L.A. and nationwide ICE raids/protests thread

Define "impeding law enforcement." I've seen LE do some pretty heinous stuff in LA, and let's not pretend it was all against those that were "impeding." Rigging a presidential election is heinous. Storming through, over, and around cops at the capitol building to overturn an election using incredibly flimsy evidence and one megalomaniac's lying delusions is honestly worse. Is it lost on you that "the government" is doing what they want more now than they ever have? And in this case, the gov't is Donald Trump. He's neutered everything else.

Well your boy is in the WH and asserting control over everything that the powers used to be separated for. No doubt his DOJ is on top of the investigation! ** I'm being facetious, there is no chance it's being investigated because it is only useful as an issue if the vague specter of cheating is still floating around out there. Trump stopped caring on about January 8th, 2021.

Public Land Sale - yes or no

And every square inch is glorious and should remain unspoiled. Recreational opportunities on that land and some family burial sites are literally the only reason I'll ever return to AZ.

L.A. and nationwide ICE raids/protests thread

Now this is a fair point. But you're going to have to prove that it actually affected the outcome. That it happened is not evidence of a stolen election. And since you're you, I have complete faith that there will be no evidence forthcoming.

JFC. So in your world, people protesting peacefully against ICE should all go to prison, while the violent thugs that attacked cops at our nation's capitol while attempting to halt official government certification of an election are all heroes. It doesn't sit right with me. But I am quite comfortable with my definition of America. Yours is fuct. "Righteous event!" Damn man, you make @jonmx seem positively level-headed. That's the stupidest description I've heard of that day yet. And you have the gall to pretend that you wouldn't have been calling for firing squads if Democrats had done the exact same thing. Too funny. Keep raising the vibrations!
  6. More focking lies. What I don't care about is damn near everything you post. You're a hate-filled troll that eagerly fills the forum with falsehoods and dehumanizing speech. You are the embodiment of what is wrong with this country, and are staunchly in the MAGA cohort that gets pointed at as deplorable. Own it.

How much longer do we get to hear whining about rigged elections in 2020? At this point, it's already gone on far longer than any complaining the Democrats did in 2000, for which there is significantly stronger evidence of election interference/malfeasance than anything that has come out of 2020. Shall I begin a campaign to reinstate liberal whining about 2000? That would be every bit as constructive and useful right now as the knobs that continually refuse to let 2020 go.

Public Land Sale - yes or no

Hopefully. If there's one thing we can get the far left tree-hugging dirt worshippers and the far right arsenal-owning militia types on the same page about, it's love and reverence for the outdoors and mother nature. It's the venn intersection of "save the one-eyed mutant radioactive snail!" and "pack up your bandoliers, we gonna kill everything!"

I am glad that your version of common sense is not really very common. Your conclusions are laughable.

Good thing our POTUS is so renowned for his even-keeled and patiently deliberate demeanor.

Public Land Sale - yes or no

This is absurdity. As a guy from the upper midwest that was fortunate enough to live on the west coast/southwest for years, I marveled at how much public land there was and spent a lot of time enjoying it. It's amazing for recreation; but not much else. Affordable housing in this country is an oxymoron until 3D printed homes or some other alternative become more widely produced. Builders won't touch "affordable housing" because they can't turn a big enough profit to make it worthwhile. And if Trump has told us anything about himself, it's that he's profit-driven. This land will all end up in the hands of corporations run by donors.
  12. Oh look, another thread based on lies filled with divisiveness and hate from our resident Russian bot. If I was convinced he was a real person I'd think he was a POS.
  13. He can be quite aggravating, which is his "thing." I tend to agree, which is why I haven't put him on ignore. Though he probably wishes I would.
  14. Well I would consider us i-friends (e-friends? IDFK) albeit with significant differences of opinion prior to you posting this. But you are correct, it won't be received well. I have spoken up to others on the left here that have irked me for one reason or another, and they have mostly taken it in stride. I generally do so in a respectful tone, which may help. It's definitely difficult to maintain respectful interaction when those you're taking issue with are being verbally abusive and/or lack the open-mindedness/intelligence to truly do some self reflection.
  15. I had the same issue but ended up getting in. Thank you, that was an excellent read. It inspired me to re-evaluate some of my positions. There is absolutely an "undercurrent" in this country that is alarming, to put it mildly. Fixing it starts with evaluating our own beliefs and behavior, and attuning ourselves to the hate on my side. Then calling it out when you see it manifest within "allies." Geeks quibble over not calling out those that are acting nihilistically unless they are on "the other team." Time to call out our own "teams." Appreciate what you're attempting to do here, Jerry. I'm on board.
  16. We breathlessly await your conclusions supported with links.

    The Weather Thread

I am not a weather nerd but follow local weather closely as it affects how I commute to work. I live about 90-100 miles from @easilyscan Is it just me, or have the forecasts been less reliable lately?

    California vacation advice

CA is a big place and the things you mention are flung across the state. Coolest place to check out redwoods IMO is Trees of Mystery. The first time I went there was a near-religious experience in awe and wonder. This is at least a 10 hour drive from San Diego if traffic isn't bad. Speaking of SD, Coronado beach is widely considered one of the best in the world, though it's tough to go wrong with any beach in SoCal. If you wanna check out desert dune buggies, hit up Imperial dunes. Amazing area, and there are some really cool non-commercial (i.e. clothing optional) hot springs nestled into that part of the state as well. Don't be hung up on Napa. The central coast has some great wine as well. A road trip up highway 1 is always time well spent, but check out Caltrans for road closures. Hearst castle in San Simeon is amazing. Tahoe is fantastic, so is Yosemite. Jet boat rides and fresh salmon feasts at the Klamath river. Hot springs in the north-central and northeast part of the state. Amazing hiking everywhere. And I haven't even touched on how many things the cities offer. San Diego and San Fran are two of my favorite cities in the US. Avoid LA unless you wanna do the Hollywood touristy stuff, take in a ballgame/amusement park/ concert/ club or a boat to Catalina Island. I say this mostly because of sprawl and traffic, which befouls what would otherwise be paradise. If you tried to do all of this, you'd drive 5,000 miles at least. You can't see the best of what the best state in the country offers in a week or 2. I could easily kill a couple months trekking around Cali.
  21. Your link is paywalled and I am an old(ish) dude that doesn't know how to steal read it. Help?
  22. Further bacon blasphemy.
  23. For starters they could stop shooting people approaching aid trucks, and give the UN more assistance in distribution.
  24. I've not let my imagination go wild on this scenario, but one simple answer is to continue bombing them back into the stone age. His actions in Gaza confirm that he is unmoved by humanitarian concerns or the opinion of the UN. Netanyahu is a corrupt, war-mongering POS. Disclaimer before my statements are turned into propaganda by MAGA: I fully support Israel's right to defend themselves within legal limits and their intention of destroying Hamas and Hezbollah and am not an anti-semite.

    Happy Juneteenth everyone

Uh-oh. Squis dropping Sesame Street links. Few things trigger MAGA so intensely as Sesame Street. Small, colored people treating each other with dignity while also educating really pisses them off. It runs totally counter to their most foundational core values.
