Are you getting paid hourly or yearly salary? My point is, if you get paid salary, it is what it is if you deliver on time everything that is expected of you. That is what they are asking for. That's the job. But if you get paid hourly, are you basically asking for businesses to pay more hourly for less work returned. Just tell them you prefer to be a part time employee. At least lay it out like that.

What's with pay cuts? It's either you get paid salary, which means someone values you for that much, or you get paid hourly and that's self explanitory. Why are you saying someone should get 40 hours of pay for 32 hours of effort?

So do people simply want to be paid for 40 hours of work for 25 hours of actual work? Or do they just want a part time job? They need to make up their minds. The costs of all the progress you mention needs to come into play. Technology is not cheap. It costs more.

Nice. I traveled 600 miles in each direction every week to do consulting work with DTE. 48 weeks a year for about 3.5 years. Detroit is surreal. I've never been in a city (downtown) that big that is so quiet even at 9am on a weekday.

I don't know. I guess owners, CEOs, investors could come back and say well, we set up the business, take on a lot of liability, bought/rent the property, manage the human resources, etc, to provide you with a way to support your family and make a living, so that way more offsets your 20 minute commute and the couple bucks you spend on gas.

I have done weekly travel for more than 14 years to other states and I have done local and remote work all in the same company as a consultant. There are companies that want your presence on the client site. There are tons of jobs that need you in person. It's up to the company and their wants for how they run things. If you don't like, go get a job somewhere else.

I think part of finding a job is about location. If you are new in a field and are trying to establish yourself, pay your dues. Move closer or suck it up. You haven't earned anything yet. Once you establish yourself as a leader, a technical guru, a stellar salesman, etc...then you can demand the "cater to me" approach. Until then, screw it.

If everyone liked threads about "what do you eat for breakfast?" then they would dominate the board. But they just don't.

And what's with the hating work? It's a natural part of life. Ups and downs are part of all of life. If you are whining constantly about work to that level, you are doomed to whining about everything in life. I hit a wall at certain times at a few jobs, but then just moved on. The chick in that video looks new to the actual workforce. Don't stick your dlck in crazy, whiny, and lazy.
