Over inflated budgets has definitely been a complaint lodged at current Disney movies. In 2002 they made the first version of the film for 90 million which adjusted for inflation is about 153 million. So proportionally they spent less to make the film and it took in way less. That is more the problem. 2019 Disney released Aladdin and Lion King which were equally looked at as "Who the hell asked for live action retellings of these films?" They did 1.054 billion and 1.663 billion at the worldwide box office respectively. But the general dialogue was still kind of "Why was this necessary?" Little Mermaid furthered that and this time didn't do as well because it became a thing about a black girl playing Ariel and not about "Who asked for this?" As to the costs- the cost skyrockets because of all the FX shots that go into it. Basically every movement in the background or changing certain things (a notable example from a different film is the 1999 film The Mummy where they needed to change stuff from daytime to nighttime so they had to visual effect the sun out) that runs up a cost after a while. I would highly recommend a podcast called What Went Wrong which talks about famously troubled movie productions to get a sense of how quickly costs on films can skyrocket for even the most mundane stuff.

I bolded what Turley used in his piece for TheHill which FOXNews quotes. You- and anyone- can see that there is far more context here than what he purports. Additionally, anyone can see the quote talks about not solely social issues but also about distribution models (essentially "we" need to deliver content that people want to go see in theaters, or drives them to streaming, or the like). it also talks about sports rights fees, rides at amusement parks, and being able to read ahead of what the curve currently is at. It's simple to just say "WOKE" because people will hook into it but they are saying way more than that in this actual quote and they aren't really shying away from what they said but instead saying it is as much a customer's perception of what their position is. They aren't really saying woke hurt them despite what the headline wants people to believe.

This is why even though we have disagreed many times I often can appreciate what you say because you can speak in a very measured manner. As to the parent situation- the term used often is "snowplow parenting." It's the idea that (and I'm quoting here): seeks to remove all obstacles from a child’s path so they don’t experience pain, failure, or discomfort. Schools then acquiesce to it because 1.) you end up getting into legal battles if you don't and 2.) people don't support schools if they would try to go otherwise, so why bother?
