Inflation was going down under Biden, now it’s going back up
easilyscan replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I don't believe gasoline is very high on the list of inflationary items we should be concerned about. A newspaper in my state did a story way back in 2006. What things cost then vs now. A gallon of gas was $1.25 in 1980 & $2.40 in 2006. Adjusted for inflation, at that time it was down 22% https://www.imagebam.com/view/MEN8A6T 17 years later, the average price is $3.82 & only accounts for around 3% of the average family's budget. https://www.imagebam.com/view/MEN8A8I We all like to see the price of our homes go up, but there's residual effects. Higher property taxes, higher homeowners insurance & at today's prices, a substantial % of families simply can't afford one. Rent is also obscenely high. The result of that has been a 15 year period of insatiable demand for low income/affordable housing. We all know who pays for that. Throw in the fact that the federal reserve (Jerome Powell) finally grew a pair and saw the damage done by close to a decade of zero interest rates, and you've got a real mess. So I'd say housing is the biggest, but certainly not the only issue. Seems almost everything is insanely priced right now. Had to have a root canal 2 months ago. $340 for the prep by my regular dentist, $2400 for the root canal by a specialist, & another $400 for a permanent crown. Around this time last year I had to replace my Maytag washer and dryer. I suppose I could've got by cheaper, but I wanted to do the right thing. So I purchased a Speed Queen set that are made right here in the US (Wisconsin) just under 3K. Inflation is a biotch -

Lawsuit says police stood by for 13 minutes as her 30-year-old son drowned in the Tennessee River

The problems your father ran into are only going to become more frequent as online gambling is approved in more and more states. If I ever wanted to start betting on sports again, I'd do it the old-fashioned way, through a bookie. Sorry to hear about your mother. As for the lions, they ain't got nothing on the Vikings, pretty sure this will be their 62nd year of not finding the promised land.

I think it's because the moderators allow members to express their feelings, even when it gets a little edgy. If there's someone that you despise, instead of whining to the moderators, just put them on ignore. That's the way it should be. I've subscribed to the online edition of one of the newspapers in my state for 8 years now. About 2 years ago they changed the comments administrator from Disqus to another whose name escapes me. The censorship started out very subtly. 'deactivating' any post that contained a word like 'thug' & eventually evolved into literally deactivating any post that didn't align with the far left. About a month ago, they completely removed comments. When my subscription ends in September, I won't be renewing. I guess time will tell if it was a smart move on their part.

Had zero interest until the Timberwolves were born in 1989. My interest waned shortly thereafter when I saw they were going to be another Vikings/North Stars. These 3 have combined for 121 seasons without a title.

I think I've had 8 interactions with LE. 6 of the officers were great (let me go when I could've been charged/ticketed) One of the other 2 was a male officer who pulled me over & told me my headlights were out of adjustment. At one point he told me to get in the back of the car. Strange thing about that is, the entire backseat was filled with empty fast food bags. I almost literally had to lay on my side because the bags were stuffed tight right up to the level of the seat on both sides. Eventually he gave me a fix it ticket. The other was profiling. Not because of the color of my skin, but because of the time day. Was working 6 PM to 6 AM. Can't remember the reason why, but I needed to go home. At around 12:15 AM, in a residential neighborhood, & about half a block from home, a female officer pulled me over. She walked up to the car and told me she estimated my speed at 39 mph. (posted speed limit 30) I told her I was going 31 at most, she said OK, just trying to keep the neighborhood safe. This gunt wanted nothing more than to get her snout in my car & hopefully find I had been drinking. This was at least 15 years ago and I regret not reporting it/her. Cops are like any other group/business. The vast majority are good, but the few that aren't, fock it up for everyone.

If memory serves, the whole incident originated when he tried to use 'funny money' earlier. What an outstanding citizen. -
A derecho style storm that came through around 12:15 AM Friday. Lots of horizontal rain. The highest gust reported was 90 mph. Gave me a whole new level of respect for people that have to live through hurricanes. The roar from the wind & constant thunder was the worst part of it. Not easy to see, but there's debris being thrown against the side of the building across the street in the last clip. (Bottom Left) *have the volume turned up high*

Cillian Murphy also did the full frontal thing in 28 days later. Totally unnecessary to show a guys hog in a movie.
