But you can't keep the state-level politics out of local politics, and plenty of states are gerrymandered to hell. Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Maryland are prime examples. I think Illinois is also. If you have a roughly 50/50 D/R split in your population but one of the parties controls 75% or more of the state legislature, local politics won't prevail. Jon, when you tone yourself down, you have valid points. I agree with much of the above. So why do you frequently go from statements like the above to "liberals are all brownshirts" and blame them for all of society's ills in a split second?

This isn't even on Trump, IMO. This is the result of decades of pernicious broadcasting practices by right wing media. Rush and Roger started with a pebble, and rolled it down the mountain. Now it's an epic avalanche ready to bury us all. It was this right wing fervor, a never-ending loop of repeating lies, half-truths and slanted opinion as truth, over and over and over. Trump is just an incredibly talented opportunist who was in the right place at the right time.
