Advanced Technology: Sophisticated electronics, infotainment, and driver-assistance systems. Specialized Parts: Often proprietary, expensive, and only available from dealerships. Complex Systems: Air suspension (Land Rover), Quattro AWD (Audi), turbo engines (BMW). Labor Costs: Technicians need specialized training, increasing hourly rates. I can't remember specifically what one of their problems was as this was a couple years back, but the guy's car needed a small specific part which was inexpensive in itself, but they quoted him $5000 to change it out. He said they needed to remove the engine along with a something other shlt they needed to dig through. The guy was determined to fix it himself. He was rigging up a pulley system to help him remove the engine at the time I was talking to him. I never asked him what year the car was though.
