    Welfare

I doubt those people in question are making it up for views, but in this day & age, I suppose anything is possible ? They certainly fit the stereotype & know how to talk the ebonic talk. https://www.imagebam.com/view/MEYWLM8 I'm fairly certain that the vast majority of people at this forum who are relatively well off, have no problem helping those in need for the greater good. Unfortunately, those in need are growing substantially every year. Another problem is that it doesn't just end with welfare & food stamps. They most likely reside in subsidized low income/affordable housing. They most likely get back a refund from the federal government every year, in excess of any federal income taxes they paid. Shrinking tax base. Was @ a bar a couple years ago. About 10 of us were there. One of the guys said he was "shacking up" with a woman who was already on all types of government assistance. He went on to say that she worked part time at UPS, & was offered a full-time position. Someone asked him if she took it ? "hell no, we'd lose too many bennies" one of the guys at the table blew up and said he should be turned in. I felt the same way, just didn't have the guts to say it. The guy and the woman he was shacked up with were both white. Only pointing that out to show that it's not just people of color taking advantage of the system. As long as people hear/see about cases like that, those that are in a position that they need help through no fault of their own, are going to be looked down upon by many. My theory is simple: There's too many people in our country for the economy that exists today to support. All kinds of jobs out there, but let's face it, the vast majority of them don't pay well enough for a person or family to support themselves what with the price of housing, rent, health insurance, homeowners insurance, food, etc. Have no way to substantiate the following, but I read an article that pointed out some startling statistics. I only copied the text & didn't include the date or the author. I would guess the article was around 2015. People talk about bubbles, but the real bubble is the entire global economy. Today, a staggering 18 children are born for every 1 job created. In 1980 that figure was only 3 to 1. So not only are jobs becoming more scarce, another problem is lack of savings. I honestly don't think people grasp the magnitude of problems the "new one world" economy has produced. If that wasn't bad enough, during that time, 10's of millions of poor non-English-speaking people have been allowed to enter the country. I don't know what the answer is, but I have a feeling it's going to end badly.

Some *UNT was complaining about plastic bags on next-door.com recently. Informed her that all the grocery stores in town have plastic bag recycle points. Too many Americans are lazy and stupid.

I'm with you. But there's still a substantial number of people who rely on the mail, so I wouldn't be for eliminating the USPS. I'd certainly be in favor of dropping mail delivery down to say 4 days a week. Of course that's never going to happen because, in case you missed it, earlier in this thread, I mentioned that sometime within the last 15 years the postmaster general went before Congress and practically begged to allow them to eliminate Saturday delivery, and they said no. Probably because the USPS is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government & Government never likes to lay off any of their own people. So we the taxpayers, will continue with the current system, & bail out the USPS pension every couple of years. Business as usual in the US.

I wonder what those scientists would've thought back in the 1930s The drought of the 1930s, also known as the Dust Bowl, lasted nearly a decade, spanning roughly from 1930 to 1940, with the most severe drought periods occurring in 1934, 1936, and 1939-1940; impacting the Great Plains region with extreme drought conditions for almost a decade.

    Wanna Get Away ?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/2-bodies-found-landing-gear-133332532.html Though its most recent flight was from New York to Fort Lauderdale, the jet had been in both Kingston, Jamaica, and Salt Lake City, Utah, earlier on Monday, according to the flight tracking service FlightAware.com. Authorities haven’t said where they think the people got into the wheel well.

    Welfare

About 15 years ago, I heard a guy tell this story. He became friends with a homeless guy (alcoholic) He'd go to the grocery store with him, pick out $150 worth of the food items he liked, have the guy use his snap card to pay, & when they got outside, he'd give the guy $75 which he could then use to purchase alcohol. Helluva system. Astounding that they make it even easier in Massachusetts. Then again, what should we expect from the land of barney frank.

The price for a month in a nursing home is absolutely insane. Thankfully, my parents (who weren't rich btw) were responsible and started paying for nursing home/assisted-living insurance back in 2001.
  22. That reminded me of this........ “Churchill: "Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?" Socialite: "My goodness, Mr. Churchill... Well, I suppose... we would have to discuss terms, of course... " Churchill: "Would you sleep with me for 5 pounds?" Socialite: "Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!" Churchill: "Madam, we've already established that. Now we’re haggling about the price” ― Winston S. Churchill
