I didn’t respond because after I read it the first time I was exasperated and exhausted. Exasperated because it’s such a lame argument. If you choose to direct or limit government funding based on speech you find acceptable or unacceptable, of COURSE that’s a form of censorship. Completely irrational to argue otherwise. And the issue of woman’s sports is totally irrelevant, has nothing to do with the topic. Exhausted because posts like yours make it pointless to discuss these issues with you further.

After reading the interview, my impression is that Trump has definite ideas but no grasp of specifics. If he is elected again I have a feeling that Stephen Miller will be the one directing the domestic agenda. Not that this would be any kind of improvement…

No. I don’t believe it’s OK to censor ANY of those things. But see I know in all of those cases you’re referring to social media or to the news media. For me, it’s only wrong when the government gets involved. Private entities are allowed to do what they want. For example Yale is a private university. If it wants to clamp down on freedom of speech it has every right. UCLA is a public university. It does not have the right to clamp down. Government vs private, makes all the difference.

FTR, Hamas is evil and I certainly don’t love them. What I would love is to see them destroyed. And I very much support the state of Israel. I have friends and family there. What does any of this have to do with free speech?

I think it’s a good thing for America to take in the world’s refugees. Those that suffer, who flee the worst the rest of mankind has to offer. We were established as a nation for this purpose. To me this is not a liberal or conservative thing. It’s an American thing. My grandparents were refugees who fled the Nazis and Communists. I am alive and free because this nation was kind and generous to my grandparents. I want my grandchildren to live in a nation that is kind and generous.

Unfortunately (for me anyhow) this will likely help Trump. What most people forget about the 60s college protests is that they were never popular with the American public- that’s why Nixon won in 1968, and after Kent State Nixon won in a landslide in 1972. The public sees stuff like this and they demand law and order and tough treatment. In a contest between Biden and Trump, that means Trump. Hope to hell I’m wrong about this…

This accusation seems so ironic to me. On just about every issue that I debate with conservatives, including this one, I am always on the side of nuance. It is conservatives, including most of those in this forum, who prefer to see the world in black and white terms. And as I wrote, that includes this issue. Other than your last post I challenge you to find anyone that has disagreed with me in this thread who has relied on any nuance whatsoever. 99% of the posts here back the police regardless of the details.
