Yes, for sure, but calling it an "absolute victory" or an "absolute failure" is not really how these things work. It takes time to get to the ultimate goal and sometimes you take two steps forward, sometimes it's two steps back but as long as you're moving in the right direction - no matter how slight - it's still progress. Maybe that's the better term - "progress". Some people won't ever give Trump credit and some people always give Trump credit. That's partisan hooey. It's small steps. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take so I give Trump credit for at least trying to move the needle.

Well, I won't call it a "success" until the war actually ends but, again, that doesn't mean you stop trying. If having this meeting moved the needle in the direction of it ending soon, then maybe we can say it was a small success but no one can claim victory until this ends.

Yeah, the red carpet thing is simply absurd. One way to make sure nothing gets accomplished it to be rude and uncivil to the parties involved. Imagine if Roosevelt was rude and uncivil to Stalin back in WW2. As far as nothing being accomplished - well, these things take time and you won't always succeed the first, second or maybe even third time but that doesn't mean you stop having them. If at first you don't succeed, get up and try again. Expecting everything to go perfect every single time is a standard no one can meet.

War crimes are certainly not cool, but there wouldn't be any had Russian not invaded. I'm no fan of Putin nor do I favor just giving loads of $$$ to Ukraine, but Russia brought this on themselves and this is a Europe issue, not an American issue.
