    Court Ruling Against the AP

Well then that's a pretty huge lack of consistency on your part. Nobody, including the AP, is refusing to call it Ft. Bragg or Mt. McKinley. These are things that have been renamed properly because they belong to America. Now we can, and have, criticize these choices. The US doesn't own the Gulf of Mexico. Therefore, nobody, including POTUS, or the Mexican gov't for that matter, can rename it without the consent of all parties involved. This is not a difficult concept.

    Court Ruling Against the AP

You don't understand the difference between renaming something that belongs to you vs. something that does not? You're FOS. By this logic, I can rename your child. You are not this dumb, although you do appear to be this partisan. And no, you are not being consistent.

    Court Ruling Against the AP

Hold on. These are not equal. In the instance of Ukraine, the sovereign Ukrainian government decided to change the spelling of one of their own cities. In the case of Gulf of Mexico, the government of the US did no such thing. POTUS did. And he renamed a body of water that multiple nations have maritime control over. The lack of full sovereign right to the Gulf by either Mexico or the US was codified in a 1976 agreement between the two nations. If he wanted to rename a lake that was entirely within the US, he could. He renamed Denali to Mt. McKinley, and the AP has called it Mt. McKinley.
  5. 1. I think it's a pretty serious stretch to label unelected billionaire as dehumanizing. Honestly, I mostly put that in there as a jab at you. Petty, I know. But I've read the posts in this place over the years, and pretty much everyone here has been called much worse. I have not seen anyone other than you raise objections to that phrasing. I should be so lucky as to be called an unelected billionaire. 2. Not buying your logic here. I do not feel as though this is even a discussion. Elon may have been center left at one point, but he definitely isn't now. His ties to AfD and the Afrikaners completely destroy this possibility. 3. I'm glad that gave you pause. I have seen you and others post things like "do you think Elon is going to steal your SS#?" Obviously not. What he has done is fire IG's that are directly investigating him/his companies for several different infractions. Said companies have secured billions in government contracts. This is textbook COI. I have yet to see any of our resident righties provide a defense of this. 4. There is plenty of circumstantial evidence pointing to Musk having a predilection toward aligning with groups that have alleged ties with neo nazis and similar ideologies. I will continue to point this out, without resorting to absolutes like "Musk is a fascist nazi pig." My aversion to dehumanizing terms does not extend to public figures. I don't consider my comments about Musk to be any different than criticizing Biden, Trump, or any other public/political figure. I do not believe Musk to be aligned with nazis. But it's something to watch. 5. I would be willing to place large sums of money on there being a standoff between Trump and the judicial system, if not SCOTUS, regarding what is/isn't constitutional. They are pushing the unitary executive theory hard, for instance. I would be shocked if at some point Trump didn't thumb his nose at orders from a judge. The groundwork has already been laid. What then? I personally find the unitary executive theory to be absurd and blatantly unconstitutional, and think that nobody with a shred of common sense would disagree with me. But the skids have been greased for this as well. If that is supported by SCOTUS, all bets are off, nice knowin ya, the US as we know it is done. The left has never pushed that nonsense, only the right. This admin wants it in front of SCOTUS. If that's just TDS sky screaming to you, so be it. 6. NYT Trump WH Archives Direct Trump quote: James Comer That one is funny since Musk does not even hold a "policy-making position." Nutshell Another direct Trump quote: Is DOGE answerable to American voters? I sure have not seen any evidence of that being the case. But he is roundly cheered by MAGA, despite being exactly what Trump claimed he did not want.

What's The First Historic Thing You Remember Watching?

Reagan shooting. I was pretty young and at my babysitter's house. That place was boring AF, and I was happy to just be able to watch tv all day. Challenger explosion meant more cuz I was older. One of the teachers came in from the lounge, interrupting my teacher in the middle of a lesson, and yelled about the Challenger exploding. We watched the news in the classroom. I must've seen that thing blow up 100+ times that day. 4th grade.
  8. Probably from an IV. He's old and has dry skin. Prolly just getting him hydrated and pumped full of whatever witchy-water drug concoction he normally gargles to maintain a facsimile of coherence.
  9. While it's super fun to romanticize about the choir singing a song to Trump in protest, that's not what happened. He chose the song, and reportedly is a big Les Mis fan. As always with dear leader, the irony went unnoticed.
  10. I don't know that I've ever agreed with you this whole-heartedly. Though I have zero clue why you posted it.

Chances Earth are destroyed now up to 3.1%

I read earlier today that they had completely ruled out the possibility of hitting earth. Moon wasn't mentioned, though.

    'A Resistance is Forming'

Some Forest Service personnel that got axed my Mump hanged a 30'x50' American flag upside down at the top of El Capitan in Yosemite. As the slapdash firings continue, there will be a lot more of this, I'm sure. I know people that were calling themselves the resistance on social media the day after Trump won.

    dying your facial hair

I could probably benefit from this, but I see too many people daily that would notice. It feels like I'm further ahead just owning the white (not gray, went straight from black to white) in my beard than if I dyed it and acknowledged that it bothered me. Because honestly, it does not bother me that much. I might consider doing it for a trip I'm taking later this year. How long does it last?

    Why so many aliases?

I am fully aware of that. I have him on ignore, but @thegeneral keeps quoting his drivel, so when I saw he lied about me again, I responded. I knew the only thing he would come back with is some preschool patter about effeminate men, or somesuch. Oh look, I was right.

    Why so many aliases?

Cry louder, insecure, swastika-loving, beta bltch. What are you, 5? Obsessed with tattletales? Go back to preschool where someone might be dumb enough to buy your bullshit. The rest of us DGAF.
  17. Well let's not forget the thing the GOP cares almost as much about as tax cuts: deregulation. That is where Musk will make his money. That and being in bed with POTUS is probably going to be very good for his bottom lines. You're right, this all has to play out. Like I said, this is my opinion, and my dislike of Trump is no secret. I absolutely admit that I default to not trusting anything he does or says. I hope I'm wrong because I want us to be a successful nation. I would argue that you suffer from similar biases, though: your dislike for libs and their policies make you default into automatically thinking that what Trump is doing is correct, lawful, and for the better good. It will be harder for you to see any malfeasance. That's why we should be respectfully keeping each other honest.
  18. I know you don't; at least you're honest about it. Theoretically, I don't care, either. The issue I have does not come from the identification of waste and fraud, but what occurs afterwards, how it was identified, and what the motives are. If an independent auditing company was hired in a bipartisan effort to do this, people would love it. What appears to be happening, however, is a show is being staged that makes a big deal over very little. How many announcements has Elon/DOGE made about the contracts and programs he's cutting that have turned out to be false? The things being targeted have little real effect on the national budget. They are being done by men with huge conflicts of interest whose primary aim is to cut enough to justify a gigantic tax cut for the richest among us, negating whatever "savings" are being identified. The goal is not to help America flourish. The goal is to get richer and more powerful, IMO. I assume you will disagree, and that's fine. I'm just trying to explain my perspective. I applaud this initiative if I turn out to be wrong, and I will admit as much if proven to be.

Kash Patel will be confirmed today!

Musk and Trump don't want to control everything? Elon is libertarian? The basis of libertarianism is personal freedom for all, and respect of other's personal sovereignty. Freedom of speech is paramount. Musk is not remotely close to that. He willingly stifles free speech, and could not care less about the personal freedom of others. He's also "against" federal subsidies, unless, of course, they are going into his pockets. And you lick the shine off his boots every day. Why don't you enlighten me and give me the names of the elitist boots I'm licking, and I can show you how wrong you are, again? Not that you will believe me or comprehend it. You're too far gone to be able to think outside of the tired stereotypes you willingly embrace and repeat.
  20. I DGAF about "unelected bureaucrats." I'm pointing out one of the larger hypocrisies currently on display, something that Trump had as a cornerstone of his campaign. Getting rid of them so they wouldn't stymie his admin. Now he conveniently renames an existing department and sets an unelected billionaire loose on the entire government. Of course, said billionaire is also his single largest donor and has decided he wants to be the technocratic poster boy for worldwide right wing politics. Sorry man, your poo-pooing of the COI angle is laughable, and I do not believe you would be reacting similarly were Kamala Harris setting George Soros loose in the same manner. That's a bad comparison, mostly because there literally is nobody on the left remotely close to Elon Musk's position with MAGA. Also, stop with your serious discussion jabs. I didn't call Musk a neo-nazi. YOU mentioned that term. I said something like "alleged nazi sympathizer." It's right there- alleged. I'm usually pretty careful with my words, so I'm not going to call someone a neo-nazi unless I know they are, or at least have a firm belief backed up by evidence. I don't know if he is or not. But there is definitely evidence that could lead one to that belief, no matter how much you disregard it. I like you Jerry, and appreciate our conversations. You're a smart dude. But that doesn't mean you're right or that you've somehow elevated yourself above partisan assumptions. I have yet to see compelling justification from conservatives on why unelected bureaucrats were public enemy #1 in November, but now they're A-OK. Beloved, even. Because that is impossible without showing immense hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty.

    Petition to Deport Ilhan Omar

And Wolves, Wild, Vikings, Gophers... At least I remember the WS championships in 87 and 91. People younger than me have never seen any of these teams play in a championship game/series. Hopefully we are due for a Boston-like run soon.
  22. That's almost certainly the only thing that is.

    Think Biden might have won?

Dems would do practically anything to get a candidate of Kerry's caliber back onto the national stage. What a fustercluck that party is.

Agreed. Damn glad I don't live in her district. But MN is still great when the cold isn't freezing one's teets off. Playoff time is pretty sucky too.
