Yup. I can understand liking some aspects of- or even all of- the positions. It's the weird hero worship of the man himself that is bizarre.

I mean...very little of what the people in the decision making process- either at a national, state, or local level has any idea about what actually helps inside the classroom. But I could definitely see some teacher reading a book like this to try to "understand" an LGBTQ student.....you know as opposed to just trying to understand any student regardless of orientation.

It's understandable why Utilt99 (and his idiot brethren I guess) would freak out about someone being recommended to read a book. Dude hasn't read a book in 50 years. The book is designed to help teachers understand some of the kids they might have in class. Also, it's not like the NEA sent some big e-mail to their members suggesting reading the book. Also, I'll treat this the same way I treat Netflix recommending a movie I have no interest in seeing.

Once again on the licensing deals: The number for the licensing deals was estimated between 40 and 80 million. I'm not making that up- it's out there. Maybe if they said a "reported" number you'd slurp it up. The licensing deals offset some of the marketing spend. So the number isn't exactly 390 (and I'm glad you were able to dust off your calculator to finally do the correct math) it's lower. But please keep making up stuff I said to try and win. Take away at the least 40 million in the licensing deals and you have 350. The movie has made 501 million worldwide. I said 200-250 million on the movie meaning the number above the addition of the production budget + marketing. They are at 151 million right now. 200 has an outside chance. As I also said to RLLD- the movie will not be looked at as a major bust or hit. it will just be a movie that existed.

It's a combination of things. People are going to inevitably compare Little Mermaid to something like Lion King which made a crapload of money but ignore a few other factors like: - Lion King seems to be a movie far more nostalgic to people than Little Mermaid. - The COVID pandemic changed the way people consumed movies considering they know if they want to see it they can just wait like 2-3 months and it will be on Disney+ - There was grumbling about the racial nature of casting Berry in the lead role. As to the movie business on the whole- you are pretty much right. A company like Disney makes the big movies so they can (hopefully) fund smaller ones.

Here's what's funny to me at this point in this Little Mermaid discussion. It's pretty close to a point where it won't be looked at as a miss or hit and just a movie that existed in 2023.

Additionally- AND AS I SAID BEFORE- even if you take those numbers as exact you also need to then factor in all the licensing deals and stuff they signed which helps offset the cost of the marketing spend to some degree. And- AS I SAID BEFORE- those numbers are anywhere between 40-80 million dollars reportedly. So taking the low number as the official one, and taking the "reported" number as official that would put you at about 100 million net on the marketing spend so a cost of 350 million all told. The movie is now at 501 million worldwide so that gets them to 151 million in profit (that of course gets split among people- again please find where I said otherwise) which gives them an outside chance at the 200-250 million in profit I predicted.
