As for your quotes: I completely agree with Maher. Enforced political correctness is censorship. So the government should have no part of it. Private companies, organizations, and institutions however, can and should enforce it to promote diversity, sensitivity, and morale. I made a post upthread or in a different thread about how ridiculous it is that people are so easily offended, and how they treat it as a direct assault, instead of it just being part of a free society. No one has the right to remain unoffended. I reject the Chesterton quote for being far too broad. Sure, he's right about tolerating certain things, like a backsliding of democratic ideals, violence, crime, the rise of authoritarianism, etc. But he's way off when it comes to human interaction and behavior. I would reframe it as "tolerance is the virtue of men who understand that they don't understand everything." I can't get into the head space of a transsexual, or a devout Muslim, or a repressive dictator. Their thought processes don't make sense to me. I don't bother to get twisted up over it. I reserve judgment until one's actions have a direct negative impact on innocent lives. It doesn't HAVE to be a certain type of person, it should be open to all types, weirdos included. I've taken my kids to story hours at the library when they were younger. It was never hosted by anyone other than a regular librarian, but if it was a drag queen I wouldn't have left just because of that.

How about this? I would never take my kid to an evangelical tent-style revival meeting replete with people screaming "hallelujah, thank you Jesus, save me Jesus, etc." with their hands in the air and tears streaming down their faces as the preacher froths at the mouth while loudly quoting scripture and condemning LGBTQ people to hell. Imagine nirvana for @weepaws, if that helps. I would rather have a dude in makeup and dress read Dr. Suess to them. You probably feel differently. Either way, we should both be able to do either of those things with our kids if we choose. Do you still disagree, assuming of course that the drag queen wasn't a felon or on a sex offender registry?
