Israel attacks Iran UPDATE: Trump claims a cease fire among all countries

Just because we are in our Middle Ages doesn’t mean we want to live in the Middle Ages.
  2. Because of who I was responding to. But you’re welcome to go back and read my first post on this subject.
  3. Senator Padilla did not forcibly intervene. Big distinction. But it seems to me all of you guys are missing the main wrong doing here which isn’t the politicians or any of the protestors, as stupid or wrongheaded as some of them may act. It’s the ICE people. They’re acting like thugs. They’re rounding up people, some of them innocent. They’re not giving due process. They’re taking away folks who are not violent criminals. Even if many of you guys think that all of this is OK, the public does not and there’s going to be a reaction. It’s wrong.
  4. Which is why I wrote that I was troubled by it.
  5. Maybe so but I’m not on television.

    Gavin Newsom's California

Newsom showing up on Fox News and making Trump look petty and ridiculous: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/grow-up-newsom-slams-trump-after-doj-rules-can-strip-biden-era-protections-from-ca-lands.amp This is how you win future elections. Newsom is coming across as reasonable and centrist.
  7. Putting aside everything else: the use of masks by ICE officials is not a good look for Trump. It’s terrible for the politics.
  8. Peaceful resistance. I’ve condemned violent resistance in so many threads, so often, that I didn’t think it was necessary to make that distinction. The Jan 6 folks are not wrong for resisting (though of course I think their cause was wrong) they are wrong for their violence.

Israel attacks Iran UPDATE: Trump claims a cease fire among all countries

Years ago, in college, I was assigned two novels to read: 1984 by George Orwell and The Trial by Franz Kafka. Orwell’s the more famous and for decades after it was written folks on both left and right have been warning about the upcoming dictatorship. But to me Kafka was far more terrifying, because I found it far more plausible: the idea that there is no authority, no reason for anything that happens, and that the ultimate decider of our affairs is whim and chaos. I view Donald Trump as the epitome of this: he seems to embrace it.

Are you buying into the anti-Semitism too? You a ZOG guy?

Israel attacks Iran UPDATE: Trump claims a cease fire among all countries

Hey @RLLD I don’t think you lied here and i don’t think you lie in general. But I DO think you succumbed here, perhaps inadvertently, to something you’re far too guilty of: you give Trump too much credit. You constantly seem to assume that there is some thoughtful design to his actions. You’re not the only one of course; plenty of both his admirers and critics do the same thing. But Donald Trump is not playing 5D chess to our benefit, nor is he scheming to turn us into a dictatorship. The truth is, in some ways, much more pathetic yet also much scarier: Trump has NO convictions, no plan, no vision. Everything he says and does is completely on the spur of the moment.

Twenty Six Threads About Fawking Political Threads On The Main Page

And YOU are required to read them all.
  13. The judge asked if there is ANY instance in which a court can challenge the President’s ability to call out the military or National Guard. Trump’s attorney: No. Never. It’s the President’s sole decision not subject to review.
  14. Serious question: is there EVER, in your mind, a situation in which it’s justifiable to resist authority?
  15. Javohl, mein herr! Sieg heil! When the authorities behave in an immoral fashion, the public has a duty and moral right to resist. Asking to see a warrant is perfectly justified.
  16. The Trump administration is lying in court right now. They are claiming that Trump had to call out the National Guard because he was prevented from carrying out the law by a “violent insurrection” in Los Angeles. Just a complete fabrication.
  17. It’s a great idea. Let’s do it.

    Gavin Newsom's California

It’s incredibly ironic that as I write this there is a live court case being fought in which Newsom is defending the state of California from a federal dictatorship, and yet some of you here are actually accusing Newsom himself of being a dictator. Only in the bizarro world of this forum where everything is twisted….
  19. I dunno. I like that the guy asked to see a warrant ( @Hardcore troubadour’s idiocy notwithstanding he has every right to do so, so does everyone). I don’t like that he grabbed the guy. I don’t like ICE always acting like Gestapo thugs. None of this is a legal opinion.

    Gavin Newsom's California

He believes the legislature gives him the power to act otherwise. That doesn’t make him a dictator. It’s up to the courts to decide who’s right. So long as Newsom ultimately obeys the courts we’re fine. That’s exactly what I wrote about Trump as well. It’s only if you ignore the courts that it gets to dictator status.

Again it depends on the issue. It doesn’t always allow the voters to override the legislature. Sometimes, not always. It’s for the courts to decide.
