Geeks who had kids later in life

My wife is a year younger than me and we were over 30 when we got married after she finished her doctorate. We had kids when I was 35 and 40. She used to complain regularly about the "high school bltches" she had to talk to at preschool all being stay at home moms with wealthy older husbands that dumped their kids off so they could go to the gym for a couple hours while she was running her own business. I just appreciated the scenery when it was my turn to drop them off. @EternalShinyAndChrome to some extent I agree having kids is a young person's game. We used to make fun of the 23 year olds hauling three kids around and how dumb that was. Then you get older and realize that there are definitely advantages to that. The biggest being energy. I never really wanted kids but my wife "inspired" me by wanting to bone all the time, so I went with it. I'm not a kid person and never have been. I don't like kid stuff: toys, entertainment, constant need for attention. I don't enjoy being around lots of kids. I was an only child in a poor household so I was pretty selfish. My two kids drive me batshit crazy daily. They are the best damn things that ever happened to me.
  2. I have no doubt. But "MINNESOTA NICE!" Turns out the nice part is that instead of open aggression, we greatly prefer passive aggression and sarcasm.

Biden world braces for book storm

For such a smart guy, you sure have trouble with typing out coherent posts. What I'm saying is that I'll believe Hyundai and whatever other companies are going to make billions in investments to manufacture more parts and cars in the US when I see the factories come online and start employing thousands of Americans. Not a moment before. I suspect these promises are just ways for companies to stall until Trump is no longer POTUS. Remember the Foxconn debacle?
  6. If you are saying he was added purposefully by someone within the Trump admin to expose what was going on, I have had the same thought. Saying Goldberg is a hero is hyperbolic, but I don't think he did anything wrong.
  7. Absolutely. Some of it may be learned or even hereditary. As my father loves to say "just tell a {last name redacted} they can't do something, and we'll say 'fuk you, watch me!'" It would seem as though I come from a lineage of folks that don't like being told what to do or think. I once did a presentation in class excoriating religion and blaming most of the world's problems on it as a HS student in a small town in rural MN. Since I was a teen, I lacked the self awareness to realize how much I probably offended many of my classmates and teachers, or how ignorant and simplistic my conclusions were.

    Morgan Wallen Exits SNL

Sounds like he had been walking off the same way all week during rehearsals. Speculation was that it was a joke. By all accounts there was not animosity between Wallen and the cast. Verdict: less than a nothingburger. Also, who the hell cares?

Biden world braces for book storm

American automakers import massive amounts of parts that are foreign-made. Tariffs will not only raise the price on foreign cars, but domestic as well. By the time the factories and other investments these companies have promised to initiate in the US come to fruition, Trump will be out of office and those companies may or may not actually go through with their pledges. Unless Trump and his cohort figure out how to get that holy grail third term, of course. In which case we will have much bigger problems than not being able to afford a new car.
  11. You and I agreeing is a great example to everyone that we all agree on a lot more than we disagree on. Apparently GC folks just enjoy arguing about politics, which is fine. I try to always keep that in mind and not vilify those that disagree with me unless they are also unrepentant a-holes that make incorrect assumptions about me and get personally ugly. Appreciate that you and I have been able to overcome that.
  12. This has not been explained AFAIK. Greenland is rich in untapped mineral deposits. No way Trump only cares about it strategically. There is money to be made. That's the only reason.
  13. Good question. If it was after hours in a faith-based club, I have no problem with it. It has to be voluntary. During Covid, we sent our daughter to a Catholic preschool because her regular school shut down completely. I am not anti-religion; it just isn't for me. When my daughter started asking questions about Jesus and Christianity we tried to answer her in a way that did not dissuade her from pursuing what is right for her in the future. We didn't bash the beliefs and were clear about how many people embrace and appreciate their faith. I had it shoved down my throat as a kid by overzealous evangelical grandparents that saw evil in everything; my grandmother threw away my He-Man toys during the 80s satanic panic because they promoted witchcraft. All she accomplished was making me interested in figuring out what the big deal was. By the time I was in high school I was reading books by Aleister Crowley and Anton LaVey and celebrating the music of Ozzy, Sabbath, and Alice Cooper. I do not want to demonize anything to the point where my kids are seeking it out like I did. Completely agree with your last sentence.
  14. You're virtue signaling as well. Like most issues, those surrounding transsexuals are nuanced. No, we don't want biological men in women's sports. No, we don't want sex offenders sharing bathrooms with our kids. We don't want teachers or doctors withholding information about our kids. But we also don't want them treated like animals and scapegoated. IDGAF if some parents are ok with surgery or hormones for their kids, it's their choice. Also don't care about "tranny story hour" as long as the kids and parents consent to participate. This NPC shlt only serves division.

Soda Pop Wars: MAGA vs MAHA

MaxO will definitely read that study and change his mind.
  16. More bullshit. I've challenged several people to find a SINGLE post in which someone states support for men in women's sports and sure enough, nobody (not you) has. The point of scoffing at the threads is that Maxipad, among others, spams the hell out of the forum with them so they can be bigoted asses about it. They act as though this is the biggest crisis we've ever faced, which is beyond absurd. If you're looking for a strawman, you constructed one of your own.
  17. Disappointed that you've now become part of the idiot rabble that claims to know what I'm thinking. Like them, you're way off. If you'd like to have a discussion I'm game but not if you're gonna pull this bullshit. I could turn it around and say something about you pretending not to cheer on heinous things MAGA does, but it's probably not worth the time. Keep ringing your bell.

This thread is about music not your twisted fetishes. Can you STFU about trannies for once? Take a thread off, FFS. What do you listen to that you wanna share?

Nah, I was just being an ass. Your shtick has gotten old for me. You're only a step down from jonmx and Maxipad overflow... not a big one though.

Old school punk/metal head buddy of mine in Austin, TX turned me onto this bunch of rowdy hooligans. Total party band, with anthemic garage/punk sound Thanks, @HellToupee for the embedding tip!
  23. You aren't wrong. Everyone here is partisan to some degree and prone to magnifying the mistakes of the other team but downplaying those of their team. But given that Trump is POTUS and the GOP has control of gov't, that's what we're concentrating on. I hold Democrats and Biden COMPLETELY responsible for lying to us about his decaying mental acuity and foisting Kamala Harris on us. Everything you said can be completely turned back on you in that you consistently defend this admin. We should (and most do) want everyone held accountable.
