I don't think they are "doubling down" on stupid. I think they realize they focked up with that contract and aren't messing around to fix things now, even at a net loss. Penix is the guy. He is right now their future. And to give them further credit, they set things up to Cousins only to be on the team for 2 years and then they can trade away or eat some of the cost to have Penix learn for a couple years on the bench. Cousins failed them (or they failed themselves) but whatever, they are on the right track and it's now into next year.
