The safest and most secure election in the history of American politics
Fnord replied to Dizkneelande's topic in The Geek Club
You're not wrong, but this is a recent, Trump-inspired case of idiocy. Before Trump, the mantra was always "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line" and the old Roy Rogers (?) gem "I don't belong to an organized party, I'm a Democrat" line (paraphrased). I would say the Democrats are very bit as dysfunctional as they always have been, maybe even moreso, it's just that the Republican Party is so far off the reservation they now make the dems look like professionals doing their jobs well. That is some serious ineptitude. -

Who will be responsible for said attack? Angry Muslims, angry Jews, or angry MAGAmooks? -

Christ. I can, with absolute honesty and conviction, resolutely state that I'd rather be gay than be you. -

Preventing Trump from being on the ballot would go a long way toward shutting down the biggest concerns domestically. At least until the MAGA terrorists start FAFOing. -

Someone has a Gwen Stefani fetish today. When I picture that individual, I see Caleb from Big Mouth, but without any of Caleb's redeeming qualities, like the ability to contribute something truthful or substantive. -

They should be tried and, if convicted, prevented from ever holding elected office again. Would you agree? -

Wait... are you insinuating that the Democrats have a sophisticated national organization? I know you can't be, and yet that's how it reads. -

That'll happen. Keep it up though, the topics are good and my scroll finger is getting buff! -
IIRC, the Donald Sutherland character Mr. X was not real but an amalgamation of multiple people. This was done to condense the exposition he gives to Garrison in the movie. I believe he also took some creative liberties with some of the events depicted in the film. The party that the Kevin Bacon character attended and described was one of them. This is all based on memory of articles read a long time ago, though.

Brilliant film. Ridiculously good (and huge) cast of well known actors that absolutely shined, well told story, and for cinemaphiles, the editing in the film is a masterclass. Highly recommend.

Speemoff- Your Favorite Concert Venues Top Five

Yup same here. First Avenue in MPLS Empty Bottle in Chicago -
That sucks, sorry to hear. Agree about the getting old part. I haven't lost any close friends my age yet, but have gone through divorces, heart surgeries, joint replacements, addiction, cirrhosis, and deceased spouses and kids with them. Getting old ain't for the faint of heart, but it beats the alternative. Theoretically, anyway.

Untrue. You and I agree on much more than you realize. I just refuse to watch the vast majority of videos posted here by you or anyone else, and quit reading your lengthy posts when you get into the weeds about leftist activists, which is frequently. The GC conservatives and I agree on quite a bit. Supporting Donald Trump is a complete non-starter for me, and I get vocal when others deign it within their purview to tell me what I think. So I get pigeon-holed (no offense Squis) as a "radical leftist" by you and others. I'm not complaining, people can believe what they want. Just pointing out that we all make a lot of assumptions about each other that in many cases are not entirely true.

Whoa. SID6 from FBG? If so, it's awesome to see you posting here. Welcome to the fray.

I agree with your points and completely understand that as a Jew this likely hits closer to home for you than it does for most of us. BUT: 1. Let's not pretend that liberals don't use the same playbook in how conservatives get labeled. Especially in the years since Trump's ascendance. Hell, we're both guilty of it. 2. That there ARE some truly hateful lefties spreading some really malignant rhetoric toward Israel and Judaism.

I've noticed a few posts in this thread along these lines. I used to think there was some validity to the argument. Then Gabby Giffords got shot. Along with 18 other people. In a parking lot. In Arizona. Where open carry has been legal for decades. If you can mow down 19 people in an open parking lot in Tuscon, AZ without a peep from a 'good guy with a gun' it ain't happening anywhere else. Most of the big tough dudes that fetishize firearms are cowards compensating for their own shortcomings. They won't engage an active shooter on their own. And to be clear, I'm not advocating for or against changing gun laws, just pointing out that this line of thinking has shown to not be rooted in reality.

Wow. Go help get out the vote against... that.

In many ways we already have. We will literally have to pry it from their cold dead hands.

Well Gen X is still waiting for their turn, so you'll be long dead before the millennials or zoomers have any.

Wow. No way anyone alive is worse than the boomers. Look around you. Every complaint you have started with them. My parents, both boomers, fully admit it. The ME generation has canceled the subsequent ones.
