I have no idea why anyone would find it disgusting. When my grandparents came here the Holocaust was over. They were escaping Communism and they came here for a better life. That is why most people come here. I’m sympathetic to such people and I’ve never quite understood why others wouldn’t be.

My grandparents and my dad survived. They escaped from Germany to Romania and lived there as refugees until 1944. Then they escaped into the forest outside Bucharest, They lived hiding in the forest for over a year. When they came out my grandfather weighed 72 pounds. But my both my grandparents lost their entire families, over 20 relatives I think. My dad was 6 years old when he came out of the forest. My grandparents wandered to Vienna but like Berlin it was occupied by the four powers and my grandparents were in the Communist zone. My grandparents snuck across to the American zone- they would have been shot by the Russians had they been caught- they were, quite literally, undocumented immigrants. They came to this country with no papers. This fact probably plays a role in my deep feelings about this subject.

It would make things easier if you guys were intellectually honest: your real goal here is to suppress votes. The more voter restrictions you have, the less likely it is that poorer people will bother to vote, particularly brown and black people. That means Democrats.

Well this part I don’t agree with you on. If Trump tries to pressure Zelenskyy into accepting a dishonorable deal, and then threatens to cut off aid or actually does it if Zelenskyy refuses, then no Trump would not deserve to be celebrated, he would deserve to be excoriated. But let’s see how this plays out.

One small correction: he hasn’t. Trump wants it to happen, and it would be a great thing if it does, but they haven’t agreed to this yet. Putin’s position as of this morning was no meeting with Zelenskyy unless Russia’s demands are met beforehand. There’s no indication that has changed. Maybe it will.

Yep. Putting aside your terminology I can’t disagree with anything you’ve written. If it turns out like you’ve described it will be a tremendous achievement.

So I’m kind of hopeful at this point. I know I’m always a sucker for talk but I like what I’ve heard. If a deal is actually reached that is honorable and Ukraine can accept, that will be tremendous news and I would be willing to give Trump most of the credit. Not that what I think matters to anyone but myself but I don’t particularly enjoy rooting against my President. I would frankly love to be able to say for the rest of my life regarding Trump “didn’t vote for him, didn’t like him, thought he was mostly a terrible President- but he DID achieve a peace in the Ukraine war and that was a tremendous accomplish and it’s a redeeming factor.” But we’ll see.
