A great script can produce a bad movie. A bad script will almost certainly not produce a good film. A good director can take a meh script and make the movie good, same with acting. So I'd say 45% script, 30% acting, 25% directing.
-
Well, I'm not Roger Ebert or a USC film school grad, and you called on me, so piss off. The answer is, there isn't one, IMO. I think it's silly to just assign a % to what each is worth. But because you're needy, hereyago: 98% script, 1% acting, .5% directing, .5% studio execs. There's your secret formula.

It depends on a lot of factors. A really great acting performance can turn a meh movie into a must-watch. Whiplash comes to mind. The movie was just ok but Miles Teller and JK Simmons were so fantastic it's practically a must-see. Then you have films with an amazing script, but they go off the rails due to bad direction or acting or studio meddling. Since I don't read scripts, I can't really speak to this, but I've heard that the Kenneth Branagh version of Frankenstein was one of those. I saw the movie but can't remember anything about it, so it clearly wasn't real memorable. The script by Frank Darabont, who is a great and prolific writer, is widely hailed as being fantastic. Then you have some great movies with meh scripts that are saved by direction or acting or both. Armageddon is a great example. The premise is completely absurd, Aerosmith and the shlocky romance between Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler are awful (that fockin animal cracker scene might be the most abysmal thing I've ever watched), but damn if it isn't a fun watch. Any of Bruce Willis, Steve Buscemi, and Billy Bob Thornton alone are usually enough to salvage a movie, so having all three saves the film from stupid scripting and Michael Bay's unending need to make a cut every 1.6 seconds.

Based on the letter Paul shared, the distinguished Senator from KY may need to double check his math. 212 vessels indterdicted: 41 had no drugs, =19.3% Of those 41, 24 had "committed no criminal offense." 24 of 212 = 11.3% of interdictments wherein the boats were completely clear of wrongdoing. So we are potentially killing people that not only aren't drug mules, but have committed no crimes whatsoever. That's stone cold murder. Trump's America. It's what HT voted for. -

Gotcha. Good thing Alina Habba is going to be shown the door, then. For the sake of consistency. -
Check the date on that. RFK had that put on the website. Yaknow, the former heroin addict in charge of American's health that also runs a law firm that profits from suing vaccine makers. But other than that I'm sure the science is sound.

The respect is mutual, as is the disdain for your boneheaded political opinions. My point in responding to @Frozenbeernuts was to show that there doesn't need to be a covert agenda to acknowledge the reality of climate change and seawater levels raising, not to determine cause. DOD, USACE, and the Naval Institute are reacting to perceived future threats that they accept to be true, regardless of the political messaging coming from whichever admin happens to be in control. If anything, these links support your view that we should be less concerned with cause and more concerned with mitigation. This also serves as a response to frozenbeerbrains top of page response to me, so I don't have to quote him and fock up the day of anyone that rightly has him on ignore. -

You brought up "funding by people with agendas." I pointed out, for the thousandth time, that you're an ignorant simp, and now you dig up the goal posts, toss them in the river, and go home with your ball. Byeeeee! Can you log off for the day now? -

Since I'm not MAGA and don't keep up on the day to day minutiae, please help me out. Are we disqualifying judges based on their names now? -
You probably follow the local scene more closely than I do, since I'm a bit more "outstate." I don't know if you're right or wrong or somewhere in between. I cannot argue the facts: MN has a massive fraud problem that the DFL ignored (at best) and the Dems are on the hook for the disappearance of that surplus. MN is considered a "liberal" state, but in reality it's probably closer to 48-53% Dem vs. 47%-52% Rep. Most non-metro counties are fairly deep red, including in my part of the state. There are enough folks that understand what's going on to make it a rough uphill climb for the next Dem Governor nominee, especially if they have any connection with Walz. I will say that I won't vote for Walz again, but I would prefer to do that than vote for anyone that is openly MAGA. We don't need to rehash why, it's been done a million times. A non-MAGA Republican pushing rational positions would be welcome.

I'm sorry, but "Goyim Defense League" is a ridiculous name, even for dipshit racist LARPers. It's like they stole it from a dystopian satire written by someone intelligent. -

Maybe. I'm sure money and politics play their part, like in anything else. I think there's just more "noise" generally nowadays, and those with firm opinions running contrary to accepted science have larger bullhorns able to reach those with similar thoughts or questions. IMO climate change is hastened by human activity, but not exclusively due to it. The main thrust of the "humans have nothing to do with it" opinions probably came from big oil, at least initially. Exxon and similar corporations have known about this longer than most climate scientists, and it's always been in their best interest to squash the idea that their products are even partially to blame. -

While I agree with this, the alarming thing about MAGA in my observation is that many of them take this rationale and sprint to the opposite end of the spectrum with it. It quickly goes from "scientists aren't always right" to "scientists don't know anymore than any of us, they're FOS and can't be trusted!" Then, of course, those prone to this line of thought turn to folks that cannot be trusted AT ALL, with ANYTHING, and declare their trust in them. People just believe what they wanna believe in many cases, facts and evidence be damned. -

You'll notice the carefully hedged language being used here. Lots of "ifs" and "woulds" as opposed to "did's" and "are's" This is how well-measured, balanced responses are worded. Then compare it to everything DJT says, which is typically worded in untrue absolutes, with no reference or deference to investigation, enforcement, or legality. The Don is unfit. I look forward to the impeachment proceedings. -
You thinking that's brilliant is just another example of your stupidity.

🇺🇸Father Trump Talk-🚨The Official Thread of MAGA🚨 Quiet, piggy!
Fnord replied to HellToupee's topic in The Geek Club
Haven't I schooled your ass on this already, liar? I do not work in HR. I am a HIRING MANAGER for my department. I do not participate directly in patient care, but support literally every area that does. I'm not looking for recognition; it's you dipshits that keep bringing this up, thoroughly exposing yourselves as ignorant partisans. I'm just correcting the record. Your inability to register facts is not my problem. However, you making up lies about me does kinda rub me the wrong way. I am now feeling vindicated for putting you on ignore before your suspension and will happily return you to that status. Have a great holiday season, good luck finding your humanity.
