For anyone who wants real facts: The bill was introduced in January of 2023. HR82 of the 118th Congress. It passed the House November 12th of 2024. It passed the Senate on December 21st of 2024. It was signed into law on January 5th, 2025 by President Joe Biden. The OP wants to make it a Trump thing because he desperately wants Trump to use his tongue as toilet paper.

Actually I think the bench for Democrats is deeper than the poll shows. However, it is notable that the people who most are represented in that poll are the people that have been targeted as the enemy by the right. AOC, Kamala, Bernie, Pelosi, Schumer.... Of that list I do think Jeffries has a shot at the nomination. Even though I doubt that the general public would go for a west coast used car salesman as the President- especially following the East coast used car salesman- I'd imagine Newsom gets some run (and you can already see him playing to the middle and right to drum support). Deeper down that list though I can see Andy Beshear, Josh Shapiro, Ruben Gallego, JB Pritzker, maybe Gretchen Whitmer getting a chance. Does that mean any of them are without issues? Of course not. But every politician comes with baggage- even Trump. I doubt it goes to AOC if for no other reason than Democrats get this stupid idea about people waiting their turn and I can't imagine they are going to turn to 38 year old AOC. I do think they'd be wise to maybe listen to her a little as to how to reach out to younger voters again because she seems to do fine there. And I do think that she has proven that she is not as far left as people want to paint her as- certainly when compared to the rest of the dummies in "The Squad" nonsense. I do think the survey shows that compared to 2017 the party is a little more all over the place as opposed to being a cohesive unit. Obama held dominance in the party in 2017 and he was far more to the middle than what has been painted of Democrats. Also, he is one who kept trying to push Democrats back to the middle in the last election and they kept ignoring him. The most interesting thing for Democrats in 2028 will be- who will they rally behind as the nominee because you can see the party is fractured a little in the public eye. The intriguing thing for Republicans will be- who does Trump get behind and will that be who the other leaders of the party and constituents get behind. The Republicans have had issues in running people like Trump but who are not Trump in elections and it doesn't usually go well. Basically- people want Trump doing Trump things, not Kari Lake, or Dr. Oz play acting Trump. Will Trump throw his weight behind JD Vance? I don't know if that's a given. Are the rumors true that Donald Jr. wants to run for President? If so, does Trump throw his support there leading to a rupture in the party.
