Yes it’s certainly a flaw in Democratic thinking. But Republicans aren’t any better, supporting a President determined to artificially inflate prices through tariffs for no good reason. Earlier in this thread I made the connection between minimum wage and tariffs, how both rely on illogical thinking. And you can add to this the attempt to do away with undocumented workers as well. Sadly there appears to be no leaders on either side who believe in capitalism any longer.

They really don’t. And you should know that every major libertarian think tank, from the Cato Institute to the Reason Foundation, favors open immigration and amnesty for most of the undocumented people already here.

Could be. But that’s a woman’s personal decision (or it should be.) The state shouldn’t be involved. The state shouldn’t be deporting nonviolent people. In both instances I am taking a consistent libertarian position: leave people alone or make their own decisions.

Well Im optimistic for slightly different reasons than you. I think we’re going to ultimately reject Trump and MAGA and get back to free trade, globalism, and diversity and THAT will lead to prosperity.

I just don’t get people who are rooting against Zelensky and for Putin. I mean I can understand not wanting us to be involved- I don’t agree but I can understand. But to root against Zelensky? To want him to lose this war? There’s something wrong with you.

If you truly think that Trump is doing a good job negotiating here then you are somebody I would like to make a deal with.

No I’m serious. What was his point? The next human genius, the guy who changes the world, (think Thomas Edison or Albert Einstein or Bill Gates) could come from anywhere, any culture. Maybe the kid deported was that genius. Maybe the fact that this kid has to go back to a sh!thole country without the opportunities we have here will doom him or her and humanity will have lost what could have been. It’s something to think about.

It IS sad. No matter what happens from here, the result of the 2024 Presidential election will be a low point in our history. But I am optimistic about the future.

He had a high opinion of Republicans and constantly assured me that they were far too good to ever nominate a man like Donald Trump. Then he believed that the American people were far too decent to ever elect a man like Donald Trump. He suffered two great betrayals that year.

@TrailGuy seems reasonable to me. He’s offering the same criticism that a lot of the nation is offering. He and I are in the minority here for sure but not necessarily in the general public. I sense a lot of buyer’s remorse is starting to take place. People voted for Trump to lower prices and secure the border, not all this other stuff.

Not sure what the farm bill will do but I do know that the tariffs on Mexico and Canada are coming shortly and I expect all supermarket prices to rise further and rapidly.

But @jerryskids criticism of me was correct in this instance. I had no special knowledge that Musk or DOGE was involved (certainly I was unaware of what you have described) and I shouldn’t have assumed.

OK fair enough. I never bought into the Hunter Biden stuff so I can buy into the idea that this was done by the FAA without any connection to DOGE and perhaps Starlink is simply cheaper or more efficient or whatever. Thats reasonable and I can accept it. Truth be told I don’t usually buy into corruption stories. (I do think that Jared Kushner-Saudi was major corruption however). That being said, the timing is unfortunate. It’s not a good look.

We really don’t know because it’s impossible to verify anything DOGE says until a few days later and very often it turns out to be a lie (which is why Fox was careful to title the article “Doge says”. They might as well have titled it “Simon says”. But even if it it’s true, why did you post it in reponse to the lie about Ebola? What does one have to do with the other?

You’re right she didn’t say they should all be fired. But what she said was pretty dumb anyhow don’t you think? Or do you agree with her implication that most federal employees are lazy and worthless and don’t work “real” jobs?

I can’t speak for you seafoam1. Somehow, despite the fact that you share the political views of most of the folks here you manage to get voted the most annoying poster on a consistent basis.
