They have the authority to do traffic stops and question people and keep people out of their way while they do their jobs. They also are allowed to detain people. A cop was parked on the street about 30 ft from a stop sign. I found out he running license plates on every car that drives by and stops at the stop sign. When he ran my plates he put in a wrong number and it showed as my registration was expired. So he pulled me over. I didn't yell and scream at the guy and whine that he is out to get me. I didn't call him names or try to run. He saw his mistake and said he put the wrong plate number in and said I could go. No apology. And I didn't get all pissy about it. I just left.
