigrants- we never will, unless we (a) improve their lives in their home countries (b) and have a much more open and fair legal immigration program. And even if we could do it, even if it wasn’t terrible for our economy, it would still be as unjust and immoral as rounding up runaway slaves in the North before the Civil War (yes that is an apt and proper analogy.)
  16. No that’s not a good message to send. And it’s a terrible, frankly immoral way to send it.
  17. You really should subscribe to the Washington Post. It’s only a few dollars and right now you’re dreadfully uninformed.
  18. Sure but I’m hoping that the chamber of commerce side wins out. Guys like @Strike are such idiots when it comes to business.
  19. More good news: despite his talk to the base, Trump himself is now leaning strongly towards ending deportations for non-violent criminals: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/07/09/trump-immigration-epstein-ukraine-maga/ He gets it even if MAGA doesn’t, hopefully.

    Here come the tariffs

The good news is that no one in Wall Street is taking Trump seriously anymore; they all think he’s a total joke.
  21. Runaway slaves were criminals too per the Dred Scott decision.
  22. But Jerry, the problem isn’t with rounding up MS-13 members. It’s with rounding up other folks who aren’t. It’s with grouping them altogether. Folks like @Engorgeous George and others around here seem perfectly fine with that. I’m not. I regard it as racism.
  23. Actually it was a CNN poll, the most recent one we have: https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/06/11/politics/deportations-trump-polling-analysis Other recent polls are even more definitive. The screen shot you reposted of a broadcast was from several months ago. Once Americans realized that Trump meant to go through with deporting people who are not violent criminals, the majority turned against it, according to what I’m reading. On the other hand of you have a recent actual poll (not an Instagram screenshot) within the last month that shows otherwise I would like to see it. I’ve always accepted that the public doesn’t agree with me on this issue so it would not shock me, but I’m heartened by the change of opinion. I’m hoping that as people start to see the economic effects it will grow. Americans are often slow to do the right thing but in the end we usually do. That’s why unlike some liberals these days who are justifiably frustrated I remain optimistic and proud of my country. We’ll get there.
  24. As predicted Trump’s terrible immigration policy is beginning to really hurt the economy: https://www.politico.com/news/2025/07/08/essential-isnt-a-strong-enough-word-loss-of-foreign-workers-begins-to-bite-us-economy-00443021?utm_content=politico/magazine/Politics&utm_source=flipboard
